Hi Taz, I literally am broke this month so I’ll give you some of the tips I’m living off at the moment. I’d recommend for checking the reduced stock if it can be frozen. Macaroni cheese etc tend to be really good for being frozen and they have to still sell these ready meals before their best before date so if you get them, just freeze them over night and most of them have frozen microwave instructions. Bread can usually be frozen and you can actually toast it under a grill from frozen (I’m not sure about a toaster with water). If you make pasta dishes like that, refrigerate leftovers and have it for lunch the next day (if that’s allowed). Soup is usually really cheap. Maybe put soup with pasta if it works out cheap? Hope this helps - Sophie x

Biggest tip for anyone who actually need to live like this: portion out the bread and freeze it. You can put it in the fridge the night before to let it defrost overnight but it won't be mouldy by the end of the week so if you manage to get a huge stick of bread like that then qt least you know how to make it last the week

I don't know why so many people are against videos like this Taz and I appreciate you and that one guy you suggested to watch from your other video. For me this teaches sustainability in so many ways and on so many levels. But it also shares with us the lack of nutrition available to those that do not have the money to spend and can open the eyes of the masses to make things like fruit, protein and veggies more attainable and inexpensive for them. I also think this shares how we can help others whether we have to live off of $1 a day or not. There are so many resources out there and our job is to be a blessing so that others are blessed. Thanks and bless.

I'll be honest, as a disabled person who, after rent, bills, and health related costs are seen to, really does have to live off only a few cents more that what you allowed yourself a day here (equivalent in the US at least), I'm glad you did this. It brings awareness to how hard it is to live with such a low income. Doesn't show the long term health effects but NO ONE expects you to risk damaging your body to prove that point. Only thing I wish you did was mention near the start that it can also serve as a good example of how people on fixed incomes sometimes have to survive. Also, sometimes I can't even cover all my health related costs when my health decides to really give me hell! How do they think that little is enough for a disabled person? I only have internet because my housemates cover that for me, knowing that being mostly home bound means I rely on the net as my window into the outside world so much. This "challenge" (more like experiment really) could actually make for a GREAT awareness project for what those in poverty and on a fixed income have to go through. We really don't get enough to survive as (at least somewhat, as everyone's case is different) independent adults and we have a higher cost of living than a healthy person because of the out of pocket expenses our health can cause us, just to really rub salt that we can hardly afford into the wound!
@girlysoap90315 жыл бұрын
Stay strong!! You can get through this 💕💖💜💗💙💛 Also if possible you could try an app she's tried on this channel called "too good to go" maybe? Its when a company has food to spare so they sell it for wayyy less than it was to save it being wasted and you just pick it up from the store? Its not like leftovers and scraps it's actual meals but they're just like £2.00 or something
@floofthebird5255 жыл бұрын
@@girlysoap9031 Sadly, there's is no end to this so I can't get through it. My health is just going to get worse as I age so I'm pretty screwed on that front. All I can do is try to survive it as long as I can until the lack of ability to afford tending to my health and needs kills me. But that's the USA for ya! If you're not a rich, white old man, then ya don't matter! Sadly that app doesn't seem to be available for the US but, even if it was, it's incompatible with my cheap phone, which is the best I can afford. Trust me, I went looking for apps with anything that can help in my area, sadly some places just don't have a whole lot in the way of help for the non-elder disabled. It's like they forget that younger people can be worse off than a 90 year old if said younger person was unlucky enough to develop a bad enough condition or suffer the right (or wrong as the case may be) injury. And this is coming from someone who has seen 90 year olds with more mobility and less pain and health trouble than I have when I'm only 31! But no, I'm young so it can't be that bad, right? They can't possible need assistance programs for us too, right? UGH! . . .Sorry just, I eat one meal a day and haven't been able to afford my meds for months, and the government thinks that is just fine and it really pisses me off. Especially with so few places to turn for help that would be worth the pain and hell getting to that help is going to cause me. Be great if there was a service like that app where I live but, lived here 7 years now, been looking and there's just, well, nothing unless you're over 65, a veteran or a mom fleeing an abuser with a kid, which they need the assistance too, you will never hear me speak ill of those folks getting that assistance, but we disabled people are in situations that are just as bad, sometimes worse, with a lower income than most in the elder and vet groups and don't get the same help, that is what gets under my skin. We disabled folks are always just an after though to this community.

