I was homeless for about 2 yrs, took a similar approach to the situation as you. Managed to live quite comfortably in a tent with the bare essentials and basically just walked the country following the coastline and foraging for shellfish. When I got over the shock of my situation I treated it as an adventure, met ppl along the way. Just listened to my body and when I needed a break from walking and carrying everything in my bergan I’d find somewhere isolated I could set up camp til I felt ready to move on.. one thjng I’d recommend to anyone in this position is invest in a sleeping pad, basically a miniature lylo not only will it insulate you and get you off the ground in winter, they are remarkably comfortable for what they are.. and you can find kit on army surplus websites much cheaper than retail prices.. I got a gortex lined sleep system for about £5. New it would have been over £300. Undoubtedly saved my life on many occasions.. videos like this are becoming really important, the explosion of homelessness is scary, especially for white British men who services seem quite happy to just disregard

Great tip on the sleeping mat. I spend a winter in a Scottish forest praying for the sun to come up every night on one of those mats you were praising. I tried to write more of my story but I'm so angry and resentful about what happened it would just be an excercise in hate. It was two years ago now and it feels like it was yesterday. I hope you are doing better now and if you are it is because you helped you. If you are white and male the noone else helped, that a guarantee. Hostels are full of young white males. Desperate is a word you really have to experience.

@@user-bi8gq9df8m cheer bro appreciate your comment. I’m assuming you were royal engineers with a name like sapper! Me too 59 commando til 2007. I agree with your comments entirely, thankfully we have a skill set and experience that are transferable to the situation. But it is scary just how many ex servicemen are on the streets and I’m certainly not the patriot I once was after my experiences.. I have finally got my income entitlement and am saving up to buy a canal boat, something I would highly recommend to anyone who likes the bushcraft/nomadic esq existence. You can get them from approx 15k and also find rent to buy deals that you can still qualify for housing benefit for, but their few and far between and there’s a lot of competition for them when they do pop up.. hope your doing well now mate and are happy

I lived for a couple of years in the woods of Missoula, Montana. Out here you need a latching box/cooler or hang your food in the trees, because of bears, mountain lions, raccoons, & squirrels. My first year we had 4 black bears going through the different camps. Bang two pots together & they normally leave. Luckily no grizzlies where I was. The University of Montana's, in Missoula, team name is the Grizzlies. P.S. If you can, get a P-38 can opener. I've been using mine since '79.

The blow up because people use pans too big, the pan overhangs the gas causing the heat to be directed onto the can. BOOM! Some companies started to make cans that will be less explosive, in North America these cans have a blue ring on the top of the can so you can tell they are less explosive. I use one of those stoves during many power outages lasting days on the same can. It is a lower BTU fuel so use a lightweight pan as it will heat faster.

Chorizo is good as it doesn’t need refrigeration (the type that’s not called cooking Chorizo which does) Great to add to pasta, omelettes, lentils, white beans etc. Tinned white beans with tuna is an easy healthy meal no cooking required. Porridge can be made with evaporated milk which can be stored indefinitely and the lids from Azera coffee will seal the can. Gnocchi also very quick to cook and will store well and easy to just add a tin of tomato’s and some bacon or Chorizo. Hard cheeses such as Parmesan and Pecorino don’t need to be refrigerated. I hope you managed to get things sorted out.

