Director Ridley Scott already confirmed 4 to 6 Alien related movies that he's working on. he said that he wants to have a two year minimum gap between the production of these films. And his last Alien film is going to top off with his original 1979 Alien. Also the Alien 5 spin off is unfortunately pretty much dead, I was really routing for it since I really enjoy the director (he did District 9, Elysium and Chappie) and I wonder what his take would've been with an Alien film. Anywho, I'm a big fan littlejimmy835 and I've been watching your videos for years now. I definitely agree with your views and hope to see more of your content in the future. Covenant was entertaining but I liked Prometheus much more. Prometheus with Its half-answers and even more questions, naively, made me think there could be both answers to the aliens' origins story while continuing the mystery surrounding it. But, of course, you can't have answers and mystery at the same time. Now they've painted the franchise in a corner which will probably conclude as disappointingly as the final Lost episode. The mystery surrounding the alien is what made the movies great and both Prometheus and Covenant are what happens when you give the fans, me included, what they *think* they want.

I really disagree with what you thought the designs of the AVP xenomorphs look like. They are the right colour, use animatronics, have good use of CGI, better than covenant's protomorph/xenomorph,and are put into a cool setting( the pyramid). Probably the only nitpick is the fin at the end of the tail. I think the complaints were a little to harsh, however I do think the predators from AVP suck. The avpr designs also suck. Dog alien looks cool. Most of ADIs designs suck. Also which predator is cooler the jungle hunter or city hunter?

I enjoyed the Walter vs. David fight, given how it fit with the Angels and Demons/good vs. evil creation themes and features stellar choreography, not to mention funny one-liners. I'm with you on that terrible liftoff sequence with the Alien bashing its head on the glass, though. They could've cut that entire sequence and not lost any narrative progression or emotional impact.

apparently Ridley Scott said the next one called Alien Awakening is gonna take place between Prometheus & Covenant. WTF?!!!! Seriously?!!! You're gonna end Covenant on a ending which still doesn't answer how there were eggs which are suppose to the thousands of years old on another planet were there when the Xenomorph species was created a few decades before that. Plus I really hate that idea of making movies (Except for Star Wars movies) "Oh lets make another one then the one after that takes place in between." it's like why not just make Awakening first then Covenant? Following on in the interview, Scott reiterated that he plans to film the Alien: Covenant sequel, potentially titled Alien: Awakening within a year, with a release set for 21 months down the road from now: "I’ll probably be filming it [the sequel to Covenant] within a year, it’ll be out within a year and nine months. It’s weird when you’re writing, doing, planning, thinking about franchises, it’s amazing how it opens up and starts to evolve." When asked about further sequels Scott has planned, he mentions he might do one, or two more: "I don’t know. [I’ll make] maybe two more [films], or maybe one more, I don’t know." Previously, Scott made mention that he had wanted up to 5 films in the Prometheus saga, having 4 sequels to Prometheus in total. Perhaps Scott plans to hand over the reigns for sequels 3 and 4?

I HATED the ending twist. It felt unnecessarily dark and depressing like a bad horror movie. I also hated the David created the Aliens bit which is complete bullshit. In the first film they established the alien ship was thousands of years old and the body of the Jockey had been fossilized. Ridley has become a hack trying to rewrite his films in a Lucas type manner.

Ridley is Lucasing this series. I thought the way he turned the amazing space jockey design into a bald albino in a space suit was lame but the origin it now gives for the xenomorph is terrible! So mundane. On top of that this film isn't even a goopd sequel to Prometheus as it skips over almost everything brought up in that film other than David just so they can turn him into a cartoon villain out to destroy the world with his lab made monsters. Ridley doesn't understand what made the original so good. O'Bannon and Giger are what made the original a classic and Ridley has taken the credit.

we're getting 4 more Alien films by Ridley Scott, the next is called Awakening to take place between Prometheus and Covenant and eventually Ridley wants to go War of the Worlds style. So I'm keen. Also I feel this original series is now mostly about the thematic archs of Humans, Androids, Engineers and Xenomorphs. I know the origins feel mixed (I myself am confused considering the Predator mythos-though Ridley ignores it) but I feel the Xenomorph is the perfect organism by universal logic as a creature that ultimately occurs eventually and always...idk maybe i'm trying to retcon and reverse engineer but it's cool to think about for me. I loved this movie

