The horn that comes in near the end of the track is a flugelhorn played by the Australian Jazz musician Bob Venier. The final recorded version was total improvisation and the first take he did. He did 3 other takes but the band preferred the 1st one.

The mid to late 70's was a strange time in Australian music. Heavier rock was more the flavour, so bands like the Bee Gees, LRB, or Air Supply were not as popular as bands like ACDC or The Angels.

@micko111543 жыл бұрын
Way better than this version! As usual anything Farnham does is the best!
@garycolon42132 жыл бұрын
@@micko11154 Have to disagree. Farnham is very talented, but he seems to be more concerned with showing off his pipes than in honoring the melody. This song calls for the smooth, melodic approach, which Glenn has in spades. Not knocking Farnham's vocal abilities, but Glenn's voice is the voice of The Little River Band. John Farnham is more suited to being a solo artist.

The flugelhorn player on this track was Bob Venier, one of Australia’s top jazz players. Chod, you might like to check out (maybe not for this channel, just for your own pleasure) his old band Pyramid, where he played alongside Roger MacLachlan on bass guitar (who also played in LRB and played the bass on John Farnham’s You’re The Voice), David Hirschfelder on keyboards, and David Jones on drums. They’re all world class jazz players. Here’s a link to a couple of songs at the Montreux Jazz Festival: kzbin.info/www/bejne/opewq6evYrN4grc

The Little River Band is a VIBE. They are smooth and classy. You can’t go wrong reacting to anything by them! They’re worthy of being in your top tier of groups. (Which HAS to be more than 10. In fact, you should ditch the notion of setting a number to that tier)

John Farnham is my FAVORITE singer of ALL time, but I like Glenn better with LRB because John's super powerful voice seemed to overpower Beeb & Graeham. I'm not crazy about Steven Housden because he is one of the main reasons, the ORIGINAL LRB members can no longer use THEIR name of THEIR own original band!
