I remember falling in love with the band when I first heard "Don't look back in Anger" I bought the album but didn't really dig deeper. Then one day I heard the last few bars of "Live Forever" on the radio in my car and I immediately stopped by a record store and bought their first album. Then I became completely immersed in everything Oasis for many years.

Same. I heard “Live Forever” on my college radio station in 94’ and went out and bought the album. I’ve only fallen more in love w Oasis and their tunes over my 50+ years.

I heard wonderwall and was hooked… it was the first chart music I’d listened to for years after all things reggae. But I couldn’t afford to buy the album. Then one day I found a cassette in the gutter beside the road and thought I’d pick it up and see what was on it… It was a copy of What’s The Story (Morning Glory) and it was a real gift from the gods

Wicked track, awesome band! Oasis was the first band I saw in concert. In the mid-1990’s I was living in Scotland for 2 years when they were getting big, then saw them in concert around ‘96 back home in Boston. So glad you are getting into them. Nirvana was a great band but they never made me soar with happy emotions like Oasis did! I still get the feeling more then 25 years later as I did back then. Thanks for the reacting, looking forward to more!

It’s one of my favorites of all time, I’m 21 and they are my favorite band. It’s just the connection that the band had with the audience that make me fell in love with the band and their music. Id recommend to listen to the albums in order, that way you see what the band brought to the scene at the time and how the band evolved.

I'm always glad to see new people discover Oasis. I was a teenager in the 90's and they were by far my favorite band. I saw them live many times and I still listen to Noel and Liam's solo stuff. Like you I always loved their attitude and it was perfect in my rebellious teenage phase lol

Thanks Syed, that was great. I have some Oasis, but apart from the hits, never really got my head around it. You're helping me appreciate it. I'm definitely of the classic rock **cough, boomer** generation, and The Beatles are my favorite band. With that in mind, I come down hard in the pro Oasis camp. I like the attitude, and see humor and self-awareness in it. And I love Noel's style. He composes and performs some great records. Great sound. I think his lyrics are more impressionistic, conveying that attitude through individual images and observations. Thanks again, all the best.

this is such a great track, full of emotion, lyrics that emote certain feelings, inspirational but dark all at once. Love Gem's guitar work. Noel is a fantastic writer. There is a video of Noel and Gem doing this alone on stage in Paris - its actually the whole show - and its fantastic with Noel on acoustic and Gem electric, and, oh yeah, the drummer. Great choice. "Slide Away" is also a beauty. Gonna watch this reaction again.

Recently discovered KZbin footage of an Oasis gig I attended in Aug 1994 (two weeks before the debut album release). Had seen them on TOTP (doing Shakermaker) and bought Live Forever the week of the gig. In fact Live Forever was on TOTP the evening of the gig. Interestingly, at the gig (London Astoria), there was no falsetto on Live Forever, as Noel had no mic then (I presume he hadn’t yet started to sing live). They played nine songs from Definitely Maybe plus two other tracks, and were off the stage within an hour. No messing about.

Noel always wrote about the “common man” and “loving life” bc that’s what he was at the time he wrote those first two albums. I’m a few years younger than Noel and I think he’s the best songwriter of my generation. Once Oasis gets into your soul, that’s it. They become your favorite band and they have a massive catalog of great tunes. Check out the live versions bc the studio tracks are a bit mellower than their live versions. This rabbit hole is deep. I’m kinda jealous u are just discovering them. Enjoy! P.S. That outro is amazing! Very sort of Pink Floyd vibes. It lifts the song up at the end to where I need it to be. Also, u nailed Noel’s songwriting in your description…..”simple yet emotive”.

Great band, great track and great reaction. I'm surprised that you've encountered such polarizing opinions about Oasis. I think the worst thing anyone can say about Oasis is that they're possibly a bit derivative - especially if you're an older fan who grew up on the Beatles. But for me, they've got their own vibe --- true songsmiths with a punk sneer. Great stuff!

Everything you said positively gave me great hopes at the time (first three albums). However, like many English hopefuls of the time, they drove with their musical formula and most loyal fans in a musical one-way street. In this song, too, you can see a partly undifferentiated soundscape and the "singing flourishes", which partly started to annoy me. Oasis didn't open up/evolve musically. Then everything boils down to catchy songs, which they have achieved at least and only in the UK with around 20 top ten hits. I express respect to Noel, who is still on the road, seems to be having fun doing "his thing", was the creative head of Oasis; Liam remains a perpetual pseudo rebellious teen, has been saying the same thing, has hate pictures, for years, a perpetual stinker.
@dynjarren8355 Жыл бұрын
This song is annoying the way he sings it. I prefer Cigarettes and Alcohol. But what I really agree with is Lennon will live Forever with his Voice. Noel says he loves Lennon. I agree! Cobain had too much anguish and screaming but a great voice otherwise.
