"As our stories wear thin, the shell of our old world begins to crack, and miracles shine through" Brilliant, thank you for sharing this beautiful wisdom :)

Thanks for your gift- your old-new ideas, for reminding us of what we already know in our hearts. Thank you for your clear and very human presentation- and I agree, every act (and act of speech) sends out ripples into the whole of LIFE. May you be blessed....

away with slavery, set the people free, not through violence, but through giving & receiving as needed :)

I really like the point about not giving a return gift too quickly. I think this happens a lot at the holidays. When I was a kid, if someone gave my mom a gift, she would fret about needing to get them something in return, often ending up going with an item that was not personalized or meaningful, but a "repayment." This always bothered me and your talk helps explain why. So many of us don't spend time feeling the gratitude of a received gift. I decided this last year that I was no longer going to do "obligatory gift giving." Feeling that I must give a gift because its Christmas or a birthday did not make the gift giving a joyous occasion, but a stressful and overwhelming one. Instead when I find something perfectly suited to the other person, I give it then. Sometimes that may end up being at Christmas or a birthday, but I no longer feel the need to give gifts then.

Hi L00kng, I can imagine how you might feel this way... but I feel Ayn Rand brings gifts, which further the emergence of gift culture... and she did enormous good to my soul and many souls. I say this while being a champion of Charles and being an explorer and cultivator of gift culture. Most of her arguments as I see them were really a case against the State and the use of force... & as I see it the gifts of the State aren't received as gifts by the people, and not much space here to continue

A gift society/culture can only survive with unselfish hearts Our money based civilization has failed its probation A new paradigm of ideas is/must follow A solution that creates a problem is not a solution As money is out of kilter with the laws of the Universe we must have the courage to let it go into the distant night The world is weaning off its necessity -slowly but surely; even slower for some They impasse is fear and greed Money systems has let humanity down and must stand accountable

The problem with so-called market theory is its sweeping statement that all people are out to maximize their self interest &/or money. Not everyone is out to make as much money as they can. Some are. It's true. But the notion that all are, well, is a fundamental flaw in the economic model, as it were.

Funny. I have a degree in economics.. and at the time it all seemed so perfect...alas, I grew up, and widened my reading, and yeah you're right, there are so many holes in the promoted economic models (Keynesian, classical, neo-classical).

Austrian economics is based in the science of praxeology. Ludwig von Mises is someone you'll want to read.

@L00kng I disagree. I can see no way in which this does not resonate with the Zeitgeist Movement.

this guy talks about the mentality that people have for money.. money is not the problem, people are.. no matter what you do if people wont change their "have to" into "want to" it wont matter if you call it a gift, favor or payment.. and vise versa of course..
