India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked the country's Reserve Bank to ensure the rupee's global growth. Currently, there are very few global currencies, with the US dollar being the most dominant among them. Countries in the Global South, and those hit by Western sanctions often look for alternatives while conducting trade. New Delhi has trading ties with sanction-hit countries like Russia and Iran, which cannot trade using the US dollar. Moreover, de-dollarisation could also help countries dealing with a crunch for foreign exchange reserves. Amid this, India's bid to globalise the rupee comes with several challenges. As the world's 5th largest economy, how hard will it be for India's rupee to emerge as a global currency? Palki Sharma tells you on Vantage.

Having a gdp of nearly 4 t$ with almost 1.5B population is indeed very very very poor. Obviously india has a huge pool of educated and/ or cheap working population and high degree of English speaking population is a big Plus. India indeed has a decent industrial base... much better in most cases than middle easter countries. So it is a very mixed bag, huge potential and huge obstacles

This is wonderful for Xiaomi. The only problem is, that I will never get a hand on any Chinese EVs, because of US protectionist tariffs. I think people forgot that Tesla's is a subsidized success venture spun from the Obama Administration. Then Tesla betrayed the US by settling its main factory in China where most of its exports affect the global market. They make awesome profit thanks to China and their cars are not subject to steep tariffs. The previous attempts at EV from GM, Ford, Toyota were also a Fed subsidized venture in the late 1990. It went belly up because of the reluctance of these companies to undercut their ICE car sales.

EVs aren't eco-friendly on multiple levels. 1. Biggest Source of electricity in India are still coals. Which isn't clean energy by any means. 2. Disposal of ev battery is very difficult and harms environment extremely adversely. I am for alternative fuels like ethanol or hydrogen or bio-gas.