They say, "GET A JOB!" or "Get a Life!". Often peering down their nose in judgement with a cringe face. Sometimes, their inhospitality comes with a nice helping of anger, hate and even violence. Too many folks floating on a cloud of ego and pride. Believing that somehow, they are above it all. "Not me! NEVER!" To some degree I pray thy are right. It would be great to think there are countless folks immune to the possibility of homelessness. The sad reality is that the majority of us are only one or two paychecks away from losing everything. In this day and age (2023 with too many anti-American, anti-oil, anti-wealth individuals in politics), there is a war against the middle class. The working class is finding it harder and harder to make ends meet. Inflation is crushing people across the nation and around the globe. It is driving the cost of living out of the reach of the average family. In 2020, when America was flipped onto its head and all of the progress made between 2016 and 2020 that seemed to everyone living comfortably, a NEW administration began to undo policies that would have brought about financial freedom and comfort to nearly every American at that time. During the Biden years, the Middle Class began to shrink at a record pace. Soon, homelessness became an epidemic and camps began popping up in every major city. More and more people were finding themselves unable to make ends meet. Add in the pandemic, multiple wars and cultural divisions, the American working class appeared to be deliberately under attack by their own government which did not seem to be working to resolve or improve the situation. More and more people have been forced to resort to living in their cars or residing with other family members in order to make ends meet. For those who do not have those options, most end up in shelters or living on the streets. I am a disabled Veteran living on a fixed income with 3 dependents. Over the last 3 years I have had to learn to become very resourceful. My income barely covers my expenses. If inflation and the cost of living continues to increase I will be forced to find alternative means of income. Things are so tight now, we can only cover the expenses. Just bills. Just essentials. There has been absolutely NOTHING extra. That includes savings. It has been heart breaking as I have not been able to do anything for my kids. No trips. No gifts. No toys or fun outings. Nor have I done anything for my wife. No dates. No shopping. Not even a burger from BK. We are barely scraping by and have had to trim any extra BS. From Netflix to fast food or video games. All the extras are gone. Hell even my dog is wondering "wtf?" As I have reduced his feedings to only dry food and no treats, bones or special trips to groomer. I have been on this planet for half a century and this has been the hardest few years of my life. I am currently planning a way to come out of retirement in order to generate more income. Somehow, I will work around my injuries. It is getting to the point where I wont have a choice. It breaks my heart and it is getting harder and harder to hold any hope or optimism. After all these years I am shocked myself to see that any string of bad events could land me and my family on to the streets. God Bless all of those currently struggling and living day by day in this way. Homelessness knows no limits and does NOT discriminate. Do NOT think for a moment that YOU could never end up on the streets.

Good video. I just wanted to share a little bit of information. I learned this from a survivalist and Arizona. If you have a can of tuna without a can opener find yourself a slap Rock and take you can against that rock and do circular motions as fast as you can write clockwise and do that for a few seconds careful put it up and remove the lid. You see you're causing friction and heat and these cans are kept solid and sealed by a gluey substance and when it warms up it will remove the lid. I thought it was a really cool and very useful tip and I'd like to share it with you.. So many of us here nowadays are living paycheck-to-paycheck that this could be a definite reality. To tell you honestly I can see myself living like this simply because I'm taking care of my mom and passes on there's no room for me to stay with other family. But I I'm up for the challenge and I look at it as an adventure. That's why I'm looking at a lot of these videos because it gives you an idea of what to do what to look for what to get Etc

@@TheCheese30 you're very welcome! Trust me there more people in this circumstance then you may think. I've been doing a lot of research in the past few years and over here in the United States that have what's called an RTR Gathering once a year lasts for about three weeks and these are people from all around the United States including Canada and a few others and they all get together and they learn a lot from one another. They give classes that are all free and they're able to communicate and meet other like-minded people who live either in a car, and a van, or an RV or a renovated truck or semi it doesn't matter anyone who's wanting to live outside of the norm whether by necessity or because circumstance or what have you... Sorry even some who are living in the cars because they do in fact feel that they would like to be mortgage free and free of having to pay humongous bills and pretty much working to keep a box over the head. There are many reasons a many stories but the one thing that unites is the passion and the freedom we all share to be self-sufficient. I don't see someone who lives in the woods whether it be in a tent or a Shack or a car or an RV any different. We're all trying to survive and we're all trying to find what's best for us in a society that says You must do this and you must do that in order to be this or be that. It takes a very brave person to live in a tent or in a car or in an RV or in a Shack or what have you and is someone who thinks and lives outside the box and doesn't think or rely on the government that wants to escape that rat race. So I just wanted to say thank you for putting up the video I wish you the best and hopefully someday you can visit the big USA and just to let you know you are definitely not alone! In the US eggs in the grocery stores are washed and can’t be kept un-refrigerated. If you can get your hands on a twig stove (inexpensive), you can boil water and cook a meal with just a few sticks (assuming they are dry). Ramen, canned veg, and canned meat is a college student’s goto meal for a reason. It’s cheap, shelf stable, and quick to cook.

