I don't feel the Terminator series should be terminated. More like, Hollywood needs to be terminated for hiring bad people to continue a great series. With just the first two movies, there's already so much lore in this franchise that could be explored and Hollywood ignores it to tell some generic mass-produced story that's been told before, changing everything we know and not caring about what's been established. So many ideas for Future War stories or even new stories in the "present" like the man who Skynet models the T-800 after confronting his T-800 doppelganger. So many possibilities and yet no-one in Hollywood employs honest die-hard fans of the franchise to tell these stories on the big-screen.

Terminator is NOT the story of Sarah Connor. It was always about John. God people are just dumb. Next T2 can work with Reese's story. In the beginning Sarah says Skynet sent 2 Terminators back through time. The only major contradiction is T-1000 arriving but it still arrived naked so maybe it can generate living skin enough to get through the time travel machine. They should have stopped at T2 though.

T2 doesn’t necessarily contradict T1. Setting aside everything after T2, we can presume that Skynet sent two Terminators back at the same time to 1984 and 1995 respectively. Perhaps from Reese’s perspective, they had only discovered that Skynet’s 1984 time incursion and only discovered the 1995 incursion after Reese had already went back in time and acted accordingly.

Killing John Connor is way worse than killing Newt, Bishop and Hicks in Alien 3, because they were not the main characters, Ripley was. But in Terminator, it is clearly John Connor, the savior of mankind, who is the central character of the entire series. Without him there is no Terminator. Period.
@shellshock638
@shellshock638 4 жыл бұрын
Exactly. The whole point and goal of the terminator series was making sure of John Conners survival. Of course other things happen in the movies but the end goal is always the same. Keep john alive so he can lead the future war. Kind of like how the whole point of the back to the future series is getting Marty home to 1985. Again other stuff happens in those movies but ultimately the whole goal is making sure Marty gets home with the timeline in tact. Killing John Conner at the start of dark fate and then saying some random other company called legion was just going to take over anyway totaly makes the first 2 movies seem pointless. It's insulting. It's like if they made a back to the future 4 and had Marty killed in the first few minutes by biff and then had the timeline fall apart again by some random other time traveler. It's just awful.
@DemonDethchase
@DemonDethchase 4 жыл бұрын
As I usually say about Legion and how it makes the same old Terminators, and same old time displacement devices, it feels like that The Who song Won't Get Fooled Again with the lyric "meet the new boss, same as the old boss." Or, I can't believe it's not Skynet, can you?

The main reason I like T3 is because it went back to what was said in T1 (which was contradicted in T2): that you cannot stop the future. Well, that and the action, it was very good both in T3 and Salvation. I honestly think that they should have never cancelled the secuels to Salvation, that they should have stayed with the Future War instead of repeating the plot of T1 and T2 over and over again. I don't remember who said it, but it's like if the secuels to Back to the Future were the same plot as in the first movie, with Marty McFly going back to 1965 and 1975 to make sure that his parents stay together. Instead of that, in each of the Back to the Future movies they give us a different plot, and that's why the trilogy is so good. Also, seriously, everyone wants to see the Future War of Terminator (with plasma guns, and not the first stages of the war as in Salvation), just like everyone wants to see the Colonial Marines back into the Alien franchise (or into an AVP movie). Why the hell don't they do that? Similar things could be said about Predator, for example. I think everyone would love a Predator 3, just like in the same spirit of Predator 2 (changing the setting, from a jungle to a city, and the protagonist, from a militar to a cop; but this time, instead of a jungle or a city we get something else and instead of a militar or a cop with get someone else). But instead they give us garbage like the last predator movie. They could also go to the past and have a predator fighting samurais or pirates or whatever. Anyway, Little Jimmy, is good to see you back.

You're so ON POINT, it's kinda scary how you're not a real movie critic people take seriously. I saw your Salvation review and that was on point as well. I am a huge Terminator fan, especially T2... each subsequent sequel, I had hoped it would somehow "make sense". Each one failed, but I still saw it because despite the bad reviews, I gave the benefit of the doubt. This one included... I really want it to work! Since they were supposed to make 3 films out of it. However, with a 100M+ loss at the box office, you can say GOODBYE to it for GOOD or at least for a few years before someone try to REBOOT IT. It's such a shame!

People giving a movie a pass because of the technical accomplishments, instead of both the story and technical accomplishments, means that it is a bad movie. If a movie’s only saving grace is the effects, the acting, the music, and the editing…and not the story, which is badly written, and plot holes, contrivances, and logic gaps means that it us a bad movie. You gave the Sarah Connor Chronicles props and cons for their positives and negatives. Don’t feel bad that you did the same here.