SPOILERS. My biggest issue with the film was the speed at which the alien developed, from facehugger implantation to adult. It took like half an hour. In the original, The facehugger was on Kane's face for hours, and then after it was off his face kane spent time talking to the crew before it burst out of his chest. It was similar in aliens with the colonist chest bursting sequence. However in this film the facehugger was on the captain for like 15 minutes, then as soon as the captain woke up it burst out of his chest. It was then fully developed in about 5 minutes when the two guys with guns went to find out what happened to the captain. It felt very AVP esque for me Oh and then what about the fact that it takes 2 seconds for the facehugger to implant an embryo in the soldier, and the embryo developed without any protection? I thought the whole point of the facehugger was that it was supposed to be on the face to ensure the embryo was protected while it developed, hence the acidic blood defence mechanism and that the host would die if it was removed (as shown in alien with ash explaining it to dallas and aliens with the facehuggers in the tanks). Still, these are nitpicks, overall i thought it was a solid effort and if you get past the dumb character moments it can be quite enjoyable to watch. Tenessee (Danny McBride) was surprisingly good, and Michael Fassbender was fantastic. Ripley 5.0 was also decent but could have been better imo.

As confusing as these prequels are, I would NOT retcon them. It's the plot and the characters that can be confusing, but the creatures and the settings? They can be sandbox for cool and badass stories. Hell, the AVP movies of the future (I REALLY hope they mention Weyland Corp in "The Predator") can totally have some Engineers and stuff, there's already comics that can serve as blueprints on how to do it right. Same way I don't want Alien 3 and even Alien Resurrection to be retconned, embrace them, have a film set after them with new good characters and if you want have a small cameo of clone Ripley if you really want to. Retconning is just stupid when you do it over and over. Same way I don't care for the Halloween franchise and what the Terminator series has become (the next one will be ANOTHER retcon... this is fucking ridiculous...) Retconning the first two AVP films didn't really kill much potential (Predators made pyramids and were clichéd ancient astronauts... woopty doo.), I can agree with retconning those, but using the lore established about the Space Jockeys? Yeah, you can do interesting stuff with them.

Having said that, I myself haven't seen this movie yet but I enjoyed Prometheus & AVP enough & read many IMDB user reviews to say that this movie will utterly disappoint me in a lot if ways, besides the visuals & action gore. This movie seems to implicate the slasher-horror genre rather than straight-up horror or action like the first 2 movies with lores & characters that make sense. However I reserve some of my judgements until I watch the whole movie, for free, not gonna waste my money & traveling just to expect a disappointing atmosphere in the cinema.

I know you absolutely hate CGI well unless used in the right places but they did have a practical Xenomorph and neomorphs but they replaced them with CGI at last minute and I quote form O'Sullivan "generally Ridley likes to shoot things practically and the replaces them later... I saw Covenant on opening day when I was in highschool and it made me realize something. It's the perfect representation of what the Alien series has become. The sad fact is, the xenomorphs just aren't scary anymore. Don't get me wrong, they definitely are in the original trilogy. But it feels like Ridley Scott doesn't understand what made the xenomorphs effective. Or maybe he does, but he just wanted to make Prometheus/Covenant into cinematic adaptations of his philosophy. If we pick the latter, the attempt at trying to be smart comes at the expense of the horror. It tries too hard to look smart. All of that being said, I absolutely love the cinematography, visuals and tone of Prometheus. What about how Covenant did those things? I don't remember. The film was that forgettable to me.

Jimmy, I really believe you've got it in you to become the tier 2-3 movie analyst youtuber out there if only you put some effort and produced more videos. Your editing skills are basic, but your texts and especially thoughts and line of thinking are extraordinary. Not asking David about what was going on and about the dead bodies AND not wearing space helmets wasn't a nitpick. That was a legitimate problem that brought down the movie. Even if they weren't scientist it only takes common sense to realize that maybe the breathable atmosphere MIGHT have deadly microbes.

the movie is good looking, but the writing was so bad as per the motivations and decisions of the characters. Again we have "scientists" and "explorers" behaving like 9 year olds, like they are not trained for this. And yet they seem surprised when things go bad. Here's a thought, why not have the Company be the one to tamper with the ship and make them crash land or force them onto that planet, not let them make the most stupid decisions ever and break protocol.And about the captain getting impregnated, "oh look it's a strange pulsating fleshy thing, better put my face on it"...... come on.The characters are written as dumbasses every step of the way, and I did not feel to root for them. Heck, I felt sorry only for Walter, and he's an android. You gotta be kidding me. The characters are boring with the exception of Tennessee, Walter, and David of course. But honestly I don't think David was intended to be the sole focus of these prequel films. I think Scott promoted him to God status just because he was the most likable and memorable character in Prometheus. Also having an android made from Earth create the xenomorphs, who's mystery is what made it scary to begin with, is what brought not just the film down for me but also brings down the entire franchise mythology. It flatout ruined the mystery and horror elements. It's almost hard to call it an alien now since despite being made on another world by alien chemicals, it's creation directly the result of a machine that was made by human hands.

