🕣 I tend not to pre order except a couple of authors, but this year have delved into the special edition rabbit hole. Talk about an expensive hobby. 😂

I went to check when this was posted and saw the line in the description about the books you are "AGGRESSIVELY not preordering" and it instantly made my evening better, before I even started watching. Thank you so much, Lianne!

My goal going forward is to use my library as much as I can. That way unless I have a book club book or REALLY want to read a book that has a long wait list I don’t end up buying a book I end up not liking

What a long week…oh thank GOODNESS, instant fix, Lianne has a new video up and LOOK, she can make me feel better about my book buying addiction, bonus points! Seriously, your videos make me laugh Every. Single. Time. You might as well change your channel name to Sarcastic Scottish Sunshine at this point (oh, add something about books, I suppose) 💕

Great to see you back in another video. Your point 2 about buying multiple books from an author before trying them…yep that’s me too 🫢 actually thinking about it all three points are just like me too…oh my word. I will admit I have been super picky with my preorders so far and I don’t have too many. Far less than I thought

My most-anticipated for Fall are Mammoths at the Gates and PJ & the Chalice of the Gods (both out now) and the new Murderbot (have to wait until November dangit). But I did also pre-order Bookshops and Bonedust. I hope we both enjoy it! 🕰

🕣 My most anticipated release had been Silverborn but uh, yeah, we're all going to have to wait a bit longer for that one. I don't have nearly as many books as you yet, since I'm still living in a fairly small apartment but I truly sympathise with the trends you noticed with unread books. I've always used my ereader to buy books that were super hyped but I was unsure about and I have definitely had some "I'm so glad now that this is not taking up physical space on my shelves" moments.

🕰️ Okay, I’ve read ARCs of some of these! First, I ADORED The September House. The book book is not at all about the couple trying to rebuild their marriage in a new house. I can’t say much more without spoiling something, but I can’t wait to see what you thought! The Stranger Upstairs, on the other hand, I DNF’d after forcing my way through to chapter 11, and then finally admitting, “Okay, I hate this.” And Midnight is the Darkest Hour fell somewhere in between. I’ve not read In My Dreams I Hold a Knife, but I have read The Last Housewife and it is NOTHING like Midnight is the Darkest Hour, either in tone, subject matter, or character voice. I really admire Ashley Winstead for being able to do that. However, I think for me that means she may be a book-by-book author, bc while TLH was INTENSE, dark, and had a lot to say about misogyny, MITDH felt more like a first or second draft that had been rushed. Some parts were addicting and I loved the themes. But some parts just felt out of place and I was disappointed with how little it actually was about the paranormal aspect. So there are some views from a stranger on the Internet, if that helps at all. 😂

🕚 I'm not big on preordering, except with a couple comic series and two or three authors, but I'm always interested to hear what's coming out soon! I definitely can relate to the feeling of having to stop yourself from preordering something before hearing reviews--that's how I feel about a lot of things honestly. So many synopses sound amazing, but the books themselves aren't always as good as I'd hoped...

I just read "The September House" and I can tell you that your worry about it is only partially warranted. It's really hard to tell what is going on there without spoilers but I think you might be surprised by some of the plot twists in this book... especially towards the end I was like "what the actual f***?!" The audiobook is also really good!

Sounds like you need to embark on a passionate love affair with your library and try all those maybe books in a low risk, no strings situation lol. I loooove preordering but it's become super high risk. Might have to take inspiration from you and conduct a ruthless review of my preorder list.

Small sample size, but everyone I know who read a Hexologists arc hated it, if that helps you any? I personally had a mismatch reading his first series (I made it 2.5 books through sheer willpower before DNFing)

For your first point, if it's a hyped book your friends are loving, then you should borrow the book from them. For your second point "Buying multiple books..." in that case I always either buy: their debut, their latest book, or their most popular/famous book to read first so I don't end up buying loads from an unread author.

i dont mind a what moves the dead sequel, in a sense that i think Easton is a great character and id like to read more about their horroristic adventures. hopefully it's gonna be better than the house with good bones.. that one was something. not great.

Re: The September House. I don’t disagree with your opinion. However, I don’t think it’s just authors who think that babies, pets, or a new house project will ‘fix’ their marriage problems. I think it’s people in general. I’ve seen it in real life. I’m seeing it currently with a close friend. Even though we know these statistics, people still resist real therapy and opt for ‘quick’ fixes like a baby or a fixer-upper 🤦🏻♀️

hahahaha there’s always the male character that gaslights his wife in horror stories. ‘that chair that moved across the room, it must be a draft!’ … shortly followed by ‘honey you’ve been under a lot of pressure lately, why don’t you take a break and go stay with your sister in Maine?’ 🕰️🕰️🕰️
