In this video I Bore the 360 Mopar Black for the Little Red Express Truck.
This job certainly had it's challenges.
But we are turning this engine into a solid performer for sure.

Interesting. The alignment and all. My days in the production machine shop in the '80s: We had a similar setup based on mains saddles....maybe center on cam bore depending on what the block was. But the WORST nightmare(there were a lot of them at the time) was Ford 401/477/534 blocks. Not only was the combustion chamber in the cylinder, the block was sooo hard(high in chrome content) that even if you got things aligned right the bore was always tapered just because the cutter wore out as it cut. Mega frustrating and time-consuming to get correct. I love soft, regular cast iron.

That last cylinder looked like it had a crack in it. Probably just a trick of the light though. It's gotta frustrate you to get to the last hole and you get a blemish like that. It cleaned up a lot with that last pass, maybe the hone will catch the rest. Nice work Ed 👍

Thanks Joshua, I appreciate you watching. There is no cracks in the cylinders. The blemish as you stated, yes it very frustrating! Been there a 100 times. Joy of machining these old engines. I do believe it will clean up in honing. And if not it Will never be an issue. Hard to find old blocks that will make a .030. Have a good evening. 👍

Hey Ed you might be joking about it was fine before you touched it, 😂 but that is how people think, one tryed to blame me for a ball joint, that failed and I didn't have time to change it, but he had to drive it home, not be dropped off, but he wasn't going to drive it from there, abused me when it dropped out,😂 great job, not to long it takes what it takes, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones

I just sonic checked my 71 360, and bores were .200 to .300 consistent. Hoping to build a nice runner out of it.

Ed, you're saying that most if not all blocks had core shift to some extent? But more importantly the machinist wasn't really paying attention to detail because it was possible there was likely scrap from the previous block left behind and lifted one side or the other.

Hi Anthony, thanks for watching and commenting. No I did not say the block or blocks had core shift. It was machined off because of either Datum location or worn fixtures. And the machinists could have been an issue also. That would be speculation of course. Quality suffered because of financial problems, JMO. I think this block was a good casting.