So happy to see another vid from you, bud! Awesome work, as well! On a side note, I'd have to say that the whole plot of this movie sorta hinges on the crew of the Covenant not wearing their helmets. Had they had any common sense while entering a brand new, seemingly unexplored world, they would've avoided the spores entering their bodies. In turn, we wouldn't have the chaos that caused the shuttle to blow up, alerting David that there was someone else there. Henceforth, this film, like Prometheus, requires stupid characters to make dumb decisions to further the plot along in ridiculous ways.

That's an interesting video and I mostly agree with what is said here. But there is actually quite an easy explanation for the Alien/Alien Queen statue in Prometheus. While David certainly tampered with the black goo and did his own experiments with it the stuff itself already existed long before David could ever come in contact with it. At the end of Prometheus we even get to see that it is very well capable of creating Alien-like creatures. With the engineers being in possession of the black goo for such an incredibely long time I think we can assume that they knew pretty well what it was capable of. They just chose to use it in a slightly different way than David. At the beginning of Prometheus we get to see an engineer drinking a pretty big dose of the goo which dissolves him and basically uses his genetic code to jumpstart evolution on earth. Later on David makes Shaw's husband, whose name I have forgotten right now, drink some of it as well, though in this case the dose was tiny, just a drop compared to what the engineer drank. Nevertheless it had a similar effect though slowed down, which may be due to the smaller dose. "Mr. Shaw" still had enough time to "infect" his wife before the effects of the goo became apparent. And as we get to see this results in a different effect. While her husband probably would have died either way Shaw's contact with the black goo was different because it had already reacted with her husband's DNA. That ultimately also explains why the black goo can create life as well as destroy it. It simply depends on the way it is used. Now the engineers had millions of years to experiment with that stuff. They simply had to know about the possiblity to create Alien creatures with it. So when the events of Covenant happen it may be new to us as the audience, but I think we can be pretty sure that something like this has been done before by the engineers themselves. We just never get to see it. Now, about the eggs onboard the engineer's ship in the original Alien movie. Of course we have no idea for sure yet if this will ever be addressed in a future movie but it could either be that it happened due to some event after Covenant or the eggs could be there because of an experiment the engineers did by themselves. Now, I have never seen the Alien movie in English but in the German dub, when the crew of the Nostromo finds the dead engineer, they mention that it is petrified. Of course that could refer to the space suit or an oversight by the crew but assuming the engineer's bones really were petrified he must have been dead for a very, very long time. That would hint at the eggs on that ship being the result of something that happened before Covenant. The thing is: we can't be sure because we still don't know if that gets addressed in a later movie. Though I assume it will. And now I've written way more than I initially wanted to. I hope it's an interesting read. Heheh.

Yeah tbh I don't understand the hate for this movie, after seeing promos of 'Predators' firing mounted machine guns for the new predator movie .. I'm skeptical. But at least going in and leaving this movie it felt different, people say they 'knew' what was gonna happen at the end but that's bullshit because there's a moment that's a clear foreshadowing but it fools you. It's mainly the people who didn't have enough interest to watch the 'pre' videos to the movie. David swapped the 'chip' featured on the back of his neck as displayed in one of the 'pre' videos, let's not forget he is an exception to most androids which is why he philosophises and tries to create a stronger and more dynamic xenomorph. Harbouring the embryos in 'huggers' is perhaps a clever way to 'infiltrate' the infection.

Really loved your channel years ago when you were still making the AVP and Terminator series. But damn your opinion and taste really diverges from mine on this one. This film is a total mess and a joke, it ruins so much of what made the original Alien a great film. I really don't get your take on this turd.

the space ship chi looks better than most of the alien cgi. the neomorph and protomorph/xenomorph still are creepy.

One thing that I felt was interesting about the film was that in the final act we got to see the Covenant from the Alien's perspective. Correct me if I'm wrong but no other form of Alien-related media has answered the question of what/how the Alien sees.

The whole scene was ripped off from Alien 3. Then closing doors to lure the Alien in the direction they want it to go as it crawls on the wallls and floor showing us the Aliens view.

Alien 3 showed us its movement, not what it was seeing. Aliens VS Predator (2010) showed us what it saw.
