You've brought back fond memories, fishing in Montauk. I may not know your fish but I know a good fight with a blue. It took ten minutes I recall to get that fighter in. And we weren't trying for that and it was hooked on a small porgy hook( porgies are money fish for the commercial fishermen). They flip and flop but there is plenty of bling coming in several at a time. I would love to go out your way, try it your way. I miss the "life". When Cap't Greg passed, he rocked Long Island, a sad time. Many felt it happen and it was written about in the East Hampton Star. I miss him too, best ever. Thanks for cheering me up tonight, it was grand.

Nice salmon & crab. Food fit for a king.......and queen! You mean you have to get out of the big boat’s way. If you were a sailboat, he would have to yield to you. 😂 I was on an aircraft carrier & it had to yield to sailboats, as we were going in & out of harbor. We got to go out on a day cruise & watch the planes take off, land & do touch & goes. It was awesome! I hope y’all catch lots & lots of salmon, crabs, halibut & whatever else you can catch. Do you ever cut out the halibut ears? They are ivory & people make jewelry out of them. My mom said she brought some back from Alaska, but we haven’t found them since she passed away. I wish we could find them. I would love to make some earrings. Y’all stay safe & healthy. Blessings, Love & Hugs from Vicki in Ft. Worth, Texas 🇺🇸👍❤️🥰🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Another great fishin’ ‘n’ crabbin’ trip. My theory is that because you harvest your own food mainly through fishing, crabbing, hunting and growing your own veggies, you’re more in touch with nature and appreciate it more. Good to show the rest of the community who’re not able to do that for their own, where the food actually is coming from. That it has eyes, it wriggles, you have to kill it and the process it also. I like it from catch till nomnomnom!

With more of the place getting setup for an easier time a smoker would be a good thing to look into but remember to look at issues other have with them so a way to slide what you are smoking out of the chamber for removing/filling or for when it is time to add a glaze or rub to them to avoid needing to work in the smoke. As you have mostly pine trees you may need to look into hardwood pellets if they have them in town as the smoke source but it is easy to look up how to make a pellet smoke generator so you get a cold smoke for the process. You don't even need to do much for a smoker as a simple roofing tin box with some rough posts for supports would work and simple square stock tube that can slide inside a slightly larger section can be used for a pull out shelf with a stop to hold it up when loaded down with fish/meat to smoke.

I have recently started watching your videos and l have a couple of questions. Why is Diana called Diana when her name is Lulu? When you come back from main land, why don't you drop items of in front of your cabin and then take boat around to where you keep it? In regard to the comment you had about being off grid, l always thought off grid was like in the old days. You only have open fire for heating, cook over fire, use lamps for lighting, no modern appliances but maybe that's to the extreme. I love watching the Woodstove Wednesdays. Look forward to watch all the videos and ant new ones. Regards Sharynne Burton Australia.
@AnAlaskaHomestead3 жыл бұрын
Great questions. My wife’s name is Diana but here nickname is Lulu. The reason we don’t unload in front of the island is because of large boulders under the water. We don’t want to hit any by accident. We get the “your not off grid” comments a lot. There is a misconception of what of grid means or there are several different definition of it. The dictionary basically says it’s when one is not connected to the city power grid. Since we don’t have power, water or sewage from a city we call it off grid. Another off grid meaning is when someone doesn’t want to be found, “I’m going off grid for awhile”. Hope that clears up a few things. Thanks for the comment.
