I liked predators, it respected and expanded the lore. the predator dogs and the super predators were waaay cooler than the ones in the predator. I love this franchise but I honestly despised this movie, I haven't been this disappointed since I've seen the last jedi :(

There's a theory that rogue predators from Predators are actually females: - In extended canon Females are supposed to be bigger and stronger than the Males. - Predators aren't Mamals so they are not required to have tits. Besides their mouths make for bad suckers. - Differences between Male and Female hunting styles: Males tour prey's planet, Females get the prey delivered to them. They hunt in Matriarchal trios of Mother and Daughters. According to Fishbourne's character If one of them dies a neighbouring trio comes and kills the rest aquiring their territory. - Male predators can only visit during the mating season and have to aquire trophies to impress the Females. Apparently the poor sod from the movie fucked something up and got hanged.

Ok, this is where i'll slightly disagree about Predator 87 having humor, it had some jokes and quips in the first act but once the predator attacks, the joking stops and who is the first guy to die? Its Hawkins the comic relief guy, the jokes in the beginning were used to lure you into a false sense of security and heighten the tonal shift

I think the difference is that this movie tried to have a more serious plot than any of the other Predator movies so the same cornball humor that no one batted an eye at in the previous three films suddenly stood out like a sore thumb here. The other movies never really tried to be anything more than B-movie ideas by contrast. The thing is though, that kind of mood whiplash is a staple of Shane Black films, so maybe he was just not a good choice for the franchise despite his involvement in the original film. Doesn't help that Black's previous big franchise film was Iron Man 3 which became one of the go-to examples of an MCU movie having "too much humor".

Well, for your point on not liking the honor, that system was in place even in the first one. When he recognizes Dutch as an equal and takes off his mask to honorably dual him hand to hand. Or in Predator 2 when the Predators willingly give up a gun to Danny Glover out of respect for an equal. Predator honor has been a thing since the beginning, man.

I dunno, I always liked to interpret the Predator in the first movie taking off it's gear as toying with Dutch. Like it could have just shot him, but instead wanted to draw it out more to make him suffer; less so honour, more so beating him for it's own amusement. But even if it was honour, I think the comics and novels went too far with the whole honour thing and turned the Predators into rip-offs of the Klingons from Star Trek. But that's just my take.

I guess. I can see where you're coming from. Great review BTW. One element that really pissed me off that wasn't mentioned was the autism thing. As someone who struggles with Asperger's syndrome I didn't find the whole "austism is the next evolution" angle empowering. It was just condescending and patronizing, like they feel the need to try this hard to appeal to the autistic crowd. It makes me appreciate the new Power Rangers movie much more. That at least had a more realistic view of autism. I know this is a movie about an alien hunter and I'm probably taking it too seriously, but that just begs the question, "Why did they even bother trying to make a point on autism?" It makes this my personal most hated movie of 2018 despite Venom being technically a worse movie.

In the comics, we end up being introduced to the Bad Blooded Predators who were more interested in killing rather hunting. By killing, I mean these Predators don't care if you're an innocent bystander. They'll still kill you just for the pleasure that it brings to them. The Super Predators in Robert Rodriguez's movie Predators are possibly Bad Blooded Predators.

Glad to see you revise your view on Predators!. To me it does enough with the lore, the combat and the characters to classify it as a solid movie and a solid sequel to the Predator series. It only had two problems that keep it away from being a classic like the original Predator: 1. They completely mishandled Lawrence Fishburne. He's an amazing actor with a great range, yet they made him out to be this ridiculous over-the-top lunatic that speaks with imaginary friends. His role as the sole survivor in the preserve and having him go mad was fine, it's just that the execution and his mostly terrible dialogue are a bloody waste of Lawrence's talents. 2. That awful guy from "That 70's show" was absolutely horrendous. His role in the movie was pivotal yet his reveal as a villain couldn't intimidate a puppy. The role of the seemingly normal serial killer should've gone to an actor who knows how to portray that duality, like Michael C. Hall ( from Dexter). Aside from that, I loved it. I encourage anyone who's a fan of the original movie and hasn't watched Predators to give it a chance. Also give the tie-in comics a shot if you are into comics, they're freaking great!.

