I live in a tent full time. You don’t need as much as what she says. Nowhere NEAR. I got a super nice canvas bell tent for like $420 off amazon, but Walmart sells even cheaper ones. Get a wool blanket and propane stove. They have ones that fold down to basically nothing. Go somewhere warm if you don’t want the cold. Non-winter places exist.

Outstanding breakdown. I took off a couple of years ago and wasn't ready for the reality, I had my house in Texas I didn't let go of and had the van and trailer with the Harley. Got too expensive real fast. Back to work now and making a better plan for the next time.

I only use my van for weekend trips I sat down and check. and for me living in my apartment is a lot cheaper a lot more comfortable then living in a van. I would have to give up so much I am not willing to give up everything that I work so hard for. I just had a knee replacement I would be screwed if I was living in a van. So think twice before you go to live a simple life it ends up being not so simple. For me it's not how I want to live my life in a tin box but you might find it marvelous.

There's one at least channel where a guy is traveling and living in a van converted to electric motor and huge array of solar panels that are on the roof and pull out awnings. These will charge the lithium battery banks they have to run the motor and all appliances they have on board. Their range is about 300 miles and the batteries will fully charge in a day or so. So they can go place to place wait to charge before moving on again. Wild free camping . This will be the future once costs to build come down. Kind of like sailing on land rent free no bills.

For over 20 years my wife and I have traveled, usually for 3 to 6 months in the winter. We shut down our house in NH so we don't have to heat it. The fuel and power savings normally cover our camping and travel expenses. Last year we tented and stayed on a 19 foot sailboat we towed behind the SUV. Unexpected vehicle, trailer, and boat repairs blew our budget. It doesn't take much. Not only did we have to spend on repairs, we had to book more hotel nights. Your numbers look about right to me. Thanks for sharing. Happy trails! We are sitting out this year due to being high risk, but can't wait to travel again.

Would not have imagined that much money, but realistically when you accurately add it all up, it makes sense. Down the road when you two are 55 years old, T-Mobil has a smokin deal and terrific coverage. I'm all over the country on my Harley and yeah from time to time it'll through me a curve. But I'm able to send it home if need be, kudos to you two on your journey, thanks for the info.

Greta video! I’m a little shocked is so expensive to live off motorcycles honestly! This has been a retirement dream of mine for several years. Being self employed I don’t really have a pension or retirement unless I pay into it. Maybe you both had better jobs then me to make something like this work. I would absolutely love to ride sometime with y’all for the day! But in all honestly is seems like it almost cost just as much as living at my house with a mortgage? I know you also don’t have vehicle bills which is a great advantage. I recently traded my special edition ram in on a little Jeep Renegade for a payment that’s less the. Half of the ram and double the fuel mileage. I think I would need a huge patron and lots of free camping to made something like that affordable . And even then I’d be afraid my money would drain to fast! Anyways sorry for the ramble I stumbled upon your channel one day a while back and I enjoy your channel more then most of the Moto camping channels out there. Stay safe, love that road glide Richard I have a 2017 road glide special in laguna orange.

Yes, thank you for sharing. When I was listening and heard about the $800 for food the first thing crossed my mind was wow that's a lot. But honestly, people need to think about the fact that you are traveling on a motorcycle and not hauling a REFRIGERATOR on the back of your bike. There's no way to be cost conscious about the food you are buying... definitely no buying in bulk!!! So grocery is going to cost you a lot even if you do a lot of the cooking unless you eat the cheap fast food which is not good for you. So keep up the awesome work. I love the fact that you guys are camping, and I'm one of those weird people who enjoys it when you do food cooking moments.

I'm about to start a conversion on a 1997 Chevy Astro. Yes the nomadic life has expenses, but they are mostly expenses you'd have anyways. Phone bills, insurances, gas, food, and other necessities. The difference, and the reason I'm starting my journey, is that you get to save on rent/mortgage payments, as well as utilities. I work for doordash so i'll be able to work wherever I please, and travel to cities that I know are going to pay well, and that means more money in my pocket. Wonderful video, thank you for sharing.

Comment about “spending too much are funny.” This isn’t a minimal sustenance budget experiment, it’s about the freedom of enjoying two wheels across the open lands & turning off the daily grind. If people wrote down their monthly avg spend for minimal living, they would be suprised how quick they get to $20K annually w/ basic living. At your spend a modest 401K or IRA would get you well past 20 years plus, moral is work hard, save & you have the option. You could live in an studio apartment in a bad city for less, but is that living? Be safe & enjoy, don’t worry about the $ of you have it, ruins the point of being free

A pair of Can-Am Spyders ? An RV and no tent ? A 4WD and a tent? (Heaven forbid...) a return to urban living? A cabin in the woods ?

Many years ago my father gave me a very sound piece of advice. He told me to overestimate my monthly expenditures and to have twice that on hand to manage the unexpected. He also told me to never buy a home that required both my wife's and my income to pay for and finally you'll never get rich buying cars. can you tell he grew up in the midst of the depression? I followed this model and it ended up serving me well. My wife and I could have had a nicer home, fancier car, and better vacations, but now that we are now retired and very comfortable I have no regrets financially. Thankfully my wife, too, was an accountant.

I was going to ask about mail but you covered that. How about physical health? How do you feel living this life-style? Are you getting burned out? How long do you think you’ll live this life-style? What will you do when the fire burns out? P.S. I’m also a big fan of Dave Ramsey. 👍😁

We're trying to live more in the present, but still have some flexible plans if we need to step back into society. We might have to look into workamping at some point. As for burnout, whenever one of us is getting tired we immediately find a campground with more than the usual amenities and just do some R&R. So far that's been a good reset for us.

@@TwoWheelsBigLife Thanks for the response. I guess I'm wondering if this is something I want to do, or just another "whim". You guys make it all look so easy. My luck doesn't always run as smoothly. I was going to go camping to visit a national park. I was surprised at how much it cost to pitch a tent in a campground. Not a heck of a lot less than a hotel. Your food bill is enlightening, and makes me want to check mine at home. Lol. Keeping the bikes maintained is a consideration. If you have the money, it makes it more difficult to cut costs. Is there really any reason to?

When you turn 65 get Federal Park pass for inexpensive camping, also some Federal Camp grounds are operated by contract companies. You may stay for free is you work at the camp grounds during your stay. Federal government is cutting back on camping on public lands due to people who will not clean up as they go. If you are ok with what you spend than I am happy for your adventure. I spend about 500.00 for cross country. Europe is higher, but I like their camp grounds.

I always figured they usually road in groups because someone is going to have a breakdown. Sorry, HD I loved the HD styling but QA was & is not a strong suit for solo riders.

Great video. Yes it's a lot for some people, we though that it would be more. We live in California and this cost doesn't cover our mortgage . So if we get rid of out home and hit the road, we would live like royalty lol. Question...Are your bikes paid off? Although we travel long distances, the longest we've been out is 84 days and we do a lot of camping. However, we budget for hotels only, so when we get camp, its a major saving for us.
