I just use a cooler with ice so far. I kept hummus, plant based milks, kimchi for probiotics, vegan cheese and even frozen fruits for my overnight oatmeal. But I do have to add ice every other day. I usually get it for free a gas station + truck stop. I’m still considering a 12 volt fridge. Sending love 💚

Google just suggested this video, probably since I love car camping. Thanks for the good hints. I lucked into the best car camping setup when a neighbor sold us his old Prius for $4k. (Cheap because it was a salvaged title, but was really in great shape.) It came with dark tint and rain guards (I can't imagine not having them.) But what makes it so awesome for camping is the hybrid battery system. I leave the car "running" almost all the time when camping. I can run the A/C all night and the engine just starts once in a while to keep the battery charged. Even on the coldest/hottest nights it just uses like one gallon of fuel.

You can use a $10 solar lantern to charge your phone and to read by at night. You'll need at least an 1800-watt solar battery if you want to power a mini fridge. As you've discovered, it's best to go tiny or big. Don't skimp on a solar battery than doesn't do all you need it to.

I originally bought a Jackery 240, only to soon realize that it would pretty much only power a fan, my electronics and I tried it on a toaster (it worked!). I recently bought a 2000 watt power inverter from Amazon, and I will be able to power a coffee pot up to a fridge and even a microwave when needed.

5 percent tint on the back windows and the very back is a must. Hell I've sat in my backseat and changed with people walking around outside and nobody could see. On the reflexitx buy cheap black poster board from Walmart or some black fabric from Joanns or something and cover the reflextix. That way it's black and not shiny and silver.

A cooler is definitely an inconvenience with having to change out the ice every few days. Add in food getting wet once the ice melts and it’s a double inconvenience. I’m excited to see what you come up with. Btw, that plug-in is called an AC female 👍

My questions were honest and harmless. Notice that I didn't ask her what 'city or state' she lives in. That would be more "creepy" if it followed by "let's meet up" or "let's go on a date." Stop making every man out to be a bad person.

After a lot of research great advice given. I went with a goal zero 1000x. Alternative : Jackery 500 or 1000. These are basically a must living full time out of a vehicle. And definitely tinted windows at least in the back. I have a Toyota RAV4 so they came tinted in the back windows then I have a curtain so really looks inconspicuous when I need it to be. The fridge is truly something to consider as well. If you’re urban camping I’d say hold off on it honestly, but if you’re boondocking etc then top priority. Overall great advice!!

@@tracysanderssr5037 All depends on how much you are out in the wilderness. The 500 is more than enough if you need it for things like flashlights, laptops, cell phones, etc. but something like a dometic fridge you'd want the 1000 to last you a couple days unless you have a good solar panel. I know you don't want a cooler but I would recommend the Yeti Roadie cooler. It's small, doesn't take up room and easy to dump the water out. I thought about a fridge too. Just curious if since a fridge requires a power source how will your food stay cold when you turn your car off? I looked at the jackery 1000 and it's $1000 dollars lol. You can power a microwave off of that but it has to be an inverter microwave. I have the oven that powers off a 300 watt inverter which works well. I also have a thing that heats soup that takes literally 15 minutes. Im afraid to go too expensive because if I later decide it's taking up too much space then I've lost money.

You need a solar panel as suggested via others. You can get many compatible cheaper versions. I don't live in my car but do part-time off grid camping. I bought solar panels as back up. Best move ever, now I don't pay for electricity when I go on trips. So a solar panel is the way. I wouldn't upgrade your Jackery until you try your 160 with a solar panel with a 100w or 60w Solar panel. If you really are determined to upgrade, the 300 might be better for you if you do upgrade but still get a solar panel. Still small and more power. Or get another 160 with a solar panel. That could charge your laptop and 12v fridge constantly. You could buy a connector to connect the other. Good luck. Do do a video with any upgrades or additions you buy. Stay safe.

You need a bigger battery so you can power a portable fridge? Bob Wells recently got a new lesser-expensive fridge that he's trying out -- his more expensive model broke down. Those smaller fridges are pretty energy efficient, so you might not need a much bigger portable battery to power one.

I was thinking mine wouldn’t have the hookups since I only have three places to plug things and the battery drains so quickly when I plug a big appliance, especially since I’d have to run it 24/7 unless I wanted my food to spoil. Might need a bigger one simply so I don’t need to keep switching things out!

I got the Dometic CF25 that fits right behind the passenger seat on the floor. Best purchase I've ever made for my SUV camper. Scour FB marketplace and Craigslist in popular camping states because they're always being sold for cheap. I live in Tampa and paid only 200 from a FL seller

I was thinking of getting the cdf11 which is even smaller! Once I move to a bigger town I’ll definitely see what I can get second hand!!

@@AlyssaVanilla right on! So from my experience is that once you actually start buying stuff to cook to save money. You won't be able to really store anything inside there because it's so small. Since you're full timing it'll be a little frustrating. Whatever you choose it's soo much better than a cooler

Another helpful thing that packs super small is a "stand up pop up tent" super easy. Helps you shower, go bathroom, change in privacy. Can find them cheap on Amazon

What do you use to power your fridge?

You should just use a cooler that you fill with ice and empty when the ice has melted and refill with ice.

What are people’s thoughts on a mini fridge vs a high quality cooler like a yeti or something?
@laineymcclure
@laineymcclure 2 жыл бұрын
I'm going to get a yeti cooler. Just for saving electricity and I don't think it would be that inconvenient to get a 32 oz cup of ice at gas stations or drive-thrus every couple of days to keep it a little cool in there. Possibly even dry ice would work? Definitely worth it to not use up electricity and I think a mini fridge would be too big and expensive.

@@laineymcclure Yeah I'm definitely on the same page. A good cooler seems way more practical.

I regret my Jackery I have the 240..l researched prior to buying and YT reviews I learn now not to trust..I used it for my nutribullet but it doesn't blend consistently it start n stops and for my portable heater it last on full charge for 5min then dies..to me it's an over priced battery charger for my phone and laptop🤷🏾‍♀️
