One time I went to ask my drama teacher something and she left for like forty minutes. The students in her class were working on a super vague project and they started asking me questions about it because I was a senior and I guess they thought I knew what the assignment was. Next thing I knew I was at the front of the class giving a mini-lecture about theater terminology and the drama teacher came back in. I almost forgot why I came in, but in any case she thanked me for essentially subbing her class. Weirdest day of my life but it gave me a taste of power that I've never been able to replicate since.

Hi @@MMcCoy-yh4ho and welcome to KZbin! On behalf of the internet welcoming committee I hope you enjoy your time here. We see you've already stumbled upon one tradition, which can be understandably confusing for newcomers: transcribing funny lines in the comments. It is, you'll find, quite common for folks to quote their favorite lines from a comedy sketch in the comments section here. Don't be alarmed. This is normal and harmless. It should affect your life, not at all. There is no need to cry or to ask people to stop. In fact you can feel free to up vote these quotes if you also found that part funny. It's simple, pure, and helps humans parse the normality of their senses of humor. With that, we wish you good luck in learning how the internet works. Happy watching! I laughed way too hard at this and it also made me a little guilt-ridden because I was the "teacher's pet" all throughout school and even college. Most "teacher's pet" students want to be validated because its so conditioned into the educational system that a student's worth is reflected by teacher's approval. Also, being socially awkward with other students meant that my teachers often looked out for me.

Some of my favorite gifts I've received from students throughout the years... 1. Half empty bottles of lotion. 2. Perfume with the "Tester" sticker on it(I don't want to know how they got it). 3. So many key chains(some with keys still attatched)!!! 4. Ramen noodles. 5. Dollar Store jewelry, which I most definitely wore. 6. An actual DIAMOND NECKLACE, that it turns out was a family heirloom the student took from mom's drawer. Yes, it was returned. Loved all of their gifts, and was incredibly grateful they even thought of me. This skit was very relatable, they just left out the kids asking to have lunch with you everyday because the lunchroom is too "crazy". Had to limit that to once a week for my own sanity. God kids are great!!!

As a teacher, this shit makes me break out into an anxiety cold sweat. The majority of the "teacher's pets" are kids who are going through something and just want a positive mentor/parental figure because they're not getting it elsewhere. But it seriously DOES put us in such a difficult spot because enforcing our own personal and professional boundaries is essential, but we also don't want to alienate a benevolent kid. I work in a high school and I've had kids do something innocent like trying and failing to get me to friend them on social media (I've since gone private for obvious reasons), to escalating by trying to walk me to my car against my wishes or buying me gifts I don't feel comfortable accepting. Just document everything and keep principals and parents informed so nothing gets out of hand and the creepy/clingy behavior gets nipped in the bud.
@tinaloye20144 жыл бұрын
Yikes 😬
@Weird_dude2654 жыл бұрын
I don't think those things are *that* creepy or clingy? It seems like they see you as a friend is all. Have you tried explaining why those things are inappropriate? Depending on their home life telling their parents might make it worse. Just my opinion.
@Collsy1004 жыл бұрын
@@Weird_dude265 That's the thing, though. Even if it's totally well-intentioned, it's not appropriate for a minor/student to see me, their teacher, as their friend or peer. It's absolutely encouraged that I as a teacher have a friendly, warm relationship with my students, but it still has to have clear boundaries and I have to be professional. There are plenty of teens who see me as an older sister or mom, it's all conducted out in the open, and everything is consensual (NOT in a sexual sense obviously, I just mean to say that I have the right to say no to a child following me around or trying to contact me after hours). #1 Friending me on social media is alright after they have graduated because that's where I post personal things, such as photos of myself with my SO, vent about issues, document my personal life, etc. Students shouldn't have that information on me. Or, if I'm essentially never on social media/don't post anything personal, go for it. #2 Walking me to my car means that they know what I drive and can be alone with me. There have been plenty of instances in just the past ten years alone of students stalking teachers and it beginning innocently enough. Nobody likes to be followed around, and I have the right to say no. OR just as easily, rumors could easily start that a teacher is being inappropriate with a student because unless I ask a student to help me carry something heavy to or from my car, there is no reason that they should be in or near my vehicle. And if they do end up in my vehicle (like let's say it's cold out, they walk to/from school, and I fear for them), I had better document it and let their parent/guardian know. It should never be kept a secret if I am alone with a student and am taking them to a second location. #3 If they buy me a gift for Christmas or my birthday that's small, then it's sweet. But if they start buying me gifts out of nowhere and it's something more than expensive than a typical teacher gift (Starbucks card, coffee mug, stuffed animal, homemade cookies, etc.), it's not ethical for me to take it from a minor. And it's uncomfortable if anyone tries to love bomb you with with attention and gifts, let alone if that person is a minor and I've made it clear that I do not welcome this. As a teacher, I need to meet a student's social-emotional needs as well as teach them based on our state's standards. We should be warm and encouraging, but we can't cross the line and become inappropriate; absolutely be friendly, but not their friend. Students have plenty of friends and peers, but they only have a few teachers/mentors in their childhood. I tell my students tidbits about my personal life anecdotally all the time, but they're not in my inner circle. If I don't want to volunteer personal information, relinquish my privacy, or accept expensive/random gifts, I am not consenting and it's not alright. This behavior signals to me that the student either isn't getting love and attention and is glomming onto me (which garners my sympathy and I'd be gentle about reorienting them), or that they're trying to initiate something inappropriate and I definitely need to clue in their principal and parent to protect all involved.

This is oddly true, I’m a middle school teacher. I have a student who loves to “tattle” so much it’s up to 15 times a period and it’s literally over anything.

The only inaccuracy is the maternity leave. I only know a few who have enough PTO for a full 12 week maternity leave. And it is definitely never a full semester off.
@HelloDollies5 жыл бұрын
@@andrewbergman4783 FMLA is definitely only 12 weeks for new child care. And teachers can certainly take that. But typically school districts only pay you for how much PTO you have saved up. If you've only been there 2 years, you only have 20 days (4 weeks) not a lot of people can go 8 weeks without pay. Especially not new parents.

It makes more sense for a school to celebrate teachers pet behavior by calling it teachers "friend". But we all know they're still teachers pet.
