This is my new go to channel for workouts. I am 55 and have lifted for over 30 years. I am old and broken. This channel is a great resource.

I use kettlebells. Since I can't do presses like I used to, due to severe arthritis AC joint, I love double kettlebell cleans. I also like the goblet, double squats and farmer carries. I added dead lifts. This seems to be working great for me. I'll be 60 this year, still strong.

Perfect timing. 39yrs and hitting 40 on december. Still in pretty good shape and aiming to be most fit of my life at 40s.

Great advice. I’m 75 y/o and hit the gym 5 times/week, and will tweak my workouts a bit per your advice. Yeah, have had shoulder issues in the past, especially with DBs on the decline bench.

Everytime I do squats, I make sure I do hanging knee raises with as many reps as I just did with the squats. (During my rest/recovery) Decompress my spine and strengthening my core. It seems to be making a big difference in my recovery. Legs are sore, but NOT back! Almost 62 and I'm squatting more than I did two years ago!

Great to hear! We are as old as we feel. We are about the same age. Deadlifts are my thing and I don’t spend my time looking at my cellphone while I do my 3 sets of 8 reps over 15 minutes.

@@backagain5216 I'm amazed how many people spend more time on the phone than actually lifting😏!

Hi Gary, first time seeing your channel. You know your stuff no doubt, I'm 66 and haven't trained for over 30 years but I do know the basics. You explained those exercises exactly right. Question, generally speaking for guys over 60 how many days and how often per body part every week ? Again, this is general as I know everyone has different levels.

Love the trap bar, but it made shoulder issues worse. It took me months to recover. I've been told by many, trap bar is bad for people with shoulder issues. Sumo and goblets are already part of my regime. Loved this video.

Perfect timing . I am currently on a cut and I prefer compound lifts when cutting. My logic is the more muscles you recruit for a lift the more calories you're burning. Not sure if that is scientifically correct but it makes sense in my mind.

Well done video, but I have a slightly different take. I think, unless you have an injury or a specific issue with them, the best exercises to do for men over 40 are the same a the best for those at 20 or 30, which are the ones you like and will be consistent on. Just turned 52 and my strength/physique is at its peak for sure. After 30 years of lifting, I'm now hitting the big 1RM numbers I always dreamed of, and finally getting those rear delts to stand out, lol. Never really had a joint ache. I do think the movements in the video are good if you have a past injury or something, but If you your goal is a 3 plate bench or a 5 plate squat, for instance, you need to do those movements. I work out about 10 to 12 hours a week, using a modified PPL schedule that hits each muscle group hard directly every 4 days. Compounds I usually do in the 3 to 5 range and I try to take isolations close to failure. I do take vitamins and protein shakes, but I'm fully natty, and still hitting my goals. Eating relatively clean and getting enough sleep are also big keys for gains.

I am going to just do heavy traing every other day...on days off maybe some cardio type training and my 360 degree planking routine..at 65 my body cant handle as much training as it did in my 50's and no where near what it did in my early years...for me its about trial and error...i always strive to figure out the best formula to achieve the results i am seeking...over traing is a real thing.

Good training. If you don’t have the proper form you get hurt. That’s why I like a trainer. I have a right shoulder impingement I got trying to do pull-ups. How do you balance the exercises so both arms get worked out?
@Shaggy2023a9 ай бұрын
Should I do these workouts 3 x week 3-4 set of 10,8 and 6 reps each and combine it with 2 -3 days of running? Make it like a hybrid training to keep my cardio training until my next marathon. I like to run and cycling a lot but after 40 we need more muscles for multiple health reasons.

This all is assuming that one has access to the equipment mentioned in this video. Not all gym's have all this equipment, and those who workout at home typically have access to none of it.
