Performances such as these bring to mind Neuhaus' description of Richter as "an eagle who from his great height can see as far as the horizon and yet single out the tiniest detail of the landscape." Insurmountable!

Richter’s left hand is so strong; not the poor relative that it is with many; Liszt would have loved that!

The Liszt sonata and the Beethoven Hammerklavier are perfect vehicles for Richter’s kaleidoscopic breadth.

@@marksmith3947 I know, but unfortunately the plague of tasteless individuals in the classical music world who listen to and deify Beethoven as if he were a great composer is truly boundless Of course I am joking, but still I do not understand how you can tolerate such disorganic abominations without the slightest sense of structure and operatic integration which are beyond essential in music. In my mind it should be quite trivial to listen to a Mozart piece, just to name one, and then not even have the strength left to move on to something written by Beethoven without getting pissed off realizing all that is missing from the proper construction of a great composition. There are some great flashes of intuition here and there, but ultimately a complete lack of vision and unification; and that is not music, because it is not com-position
