In this video, I'll be sharing my thoughts and experience of listening to "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen. As a fan of the band, I've heard this song many times before, but every time I listen to it, I'm still blown away by its sheer brilliance and innovation.
During the video, I'll be discussing the song's historical and cultural significance, breaking down its structure and exploring its intricate harmonies, soaring vocals, and epic guitar riffs. I'll also be sharing my personal thoughts and feelings about the song, touching on themes of love, loss, and redemption that are woven throughout its lyrics.
Additionally, I'll be reacting to other Queen classics, such as "Another One Bites the Dust" and revisiting their legendary performance at Live Aid, which is widely regarded as one of the greatest live performances in rock history.
So join me as we delve into the world of Queen, exploring their incredible music and the impact they've had on the music industry as a whole. Whether you're a lifelong fan or just discovering their music for the first time, this video is sure to be an exciting and insightful journey.

Your reaction was precious. My favorite Queen song is an older one _Killer Queen._ The song has a clever lyric and great music with accents peppered through it. The solo guitarist, Brian May, had been working on his doctorate in Astrophysics when he joined the band. After Freddy Mercury passed away the band went on hiatus. During that time he decided to finish his doctoral thesis, a difficult analysis of dust in interstellar space, and in 2007, at the age of 60, became Dr. Brian May. This year he was knighted by King Charles, and is now fully titled as Sir Doctor Brian Harold May. _I am not worthy!_ If you haven't already considered Guns n' Roses, then try _Welcome to the Jungle._ I still think a departure from classic rock might be in order for a change. You might enjoy Billy Joel's _Piano Man_ or Harry Chapin's _Taxi._

When Bohemian Rhapsody came out, I first heard it on a local radio station. I was totally blown away as nothing had ever sounded like that! Then I had to wait to find out what group this was as the station played a few songs in a row then said what they played. Very shortly after that and a visit to a record store, I bought A Night At The Opera.

Great video as always Diane! FYI Canadian music icon Gordon Lightfoot passed away yesterday. He was about as quintessentially Canadian as maple syrup and ice hockey. Saw them at the Santa Monic Civic on this Tour in 1976. It seated 2500 people and they only played three nights. Saw them 10th row first night and 11th row last night but Freddy had a little runway that went to the 10th row so we were front row and Freddy would lean out over us and drip his sweat on us. BEST CONCERT EVER!!! They never played anything this small in L.A. again. Sooo blessed! Saw Bowie in '73 and it was an incredible show but nothing like Queen. Check out their first four albums, like Zep, they are the greatest! Blessings

Not all American school choirs are "Glee" style. Even my tiny school (waaay back in the 80s) had both a pop style "swing choir" and the more formal style you described where diction was very important and a dropped consonant was indeed frowned upon 🙂

Many bands have come and gone. But Queen? Queen will be forever. I don't think they had any idea that they would create a musical legacy that would transcend generations. No auto-tune. No gimmicks. Just four very talented people making beautiful music. My favorites will always be "Somebody to love" & "Princes of the Universe" Another band worth giving a listen to: The Animals. Eric Burdon has an awesome voice. "House of the rising sun" & "Don't let me be misunderstood"

This song, written by Mercury, stands out both in composition and arrangement. It's quite an achievement to create a rock song that's only 5 or so minutes long with about ten different sections that hangs together so well. For future rock tune vids, I'd lean to Irish bands, of which there are many good ones for a country that size. I'll recommend a song from before you were born, The Man Who Built America, by Horslips, which was heavily played by station WXRT radio in Chicago when it came out. Of course there are a few more widely known bands from Ireland. I won't name Them but no doubt many are familiar to U too.

This was of course a hit at the time it was released, but over the years its stature has grown and it is easily one of the most beloved songs of the rock era. The producer, Roy Thomas Baker, was known for using overdubs of both instruments and voice, and the vocal overdubs were particularly prominent on Bohemian Rhapsody, at times stretching the capabilities of the 24-track tape technology of the time. The technique involved recording multiple takes and then layering them on top of each other. This layering created the choir illusion on some parts of the vocals and the otherworldly sound of Brian May's guitar. Naturally all these takes required weeks to accomplish and then mix together. In all, the song required over 180 overdubs. The song was intended as a parody of bombastic opera music, but over the years it has become regarded as art in its own right. Being someone who appreciates guitar, I have to note Brian May's "Red Special" guitar. He and his father designed and built the guitar when Brian was a teenager. Since May could not afford a Gibson or Fender, he made his own guitar, using wood salvaged from a fireplace mantle and an old table. By the way, in addition to being a guitarist, Dr. May is also an astrophysicist.

American choirs are typically nothing like Glee. At least not in my part of the South. Generally agree. Our concert choirs wore choir robes, stood with arms at out sides and we sang mostly classical or Latin liturgical pieces (oddly in a secular public high school 🤷‍♂️). We did have "show choirs" that sang different things with choreography (the men's show choir sang mainly comedy songs like the 12 days after Christmas)

Queen Bohemian Rhapsody Good Choice. Another good Queen song to listen to is Crazy little thing called Love. First thing I think of is Wayne's World Every time I hear this song. I took choir in middle school 7th through 9th grade. The majority of us have sang this song playing on the radio in the car. One of the most sung songs in karaoke. The Rock Guitar Solo legendary. I like the theatre acting effect, singing, and air guitar you added to the video you rock. Chewie looks partied out like he needs some sleep stat. Thanks for making the world a better place one rock video at a time. A recommended Band to Review is Journey. Happy Rock N Roll Wonderfully Weird Wednesday Party On. 🎸🎤🎵

Lovely video Diane! An amazing song! Great movie too! So many great classics by Queen. Love these music video reactions! Maybe some more 80's Hair Bands, like: Poison, Motley Crue, Iron Maiden, Van Halen, Def Leppard, Judas Priest, and lots of others!

Hi Diane both Brian May and Roger Taylor were advisors on the making of the film Bohemian Rhapsody. The guitar that Brian plays was made by his dad and himself, example, the neck was made from an old mantel and the unit was wired up like other guitar at the time. The guitar is still in working order and Brian still uses it today. When Brian started with Queen he was studying Astrophysics and had to put that on hold. Since the band was not as active as in the early years he completed his degree, CBE in 2005, Doctor of Philosophy 2022, OBE 2023, Knight bachelor 2023.

Thank you so much for taking me back to when the album was released ahead of the single. Rain and the sounds of rocks rolling in a river in flood. And Bohemian Rhapsody being immediately followed by Good Save the Queen (no lyrics).

Always a good choice Diane. It looks like you were really getting into the conducting however, I had no idea what you were trying to say. I’m just glad you got a chance to say it.

Loving this series, Diane! Gotta keep it up! So, if you're doing 70's music that you've never heard before, then you need to check out Three Dog Night "Road to Shamballah". My favorite song EVAR.

I remember the song Road to Shamballah from when it was featured in an episode of Criminal Minds. I never knew it was from Three Dog Night. Do you know the meaning of the band's name, Three Dog Night? It's of Aboriginal/ Native Alaskan origins. If it was really cold at night you'd have your dogs sleeping with you for warmth...the more dogs you had for warmth, the colder the night was, so a three dog night was pretty chilly. Just some trivia I thought I'd share with you. 😊😊👋 Greetings from eastern North Carolina!
