My family is Christian and I have multiracial family members(Mexican,White(aunts married uncles), Puerto Rican, Russian.) My parents were the first African American couple to adopt a girl from China(now 10 yrs old), though it was on newspaper in TN, in China it was praised. I think its ok for those of different races to marry. My gf is Japanese/White(also Christian) but most people think shes just Japanese.

This is very helpful! Love has no color! There are many nationalities, but only one race…the human race. I love how God works! Only He can make differences compliment each person! I love that the only thing you had in common was you values, morals, faith! Just speaks volumes as to the importance of God in our relationships! I imagine it was difficult to have mom & dad not accepting of the person God has predestined for us to love. I don't recommend "interracial" marriages or discourage them. I recommend finding the person God has for you and if that means and "interracial" marriage that is great. I married my wife because of her character, personality and of course physical attraction is there as well. I married a person not a color. We didn't marry to make a statement, but we realized that in getting married were making a statement.

I've been black all my life and I've been the only black person @ work/school etc. So I'm used to all the stares and stereotyping and bigotry. I have thick skin to it. I think the non-acceptance on her family's side might stem from a possible overlooking of tradition. The Yoruba and Igbo of Nigeria (as well as most Africans) go through important traditions such as knocking on the door and dowry. In the West this is seen as backwards however these measures are considered very important in African culture/society and my advise to anyone wishing to marry an African lady is do your homework and don't skip any tradition. Do everything and her side will bless you.

I recon people do look at us a little longer. But the truth is, if I see an interracial couple I look longer too. My daughter probably likes the extra attention. The other day she explained to someone at the park, "my mom is brown, my dad is beige, and my brother and I are golden brown". The lady said "it looks nice" and my daughter went bouncing on her way. I do think their is an extra challenge in teaching mixed race kids about identity, but it can be done and has advantages as well.