The "focus group testing" didn't happen with Solo, nor Fant4stic, nor Justice League, nor Suicide Squad (at least not fully), nor Alien 3. Those movie's production issues were happening during the production itself, it's not like the film was going well and then all of a sudden test screenings resulted in the production going haywire.

I couldn’t help but love this movie despite all its flaws and people have jumped down my throat for it which is fine, but I think that should this movie get an Alien 3-style directors cut it could truly be something entirely different. My only hope is that people knowing that there’s a totally different version of this film somewhere at Fox will keep this film alive. I encourage people to find out what was cut and rearranged through people like Mr. H and maybe make your voice heard. Cheers Jimmy! Got excited when I saw a LittleJimmy upload yesterday and then quite disappointed when Fox just assassinated it. Glad you reuploaded. I had a good time watching this movie for the most part, but I wholly agree with this analysis. It feels rushed in many places with bad cuts, like one where the Predator kills some dude and I thought he just unceremoniously eviscerated Olivia Munn but a few shots later she is still alive and the final five minutes are just god awful and unfulfilling. I look forward to very little at the cinema because studios just distill film down to a basic formula they think will park arses in seats. Hollywood is not where the future of the industry is at anymore as they iterate on hollow crap.

That Predator Killer armor ruins a lot of things in this franchise. The Fugitive Predator gives us an advance tech for us to reverse engineer. Where are those plasma based weapons in the future? Why don't we have those mjolnir armors in the future? Why are the weapons we're using in the future still suck even though an advance tech like the Predator Killer armor was given to us? Bit of a fan theory just to put at mind the change of lore. But seeing as there are multiple clans of Yautja, and each clan has a different style when it comes to hunting or even different version of the Yautja hunting code, maybe the Predators in THIS movie are from a research devision in a particular clan. Whereas the other 3 movies showed they hunt for sport, it could be a clan that participates that way. In AvP we see that hunting Xenomorphs is a right of passage, perhaps to THAT particular clan, and at least for the City Hunter in Predator 2 it was another day on the hunt. So maybe this clan wants to try and perfect themselves in a way that makes them better killers. Just like with Noland saying about the Super Predators in PREDATORS, usually they upgrade their weapons, armour and even tactics. Basically evolution to become better killers. But maybe this clan wants to take things even further, and the Upgrade Predator was the final design. But of course not all clans feel the same way, and in other sources of media, Predators like humans will have internal conflicts. Be it amongst the two species of Predators, between different clans, heck as we have seen in The Predator thanks to the Fugitive Predator, even within the clan itself.

Also, this movie is actually ripping off the plot from Guyver. In Guyver, a Zoinoid has this piece of tech called Guyver that he smuggled in order for his race not to use it against humanity. Said Guyver tech ended up at the hands of a teenage boy and starts using it against the Zoinoids. Can you see the similarity of this movie to that of Guyver's plot?

The characters were all pretty much the same, they were just given one unique trait each. You have ONE comedy character in a group, not every single character like this lot. The characters in the original may have said a few jokes but once one of their unit was killed, shit got real and they stopped with the jokes. This new team don't take a single god damn thing seriously no matter how bad it gets. If they don't take the situation seriously then neither do I. Their constant jokes totally undermine any tension.

In my humble opinion, the best course of action would be making historically themed predator movies (fighting samurais, cowboys, pirates,... or even in WW2). Maybe, but it's not completely out of place and not all predators follow the honour code. Bad bloods like the ones we see in predators do just hunt for fun. Honestly I'd be happy to see more movies about bab bloods and less movies about our favourite hunters trying to weaponize autism. And trust me if you don't like friendly preds you wouldn't have liked the original plot of this movie.
