You know you don't hear music like this today makes me wish the people in my generation sung like this..real you know...

Simply beautiful and rather sad. Those were the days, with the guys from Calexico in the band. Of course, the video was never played on MTV. They have no room for REAL artists like Helb and his friends. Thanks muchas for posting.Greetings from El Paso!

Hey mate. You NEED to get the album this is off - Chore of Enchantment. It's absolutely mind-blowing. I've looked into a lot of their other stuff, but it's the one album that really captures that melancholic sound so beautifully.

Thanks for the heads up for the 'Chore' cd-neing ordered now! For a similar left field Brit vibe, I would recommed Arab Strap (good starter is the '10 years' cd) & poss early Belle & Sebastian

John and Joe don't even play on this one! I believe it's some guys from Kevin Salem's crowd. IIRC Giant Sand have a new great record out 'Provisions'! Get it!

Great song. I feel ashamed to say, atho. being a big fan of indie in general (The Fall, Magazine, Wire, etc) and more recent U.S. alt-rock (Wilco, Lambchop, Sparklehorse), had never really heard any GS records. Can anyone suggest other 'greats' of theirs, albums to start with, best comp?

Any of em, but you wanna get obscure with contemporaries? Built Like Alaska, the first few M. Ward records, Virgil Shaw, Earlimart, Pine Marten, Joe Sampson, and the late, great Rainer Ptacek.
