We Climbed Mont Blanc! Gouter Route

We summited Mont Blanc! At 15,771 FT (4807 M), Mont Blanc is the highest peak in Western Europe. Climbing to the summit of Mont Blanc is no easy task - the standard Gouter route requires hiking almost 9000 feet through steep alpine terrain. But the views the entire way, and the exhilaration from standing on the summit of Mont Blanc, are truly unparalleled.

I never doubted for a minute that Elise would conquer her back issue. But what a wonderful experience to make your dream a reality. I think my favorite part was writing a song six months earlier. That alone shows the resolve, the faith, the commitment that she had to recovery. You two are both so physically strong that I know it takes a pretty fantastic journey to find this level of challenge for you, looks like you found it. It may be on a lesser scale but I know the journey well. I am going to attempt one of the most challenging hikes I have ever done in a couple of weeks and although its only 4000 ft of elevation, for me it shares a lot of the same emotional journey. I hope mine is as successful as yours. What awesome weather for this long anticipated event, you were truly blessed.

Just FYI, I pushed my boundaries last weekend and went over the Tetons, up Teton Canyon and out Cascade Canyon. I am not used to packing over 2000ft, so 4000ft was definitely pushing my limits. Such an incredible feeling knowing I can do that. Thanks for keeping us inspired to push boundaries.

Amazing! I climbed Mt Blanc over 20 years ago on the same route and then stopped high altitude adventures for many years. This summer I summited Breithorn making it my third 4000 meter peak. For the last 10 years I've been suffering with different back issues (more or less severe) and wasn't at all sure I could climb a big mountain again. So I can definitely relate. Onwards and upwards Elise, well done!

I think it was definitely both! My legs were burning and felt like they were made of bricks and I honestly didn’t know if they would keep moving. And then the doubt sets in and you wonder if you’re going to have to turn around so close to the summit. Adam was so supportive and didn’t let me doubt myself for too long. I got a keeper for sure. The first thing I thought when I saw the video title - with more than a little concern - was, "They crossed the Grand Couloir!" To watch your transition over the last few years from bushwacking hikers to accomplished technical climbers - has been a wonderful vicarious thrill for me. I can't think what to write - I'm speechless - Mont Freakin' Blanc!. Ever since my first mountaineering class at CSUN in 1979, I've been enthralled with the mountains - and while I can no longer do it, watching you in these glorious videos has brought all the joy of that time of my life back to me. Emily! It was so fun meeting you too -- OMG our legs were sore for two days after that crazy descent. The rest of the trip has been incredible so far -- we're currently in Switzerland and just did a wild traverse high above Zermatt, then in a couple of days we head for Leukerbad to try Switzerland's longest via ferrata. Let's stay in touch, because we should really do some kind of adventure/sufferfest all together at some point! ❤️

Well done Elise and Adam. As someone who is in the middle of a chronic ankle inflamation that has prevented me from doing a lot of the hikes I wanted to do (I even sold my appartment and moved to northern Spain in order to persue my dream of hiking most of the time), I can totaly relate to Elise elation at the summit. The over dramatization 250 feet from the summit is a bit too much because we all know you can acompish everything you set your mind to. but I guess you have to keep the suspense. Next year I hope you choose Spain as your Europian destination (it's a lot cheaper than France or Italy) and that we all be healthy and capable to chase our dreams.

Oh no, I am so sorry to hear about your ankle. I completely understand not just the physical pain but the emotional pain that comes along with having your dreams completely altered by injury and the uncertainty that comes along with it. Is there anything you can do aside from rest? As for the moment before the summit push, I wish I was strong enough right now that I could say that was an over dramatization, but that was a moment when I was experiencing an overwhelming sense of fear and self doubt. I guess it's hard to articulate clearly, but between burning legs that wouldn't move and skipping heart beats I was seriously wondering if we were going to have to turn around. But you are absolutely right that our bodies are capable of incredible things if our minds are strong enough. We would love to come to Spain next summer and are interested to hear some of your recommendations! -E

Even though you two look and prove to be two super beings, testing your body again and again in numerous sufferfests, your humanty and compashion and your willingness to show a little of your weaknesses, is what srperates and keep me an avid watcher of your vidoes. We all (I persume) have those breaking points at one point or another, but the ability to turn them into triumphs is what makes the experience so special. As for Spain: I am an immagrant to spain and bern living here for a year now. Sort of in the perpouse of doing what you are planing to do in your retirrment plan. The Pirenees Mountain Range on the Spanish/France border, as well as the Picos de Europa national park is a great placee to start your research if and when the time comes. But there is beatiful nature almost everywhere. Every type of terrain you can wish for. Via ferratas planty and advanture galore. I would start with Picos de Europa in northern spain. Good luck and take care, can't wait yo see what's in store for you two. I would check

Really happy for y'all! Glad to see Elise back in the game! We had a great trip to California. The Broken Arrow kicked my butt! 26 miles, almost 8400' of gain and 60-70% of the race was in snow! The via ferrata race on Friday was really cool. Saw the sequoias and the bristlecone pines while we were there, amazing! Looking forward to more videos from the alps!

The food options were actually pretty darn good -- soup, muffins, etc. But really expensive -- like $8 for a coca cola! Still, so worth it to be able to get decent food up that high. You should definitely do this if you can -- it is a truly spectacular climb and summit, and we will never ever forget it. ❤️
