There are two class 121 bubble cars in service. The one on the video was brought back into service in 2011. Both 121s are fitted with AWS, TPWS, OTDRs, GSM-R and an electomagnetic secondary door locking system. The 121s operate services during the weekday peaks. They will be withdrawn from service ahead of the May 2017 timetable change. (Interestingly, were they to stay in service, it is likely they would have been fitted with wi-fi.)

But is Quainton Road quaint?
@liftylu2 жыл бұрын
It isn’t just this line they run them on, plus I don’t know if there’s only two of those units running. The reason why I say this is because there’s a class 121 on the Swanage Railway in Dorset which is formed of three coaches and if there are any issues with a steam train, instead of using one of their class 33 units, they can just use this instead. I’ve been on it before and it’s nice apart from the door to the driver signal which is really loud.

Yes, a points system Geoff. The checklist of station amenities should score weighted points depending on their necessity and then combine into the "Station Index" that can ranked overall. Easy peasy. You'll have to start your 'all the stations' over again.
@RJE488 жыл бұрын
If you go to Bekonscot Model Village there is a huge model railway you will like. Also the most reliable train service in the UK is run on the Isle of Wight and it uses an old 1930's tube trains. it's easily assessable at Ryde using the Hovercraft from Southsea (Next to Portsmouth) or you can use the Fastcat. It also has a station that is out to sea again for the Fastcat.

Interesting that you come across a heritage unit used in commuter service. Here in Chicago, we have plenty of Budd-built bilevel cars dating back to the 1950s still in service on the Metra Burlington line, where they were first put into service. Also, in this as-yet-unnamed system, should there be one for local scenery? The field across from Little (Detective John) Kimble was quite picturesque where as Swale was a bit grim next to that bridge.

Those 'heritage' trains! To me, they are the nasty diesel units which took over from steam - and more specifically for me, the Marlow Donkey. I am pleased to see the safety locking features because towards the end of those DMUs' lives I was travelling on a train to Reading at speed when the door at the seat where I was sitting flew open with a mighty crash. It was most disconcerting, but no one batted an eyelid. When the train arrived in Twyford I merely slammed it shut again. This was not an isolated incident either; it happened fairly often. On the news today (8/2/17) I also hear that passengers panicked on a train at Dalston when the carriage filled with smoke and there were some injuries in the rush to leave. A carriage on one of those old DMUs also filled with smoke on a trip from Maidenhead to Paddington back in the 80s - I merely pulled the communication cord, people opened the windows to let in some fresh air and the guard walked along the track, kicked something on the motor beneath the carriage and we continued on our way. Some left the carriage for another, but there was no panic, merely English sang froid!