About the Terminator growing a conscience and feeling bad about killing John; It makes sense for Kyle Reese to only know terminators as these mindless killing machines. He only ever fought them, never really interacted with one or anything of that matter. And Terminator 2 shows that he’s kind of wrong. The theatrical cut of Terminator 2 explains, that the more a T-800 has contact with humans, the more he learns. And given the fact they have an actual AI inside their heads, it’s not illogical to assume they would grow something like a conscience eventually, even though it will never be exactly like a human, which is actually stated in Dark Fate. After "Carl" had killed his target, he had no purpose anymore. But since terminators apparently can’t "self-terminate" or rather commit suicide, he had to find something to do, which led him to Alicia and her family. I found Carl as a character to be one the most interesting and engaging ever since Terminator 2.

or maybe a reprogrammed terminator is sent back by the resistance to kill the creator of Skynet, and another terminator is sent back by Skynet to protect their creator, and that revelation is only revealed at the end of the movie.
@nton8057
@nton8057 Жыл бұрын
they couldve explained the second terminator simply by saying it was teleported to the wrong location, such as inside a wall or under the floor (in the original script humans sent multiple resistance fighters which died in time travel accidents) , they could claim Sarah connor reprogrammed the terminator rather then it gaining a conscience , they could even create a plot twist where it turns out the john connor that died wasn't the real one and Sarah would have another kid afterwards. which would make the time travel paradox of john supposedly sending his dad back in time to birth him make more sense .

I think the sequels to T2 (...god, it's depressing we have a _TRILOGY_ of failed Terminator 3s now...) is that they're trying to be "bigger and better" than T2 and it just will never work. T2 was already bigger and better and spectacular while being realized in the most grounded way as possible, you will never top the things it still makes it hold up to this day. And besides, people have seen other action films with memorable and impressive stunts, so when you're failing to top T2, you're also being lame and mediocre next to the likes of Mad Max: Fury Road, John Wick, The Raid or the Mission: Impossible films. It's kinda like how "Independence Day: Resurgence" was such a wet sandwich, the first movie was already bombastic and over the top, the disaster movies aren't impressive anymore and by 2016 people already saw plenty superhero films that show a lot of large scale CGI destruction, "Resurgence" brought NOTHING new to the table, the only thing it elevated was taking the worst aspects of the first movie and making them worse. My solution, again, for a Terminator sequel is to just leave John and Sarah Connor alone, and just make a new conflict set in the same universe, and have it be more personal, small-scaled and horroresque like the first Terminator film. Don't fucking try to top T2, they failed three fucking times. Just let it go. Same way I firmly believe you can make great Star Wars media without touching the Skywalkers, you CAN make great characters and stories, it's a fucking delusion to believe you can only do remakes and deconstructions.

Aawwwww yeah, it's good to have you back, even on a blue moon like this. Okay, so.... some thoughts. The whole plane scene was the low point of the film for me, too. Up until then, it had stayed JUUUUUUST grounded enough, even with the Rev-9 hacking all our surveillance systems an' whatnot that I was thoroughly engaged. But too much action made me tune out for a bit, and once they were in the dam and things were happening at a small scale again I was pulled back into it. Ugh. As for everything else... I found myself not nearly as upset by John's death as I was by Alien 3 because that left nowhere to go with those characters. At least in this case, John and Sarah were spared a good few years to repair their troubled relationship and live something of a normal life, however short. And personally, I find it darkly poetic that John Connor and Skynet, these eternal enemies, ultimately obliterated each other. The moment that really cut me was Sarah confiding that she didn't have any pictures of John, cause she figured the machines might not find him if they didn't know what he looked like, but it's been so long, she's starting to forget his face. Ugh, I relate to that a little bit... I've forgotten the sound of my late dog crying, and I loved her so much I never thought that would happen. But there you go. I hate how easy it is to just.... forget those you love without some recording. One of my favorite running themes in the movie is purpose. Mainly characters gaining a sense of purpose and fulfillment by having someone to protect. I'm a sucker for the bodyguard archetype, someone directionless with no goals of their own, nothing to live for, but they find someone who inspires them so much they go, "I will dedicate myself to ensuring they live to see THEIR dream fulfilled." People might find that kind of character bland, but I don't. I find it incredibly moving if done right, just that level of devotion to another person. Done poorly, the protector could be manipulated by the person they protect, or grow some perverse sense of ownership over them. I think it's done right in this case, though. Dani saying "I'm sorry" and Grace saying "I'm not," aw man, that shit just kills me. Grace has this subtle but powerful warmth to her that's hard to pick up on but it is there, and you see this theme of purpose expressed through the other characters as well. Without John, Sarah loses her purpose until she starts to see some of John in Dani. Without a target to kill, without skynet feeding him orders, "Carl" defaults to being an infiltrator unit, studying our behavior and copying it to better blend in until he finds himself protecting someone too. The biggest message I got out of this movie? No matter how fucked up the future gets, SOMEONE will step up to save it. Doesn't have to be a John or a Sarah. It could be a Dani. They could come out of nowhere. Point is, there's always somebody, every age has its hero, and humanity only loses when it gives up. That's awesome. I honestly hope they don't make another Terminator film after this, unless they make it REEEALLY different. This one left things pretty open ended, but implied that Sarah and Dani are going to stop this bad future from happening much like they killed Skynet in T2. And.... well you can see how this series has gotten repetitive. There's always gonna be some other evil AI, but at least it's not a loop, more like a game of tug of war. They can always stave off Judgement day a few more decades, and again, as long as they can, they just can't give up.

Concerning the time travel being confusing since Terminator 2; Try thinking about these films in separate timelines. When the reprogrammed Arniebot and the T-1000 are sent back, that very event causes the creation of another timeline that branches off of the established timeloop from Terminator 1. So in Kyle Reese’s mind, there only were him and the T-800 that were sent back, because that was the case in his timeline. In the Terminator 2 / Dark Fate timeline more terminators were sent back. That’s why even though Skynet was eliminated before 1997, the Terminators it sent back in the other future still arrive in the changed past.