I usually buy eggs by the large 5 doz box. I rub white petroleum (vasoline) on each then paper towel off. Put back in same box in a cool place they last 9-12 mths. Might lose a few, and they may thicken a little from evaporation after 8-9 mths but has always worked for me. The key is to seal the pours so oxygen doesn't get inside.

You’re talking about a homeless person carrying a stove but big tent, a rug all that stuff that’s a lot for someone to lug around 24 hours a day if you’re homeless and if you have money to buy food to cook on that little stove, then you should use that money instead to buy a dollar burger from McDonald’s or go to the dollar store and get foodyou don’t need to lug around the stove because then you have to lug around plate silverware bowl cup all that and that’s just too much for a homeless person to carry unless they want to push a shopping cart and be obvious

necessity is the mother of invention., i guess. i was homeless in canada for the better part of three years. sort of... i packed what i didn't need day-to-day into an unheated storage locker (not the best way to do it) and slept/ate in the bed of my old pickup truck (lorry). cap's windows leaked, uninsulated, un headlined but it worked - private, too, after i got through with a can of white automotive spray paint. 😁 fully employed as a lorry driver: sleep/shower at work during the week. microwave, coffeemaker, hot pot in the sleeper compartment with a diesel heater. dock at the homeyard and "go home for the weekend..." AFTER i used the drivers' room to shitshowershavefreewifi. the way my runs worked all spring summer and fall the cap was FINE but four times over winter it was too much and i had to use flop motels (they were clean enough...). also, the winters were in CANADA. i made it. the problem wasn't lack of work it was finding a place to live i could afford. three years + in a one bedroom and i'm wondering about doing it again this time with much better preparation of a decent bunk and cubbies in the same pickup, a better cap, and heated storage for possessions considering the mice infestation i am coping with... sure hope to hell you're alright now and in something that allows you to stand up, bathe and groom, cook and store food and what few items you really need in your situation. PS i found the 15 yrs of me working as an unpapered chef to have been the single biggest help i had. @@TheCheese30

I use them for camping and to be fair if you use them for around 15 minutes a day 1 can can easily last you around 9 to 10 month's so yea the price is well worth it if you are smart and don't just leave it on all day for no reason

Dont need a stove either. You can use matches and sticks😂. Hey but buy it if you're homeless 😂

It would be stupid to make a fire, a stove is definitely the right way to go so maybe you shouldn't be laughing. It's illegal to have open fires in England on public land, it's also illegal to camp on public land so why would he start lighting fires that will draw attention to him and his camp site? 😂

@@mistertea4487 of course I have been to a bonfire, I do live in the Uk and also illegally wild camp all over for fun. But unless it's been organised and have all the paperwork they are still illegal unless on private land. however on bonfire night there are so many people doing bonfires the police and everyone look the other way, that is not the case when it's not bonfire night, so no he hasn't got to worry about the rug been stolen, he has to worry about been moved from the place he has setup camp and possibly arrested. Also you seem to think it's funny he has a rug, why? Firstly you can get them free from people on fb groups, secondly it's a very good protection from the ground sucking up his body heat, so if he has found a place where he thinks he can stay for a while, why not have a rug, it could save his life in the winter months. Also I don't know if your from the uk, but do a uk news search, it wasn't that long ago when a few homeless people had not just their tents but all their other belongings put in a bin truck and destroyed

I was a chef for 22 years and at this time of me doing this video I lost everything. My home my family my job and my son. I was going to commit suicide but when I ended up in nature it tought me to appreciate things and to not worry what people say or to worry about being judged by anyone. I am now a full time roofer self employed to go from losing everyrhing 4 years ago to now i realised something "Im happy with who im am and proud of what ive learnt" I take it u have never been homeless ? Because if u had then u wouldnt of made this comment. I hope u can hold everything together in your life life throws things at you to see if your strong in nature there is only life a death and i dont fear death i love life no matter how i choose to live it.
