Liverpool 3 Everton 1 25/04/1987

One last hurrah for Liverpool in the 1986/87 season, before the league title was surrendered. Everton beaten 3-1 at Anfield with Ian Rush scoring twice to equal Dixie Dean's record of 19 goals in Merseyside derbies before leaving Juventus. The other goals were screamers from Steve McMahon and Kevin Sheedy.

I am 56 and I must say watching this, names like Vanison, gilespie, Ablet, Mcmahon, spakman ,Hooper Molby,Venison, give me a chill. Even More than Rush , Hansen Dalglish and whealan Names I have not heard in 40 years or so. the names of those unsang heros take me back to happier days, even more than those of the superstars of those days. I must admit I enjoyed seeing Sheedy southhall Steven and the rest of the blue gang too.

The greatest atmosphere I've ever experienced at anfield , it beats barca, Chelsea and even spurs 1982, I couldn't hear properly for 2 weeks !

Went over to Liverpool for this, my first Liverpool game after supporting them for ten years what a game and Rush equaled the record

I had a ticket for this game but spat the dummy out and sold it, because we'd lost the league to Everton. I did regret it after such a great match and result for Liverpool. The echo led with the headline 'Life in the old dog yet' and they were right. Because Liverpool became champions the following year and would've/should've done their second 'double', had they not lost to Wimbledon in the cup final.

Yes I kept rewinding that bit. The anticipation of the ball creeping inside the post and the sudden realisation that it was in. I was at Hillsborough in 89, but I will say that I miss the Kop as a 'standing' terrace.
