Hi med student here hoping to clarify some misinformation.. So bones actually remodel and heal very very well, with no scarring within the bones at all if the cut edges are very well approximated. And yes it will always heal, have you seen a person whose skin never closes up? The catch is that it takes much longer, and building back up the strength of the new bone via calcium mineral deposits will take even longer(months/years?). Think about it, this process is no different from what a patient goes through when they fracture a bone. So assuming that the surgeon did everything right and did not damage any neurovasculature, the only real problem is getting adapted to your new biomechanics and getting the newly stretched out muscles to acclimate to the new length through extensive PT(which I reckon people slack off on). It’s not unfeasible that these patients will regain all of their athleticism if they want to. There’s a reason why stuff like this is allowed, because it’s honestly pretty damn SAFE for how powerful of a surgery it is. “Do not harm”, do you think doctors are actually just knowingly crippling people so they can get sued to oblivion? It likely is just an expensive surgery that works pretty damn well and changes the lives of people who are short beyond the expectations of society. You can be jealous, be angry at the guy for his insecurity, but at least be honest and admit that this surgery is freaking awesome especially since weight bearing fully internal rods/screws are an option now.

Yeah dude, I think you're right... I wanna try it in future. You know, I'm a nerd, and I want to change my habit to be better person, to get girls, marry, and having a good life also confidence. I've been tried improving my life but unfortunately, my genes are the boundaries... My current height is 160 My mom is 150 My dad is 167 An Indonesian. 18 yo Average person in my class is above 160. And for the entire student, it's 170 for young people in indonesia. As a medical student, do you think that I've surpassed the height limit? I'm also not sure that I will grow in the near future since my puberty began about 3 years ago. I've concerned about this, is it possible to grow when the grow spurt is closed? I haven't checked it with rontgent....

A bunch of indoors folks. I hv two friends, one 5'9 the other 6'0 ft. Both are handsome but the 5'9 dude is even more handsome and has a nice build and have been following them long enough, from which I can definitely say girls are more attracted to the 5'9 guy even if he's less confident, heck the 6'0 guy's gf called him very handsome right in front of him. For superficial girls, money comes first, then looks, stature if you're not short but height might come before this if you're short. If you're not looking for a superficial girl tho, just be a proper human being.

I feel so bad for guys that feel the need to do this. The media is always talking about unrealistic beauty standards for women. Height is not a thing. If women diet and workout they can be attractive. For men, height, one thing they cannot change naturally, is the most important. As a 6'5" man I feel so blessed that I won the genetic lotto in this area, but for my short brothers out there, keep up the good fight, hit the gym and make you the best version you can be. And for all the Lizzos of the world whining about women's beauty standards...eat a salad

I think the reason is when you see tall people in movies the camera can pan out from other angles where of someone is short you have to get more clear and level angles. No. The safe range is about 7.5 cm for femoral and 5 for tibia. After that complications increase exponentially. You can eek out an extra cm from the tibia with close monitoring but 13.5 cm is the upper limit. depends if you have the money, the free time, the dedication to get back in shape as you'll lose all mobility and muscle, and the pain threshold to go though all this. It wouldn't be worth it anyway for you because you'd go from being average to slightly above average, your height will almost never get mentioned (sources: im 5'11.5 and no one's ever brought up my height)

Its not insecurities, society treats u like shit when ur short…idk how tall u r but go go Netherlands and live there for a week see if u can get out of ur room. Thisnguy has np doing this im sure but the moment he interacts with other people in his job or daily life and friends is where things get rly bad….depression hits. Im not that short im 5 7 or a but less and i csn only imagine the struggles of being 5 5 ….

To the people thinking of getting this surgery, now is the best time to get this surgery because most men won't do it. It involves breaking the bones and learning to walk again. When the process becomes easier to do with less risk, everyone will do it. Even the 6ft guys will do it. So 5ft5 will be the new 6ft. Don't hesistate get the surgery done, your future self will thank you. Nothing good comes without risk

Now is actually the worst time to get it. It’s in the early stages and these folks are the guinea pigs that will make it easier for those in the future to have this done. The best time will be in the future when it’s safer and more accessible as a whole.

Lol if you seriously think that you are delusional, i am a 6ft dude myself and i am extremely happy with my height, no way in hell would i ever have a surgery on myself were i completely destroy my legs and have to learn how to walk again for a year just to gain some extra 2 inches. It's a waste of time and money.
