When i was a child, the Mass was a Holy Sacrifice offered by a Priest, in union with his parishioners, on an Altar. Faith and Piety were nurtured. Reverence was fostered. Prayer was encouraged. What we got now is a new religion. faith, reverence, prayer, and piety have been eroded in the flood of "relevance". We nolonger offer a Sacrifice. We "celebrate" on a table. We worship each other. We listen to the awfulest music with someone blaring into a microphone. No one is able to pray, even if they wanted to, because we have to talk to each other, instead of God.

Father Hardon used to say that there are "pockets" of Catholics here and there, but that most Catholics are Catholic in name, but they dont really know and believe what the Catholic Faith is.

Why don’t you join a live-streamed mass from Indonesia, preferably Jakarta’s cathedral. It’s reverent (at least for me). Most Indonesian parishes, priests etc are pretty much OK and keep a close eye on these type of things. Anyway, kudos for the lay preacher who believes in the real presence.

It's in a black community and he's preaching to a mainly black congregation because that's what the area of Auburn Gresham is. It used to be German/Dutch then white flight and now a difference. It has alot of good community social services like employment offices,food banks,praise teams,youth anti-violence programs as well. Most black people aren't historically Catholic so I guess in a way to save the church/parish he's modifying it to save it. The painting is a black Christ. I see no problem with that. Now,I don't agree with some of the things he's said and done,but it's a way to encourage different communities to Catholicism like the lady near the start explaining Transubstantiation. Maybe she's Catholic? In the end,it's a different group of people in a different kind of neighborhood.

She presented transubstantiation more clearly than is heard in many parishes with no apparent liturgical abuse. I have no doubt there are a lot of faithful people in this community, but they are being misled by their pastor. The Mass is supposed to unite us and not be based on the pastor's personality, but here is unrecognizable to visitors. Perhaps the priest thinks what he is doing is good, but he is forgetting what the Church teaches.

I grew up with the new mass but I have switched to going to the traditional Latin mass but I know that they updated it to the proper translation of “for many”. however, this is why mass in any language other than Latin, unless you’re an eastern rite Catholic, should have never been done. Now I realize that might be different for Africa where they might have to translate into the Local dialect but they can do that for a Bible or they can do that for the catechism but they should not do that for holy mass.

I'm not a Cannon lawyer but the time will come that all this will have to be addressed by the Church. Yes if that is during mass, the dancing , lay preachers , it is liturgical abuse. Why not have that dancing and lay talks after mass? That is what the first Christians did. It's called agape.

That type of stuff would be more appropriate for a church hall following the mass not during the mass. That is why Catholic churches are not like protestant churches and we don’t have coffee bars during mass (This is more common for mega churches to have the coffee bars and have people just drinking coffee during their worship service which looks more like a rock concert than something pleasing to God!)