@@floofthebird525 Your comment really inspires me to help people like you someday.
@floofthebird5255 жыл бұрын
@@dinaf.k5372 I'm glad you wish to help. Really, an important part of that would be making people aware of the problem. You would be amazed how many people are shocked to learn that I live off of $9,492 USD a year when the national poverty line is $14,380 a year. People, legitimately, do not know how little we survive off of as disabled adults. Sure, my disability amount will go up once my last caretaker before I turned 18 dies, but they expect us to remain with our families and leach off of them until their deaths. I've actually had someone at the disability office tell me this themselves. When I asked what someone like me should do, as someone who is disabled due to the abuse that 'caretaker' subjected me to, I was, literally, told "Then find someone else to take care of you." yeah, I wish I was making this shit up. So, pretty much, if you're disabled, your family is not safe or cannot support you and your last caretaker is still alive, then you live well under the poverty line without reasonable options for additional income. Their rules for working at all are incredibly strict and they deduct any reported pay you get from your work out of your benefit check. So you're straining yourself to work and don't even get the perk of a closer to livable income for it! Plus many don't have enough health to jump through those hoops in order to work any amount in the first place. So yeah, do some serious research, help make people aware that this is an issue. Look into how many cities have resources that are available to someone just on the basis that they have a disability. You may be shocked to find how few resources there are that are actually accessible for someone who only needs help because they are disabled. I say actually accessible but, truth is, many of those resources aren't accessible to those with serious disabilities, and we can't afford to pay someone to help. People love to point out subsidized housing, not realizing that's a five+ year wait list in most cases when someone needs a roof over their head ASAP. A lot of those resources aren't anywhere near as available as most people think they are. I'm honestly still flabbergasted that there's so little awareness of this problem. I have had many people treat me like crap because they thought I was getting something like almost two grand each month, not realizing that, no, I don't even get $800 a month! And in case you're wondering, yeah, every single one has felt about two inches tall upon learning how much I actually survive off of every month. It really says something that I've gotten reactions of shock when people learn my actual income a few hundred times in the last 14 years.
@dinaf.k53725 жыл бұрын
@@floofthebird525 Sadly, I don't live in the U.S. But I will try do some research in my country. I've had a family member who died from a disability. Perhaps that is why I have soft feelings for anyone who goes through it. I guess I also feel bad for other countries who are in poverty or going through an ongoing war. They also deserve awareness as well.

If you want an easy home made meal, I recommend chicken pot pie. You can use a lot of pre-made ingredients, like a can of veggies instead of fresh, or store bought roast chicken instead of raw and making it yourself. It's more expensive, but faster and less messy. First, you're gonna want to put a can veggies in a medium pot along with some chicken (or whatever meat you'd want) cut into small-ish pieces and add a can of cream of chicken soup on medium heat. You'll want to do about a can's worth of milk as well, depends on how much sauce you'd like. I would put in some slat, pepper, sage, a tiny bit of thyme, and a tiny bit of cayenne. You could also add cheese, that'll thicken it a bit and add some more good flavor. Adjust the seasonings however you like, I recommend adding small amounts at a time until you have what you want. Once everything's all hot and how you'd like it, dump it all out into a baking dish and put store bought biscuits on top. Stick in in the oven for whatever temp the biscuits require and take it out when they look done. I've been making pot pie since I was 11-12, it's really easy and really good. The most complicated part is finding out what spices you like best, but you can make it super simple with just basic salt and pepper if you're intimidated. It'll still turn out like good comfort food :)

I love that you did this for an entire week. Our little fam of 4 live on the equivalent of $1AUD per person per meal per day, and by no means do we starve. We do a farmers market shop, and then basic dry goods from whichever shop has them on special. We avoid packet noodles and try to fill up on dark greens and other nutrient dense foods such as lentils that are also super yummy! Cook everything from scratch, and buy fruit and veg in bulk from markets rather than supermarkets. Get creative with meals and really enjoy the cooking process :)

In Australia you would literally get a chocolate bar or a lollipop for a dollar (pound). Nothing else 😂 the first day, bread, pasta and sauce your getting all of that for under a dollar here it would cost like $5 at the least if your damn lucky... it would probably be out of date for even $5 omg

Well done for giving it a go! I lived on £1 a day for two weeks, last Christmas, to raise money for the Trussell Trust - it's called Living Below the Line. It's ruddy tough, everything has to be weighed, measured and accounted for, and you couldn't have as much as you wanted, whenever you wanted. I found that it really impacted my mood, and how I felt. The first night I did it, I fell asleep watching TV (I never do), and the morning after I did not have the energy to run to the bus, I had to walk. I still worked 6 days a week when doing the challenge and by the end of the challenge I had lost 4.5 kilograms. I think that if you have to live on £1 a day for an extended period of time, it would really impact you, it's supposed to be living, but it's more like surviving...
