Welcome to "Energy efficiency"! My guess is the reason the fridge is wider by 1" is they had to add more sound-deadening! How do I know that? I had to replace my built-in dishwasher last Nov and it was 1" wider than the old one due to EPA's new regs.

When they’re pissing away 130 gallons of water in two days I’m surprised they went with an energy efficient fridge and didn’t find one for the 70s to consume more current.

How's the new refrigerator/freezer working out? Is the freezer frost free? We have the same unit you replaced and are thinking of swapping it for this model. Thanks!

It’s been great. Zero frost in the refrigerator unit. We’ve defrosted the freezer unit once. It wasn’t really necessary but, a can blew up so we had a mandatory cleaning. Pulling out the draw makes it really easy.
