Hello Adam, Really enjoying the Lister SL1 Videos. I like yours as there are so many videos on You Tube with people repairing and restoring these old engines as if they are Vintage Aston Martins and not the industrial work horses they really are. I dont like visiting shows to see a engine brightly painted ticking over and doing nothing. These things were built to work and be repaired and serviced on the go. Came through Swaffam yesterday and said to the missus we will have to do this on auction day and maybe find some bargains. I dont think I have ever worked on an SL 1, but have on many donkey engines and ones in dumper trucks. I remember being a lad and being called to Ipswich docks as one on a lorry wouldn't start. The driver had flooded it with easy start since we rebuilt it and of course the bore and rings were done. These things worked the pump on bulk lorries back in the day and revved their guts away lifting the tipper trailer. The driver after it wouldn't start shouted a 4 letter word beginning with C and threw the starting handle into the docks giving me the task of getting another. Yours looks brilliant with very little obvious signs of wear. It would be great if the dynamo is still OK.

Yes I'm not big into the fully painted up engines. Unless they really need like my old Ruston last year. She was in old Red oxide so has to be done really. Yeah I hope the generator side of this works aswell. I have plans for this and how to display it. Keep watching. So many more updates on this to come. Thanks for watching.

Not a restoration , Original is what you say. We use the term " working clothes " We preserved our 1929 Fowler Steam roller to factory condition in 2012 Which was Maroon colour. But now we are looking at putting its working clothes back on which is a dark green.. Great vid by the way.
@NorfolkMancave2 жыл бұрын
ow that will be nice when it's done my friend. yeah if there is some original paint and decals left on an engine I like to keep it as it only has that look once.

Well done, the engine came up really well. There is something very satisfying watching how clean you got it. Is that red/white diesel you're using? Thanks for sharing.
@NorfolkMancave2 жыл бұрын

See you use diesel to clean - I’ve always used petrol but maybe diesel is better ?
@NorfolkMancave2 жыл бұрын
I use diesel because its less flammable and I get on with it really well.
