Living on 15 dollars per week may sound impossible, but you're about to meet a Filipino family of four that has made it a reality. With a home high in the mountains, and farming a small plot of land, these folks have redefined minimalism - and live with smiles on their faces. Living on 15 dollars per week may not be easy, but it brings its own rewards!

Never say never Pea! 😄 I would encourage others to consider Pea's Patreon: - Firstly, in some small way it makes it possible for Pea to visit people such as the family in this video and never arrive 'empty handed' If you've seen Pea's Xmas videos, you'll know what I mean. (If you haven't, you should!) Secondly it makes her travel possible to destinations to make the videos that you all watch. Thirdly, (and as harsh as it may sound), with 215K subscribers and 1000's of comments, it is probably not humanly possible to read and certainly reply to every comment posted here. I know for a fact that she wishes she could, but it is an impossible task. As a patron, I have never made a comment, or sent her a message which wasn't replied to within 24 hours. (She shouldn't, but she does) If you want Pea's 'gold service', or just to help her help others, ... Patreon is a really good option.

It looks great from the sunny side of the coin, we need to see the other side to really decide if we could manage this lifestyle. Is life so wonderful during rainy season, during typhoon? Are there any venomous snakes to worry about? Living with mosquitoes? It looks great during a 20 minute clip but life is surely much harder 24/7 365 days a year.

@andreasmuller693 Not always! On the island there were many folks who had lived in Honolulu, LA, Singapore, Tokyo etc, but had CHOSEN to come back. When asked "why," the most common replies were for the connection, the peace and quiet, the fact that there aren't bills, and for their kids. Successful folks choosing simplicity. I'm not trying to say that there aren't people who are trapped into a simple life by circumstances, but to argue that it is only that goes against the evidence. Often when we imagine that others would live/act/think just like us if they could, we're really just trying to convince ourselves that our situation-with its stresses, difficulties and problems- is worth it.

I just love the Philippines. I've been there a few times and am planning to come back there again within a month or so. This was just a magical video. What a beautiful piece of land. I felt like it was a movie set. Just such beautiful people. I can't even tell you how much this represents the beauty of the Filipino people in every way. From the humbleness of the parents to the authentic smiles of the whole family. To be honest, when the daughter smiled while swinging on that swing, it brought me to tears. The whole world is toiling for more and more and yet these people, in their so called poverty, are the richest of all. I've thought of retiring in the Philippines but there's always that thought of I need more money to do so. Videos like this make me realize that maybe I need less to retire, not more. Thanks Pea for this beautiful insight into the real Philippines. What a touching experience. :- ) Im curious what part of the Philippiens this was filmed in?

Miss Pea, this was a wonderful tour, of a very happy farm family. They are happy, and a great family. Thank you for being so generous to them for the time you spent from their everyday life. Everyone was excited to show us the life they live, and how you can survive without all the modern things that many these days could not survive without😊

Thank you for putting out content that shows the rural self sustaining part off the Philippines. So many people are misinformed about poverty worldwide. I have seen similar situations throughout Central and South America and on many Caribbean Islands. Haiti is the poorest. The big difference is the attitude of the Filipino families. I do hope all of the kids can finish school and break the cycle of the farming lifestyle. My family started by farming in the USA when the government gave sections of land in the Midwest that got as cold as 40 degree Fahrenheit below zero. And yes the CR was outside and there was no electricity. In the summers they grew corn and wheat and had a huge garden to eat fresh vegetables in the summer and canned them for the winter. They hunted for deer in the fall to make dried venison and had a root called for storing meat. They also fished year round. In summers berries and mushrooms grew wild. This was my great grandparents lifestyle and my grandparents until.the 1950s. This was the same for many families coming from Europe that had nothing when they arrived. Hopefully the Philippines will evolve soon.

Recommend using clover as a cover crop with the corn. They grow well together and the clover will keep the nitrates in the soil at optimum level for the corn. I wish I were able to provide these people with a small solar panel so they could have a simple light at night.

Enjoyed that one Pea. My father whom is passed now was in the pacific theatre in WWII. He would tell me about people that lived just like this. Of course it was when I felt bad about not having something that a neighbors child had. Even just his first hand knowledge has helped me through life and when I envy someone else i think of him. And people like you showed us still happy even though they have so much less. Thank You.
