Life Lessons I Have Learned - My 65th Birthday

Alive at 65 - life lessons I have learned... The most important lessons I have learned in my 65 years 1:59 talking begins....it's my birthday and I wanted to share this little milestone of mine with you. I chat about some of the most important lessons I have learned in my life. I talk about how I had no social skills and had to learn how to treat other people...I talk about my marriages, dealing with grief and if asking for what we want is productive? I know there are a few tears in this video and I had no idea it would be such a heavy video for me to do. There are certain things I have learned that have made my life a bit easier and I wanted to share those things with you...but I also had some surprises and I also realized why perhaps some things were just not in the cards for me. I had a fun trip to Marshalls in this video and you see little snippets of it. I picked up just a beautiful sweater and jacket that I love and a great pair of sunglasses... I was planning on talking about them, but I guess other things got in the way...thank you for your love and it's a true honor to share my birthday with you.

I will be 76 Sunday January 26. My husband passed away last year after 38 years of marriage. Sometimes I am lost. Other times I do my favorite things. Reading all types of books and old movies. I love Catherine Cookson famous English writer so real and won awards. All books listed on Thrifty Books.I keep a journal and post them on San Pedro My Home Town under maiden name Linda Quinlivan... My husband was a Police officer and Detective and I follow True Crime on UTube Mommy's True Crime and True Crime on Dateline. My marriage was not like you describe and I was behind him 💯 and I handled all the money and made our lives less pressure for him. We balanced each other and retired to the mountains in Fawnskin CA. Our son and I took care of husband the last 2 years of his life. After he died I found love and happy notes in pockets and drawers from my husband. Snow and fire place going with a cup of tea and a good book .My husbands ghost in the new chair I bought him months before he died. I had my first dream of him last night. The first night I slept straight through. He got me through it. He was always helpful that way. Your 65 that is a piece of cake. Happy Birthday 🎂🎈 🎉

Happy Birthday, Susan! I hope this will be a very special year for you! I agree, the love you have and share with each other continues even after death. My son passed away 7 years ago this month. He was 39, a singer, a songwriter, preformed in many operas, a teacher for visually impaired children, and the sweetest and most lovable son I could have ever wished for.He touched so many lives in his short time here on earth and was a blessing to our small family. I talk about him often and love to hear others recount fun times and memories of him. I'm a breast cancer survivor, almost 12 years now, and no stranger to adversity, but losing a child is the absolute worst heartbreak. I was blessed to have him for 39 wonderful years, 39 years of memories. I'm thankful for my husband of almost 50 years, my precious daughter, and my two outstanding grandchildren. They all bring so much joy and light to my life.

Loved this segment Susan! I’m 74 and a widow of 2 years and 3 months. “Memories soothe the soul” could be my theme song. I was blessed by being married to my best friend & the love of my life for 31 years. I never knew love until he came into my life. I am still finding love notes he left in my Bible and letters he hand wrote. They are so precious! The grieving process is difficult but the remembering process brings me joy...and even laughter. This video made me cry. I turned 68 on the day this video posted. Lost my husband 3 days before Christmas of 2017 after 42 years of marriage. I'm still shattered. Luckily, my son and two Granddaughters were living with us at the time and still are. They have been my salvation. I was crying til I saw Desi in the sunglasses and there came a spark of a smile. What a beautiful post.......I totally agree that our memories are what holds us together, like the stitching of a quilt. There are older pieces and if you're lucky, you get to keep adding new pieces to the quilt..... I am about a year older than you. I will be 66 at the end of February. I have been married to my husband for 45 years.....he is retiring this summer and I have been retired for five years.... I know it will be an adjustment, because just saying you are "retired" took me a while to be comfortable with. I just want to thank you for your beautiful channel. I believe love is a verb, and the way that you speak, the way that you think, and the way that you present your thoughts and memories... I'm turning 60 in a few weeks and I'm feeling depressed and sad about it because I think my life is not where I thought I would be in life. 2 failed marriages, still trying to love myself. Still trying to forgive myself. Full of guilt in regards to my son. Watching this video today really made me emotional and gave me some things to think about. Those thoughts will help me in growing as a person. You always say something that touches my heart and helps me evolve into a better person. I love what Dorothea said to you....so profound!! Thank you for always touching my heart, you are a beautiful soul. I believe God speaks thru you to help many women out here like me. Dont stop!!

Desi is so sweet. I have a little guy myself...he’s a Maltese and his name is Dylan. He was a rescue that my son got but Dylan required more care than my 23 year old son could give with work and school. My son brought Dylan on his next trip to NY and I know in my heart of hearts that we rescued each other.

Yes the angels! When my mother was at the end of her life in the hospital some old family friends showed up at my darkest hour and the comfort that gave me was immeasurable. Then after she passed away, different angels showed up to help guide me through that part of the process, garage sales, dealing with the legal stuff, listening to me, sharing stories about my mother. To this day I am awed by it and I still feel that comfort. I will be forever grateful to those 'angles'. I hope to be someone's angel someday.
