Lives on the line: WSDOT striper crew recounts intense work zone collision

On September 12, 2022, our striping crew was painting fresh lines on US 2 between Wilbur and Davenport when they were involved in a work zone collision. The striper truck was badly damaged and ended up needing repairs that took more than a year to complete. But lives can’t be replaced. Thankfully, the entire crew was able to walk away from the collision, but a matter of inches made the difference between them walking away and possibly being severely injured or killed. Please slow down and move over in work zones.

I still think about Jake Baardsen, Mike Malone, and others in WSDOT who lost their lives on the grade.

This was messed up. Skilled workers avoided serious injury just in the nick of time. US Hwy 2 is hazardous.

❤ love every person for putting their lives at risk for our privledge to drive. Maybe we take our freedoms for granted more than we think. Shit the roads down to repair them since we cannot respect life. 😢 Thank you WSDOT TEAM! ❤
