Some people in the comments are acting like they've never had a fallacy moment of irrational anger. This is a flip side of relationships. He recognized his overreaction and apologized for it. It's all about the betterment of oneself. It's awesome to see you guys got through this, no doubt from past experiences. Thanks for sharing.

Shawn, wt ? Allow!?! I'm a the captain of my boat and am particular about how it's cared for but really. Elizabeth worked really hard and was very careful about protecting the boat and securing things properly. The whole point is that this is a ride. What do you want to remember from all of this. Let go a bit and enjoy the moment. Elizabeth did nothing irresponsible here but you did. I appreciate that you were both willing to share this. A life and relationship lesson.... for everyone. I love the preview "and I earn some brownie points with dino." I think dino may become a code word in your relationship. Love the Q&A.

Hi guys- Well, I'll admitI I was a bit surprised by Shawn's reaction to your boat decorating endeavor. Not what I expected- But, I'm happy to see, and fully expected , he'd come around. Us guys sometimes forget what's important and what's trivial in this life. Elizabeth, I applaud your openness... Great episode! Thanks for sharing... Life is (still) good~

The decorations were great and it was a wonderful idea. I expected a sour response but it was actually, really off the charts, negative!. The ultimate solution in Washington, a Community Property State, is to paint a line down the middle of the boat, and take control of your half.

Shawn may have been grumpy about the lights and green "santa." Disappointing after all your work and excitement; however, Elizabeth, I think you have a real gem. To fix the cut string, put all the lights back, with a nod to the green santa, takes a real man. Not many men would have the grace to do that -- and on camera too!

@ Norma Mimosa...you mean like saying "sorry." Have to disagree. "Sorry" is just a cop out. He was in full control of his criticism. He was in full control of the wire snippers. As i commented, it's up to him what his future actions are like towards her. As a male I see a bit of me being played out. With the advantage of hindsight I can see how i was responsible for a breakdown in a 23yr marriage. That's why I'm taking her side. Atb for 2021.

Normal couple stuff. Elizabeth was having fun and knew Shawn was going to have an issue with ALL the decor. Nothing more than a funny prank. This would totally be me after being stuck on the boat alone in rainy Washington, bored and getting into trouble while my hubs was away. But, they worked through it, compromised, and moved on. Elizabeth, I think your decorations looks AMAZING but sad to see you were the only boat lit up! Maybe you'll inspire the other boats to decorate! Love your channel, Shawn and Elizabeth! Keep it up with all the great content and inspiration!

I'm with Shawn, I get cranky after a long flight, great kudos to Shawn for re hanging everything, great video very open and honest, it can't be plain saling every day of the week, there's bound to be a few peaks and troughs when one has a bad day, sometimes you have to bow to someone else, that's the time to go have a glass of port to enjoy together. Sometimes being stern with your other half is important.

There is a really valuable relationship lesson for men in this video. When your lady takes the initiative to do something for you and you think it's a really bad idea or there are issues she just didn't figure out, take a deep breath, or a walk, or whatever, remind yourself this is the woman you love and be KIND. Men supposedly have fragile egos, but women can be deeply hurt in these situations by an irritated/careless remark.

Fun Christmas lights! I’m glad Shawn came around. Sorry for your tears and all the drama. From my years of marriage, I’ve certainly learned that when my wife starts a redecorating project, it’s best if I stay out of her way! I’m not sure what would happen to me if I did what Shawn did. The comments are even more amusing than the video. Proves why reality shows are so popular...comment on situations you know little about...regarding people you know nothing about...reflected in your own failures and questionable expectations... Ive been married 32 years to someone I am still trying to deserve. Moving on a boat full time would definitely challenge us as well, and even if this situation played out in one take, each party always has some responsibility for the outcome. If nothing else, the scenario should warn people of the possibilities ahead when sharing a small space with another. No doubt it takes grownups to work through such issues.

Marriage is all about give and take. I had a friend whose wife went to stay with her sick mother for a month, and in that time he remodeled the entire kitchen, including new appliances. He did the work himself. It would have cost him $50K if he had someone as competent do it. When the wife came home, all their friends had a surprise unveiling and the wife was livid. She didn't like it at all and actually mocked the work. On face value, her reaction was totally unreasonable and over the top, but in the coming days she revealed to her husband that her mom was going to die and there was nothing that could be done. She was destroyed by that. Nothing was going to life her spirits up knowing that. And in frustration she just acted out. Yes, unreasonably to those that witnessed it, but to her, a new kitchen is the last thing she wanted compared to what she was about to lose. Things need to be seen in perspective. Did something happen during the time he was away? Was it so bad that the only thing that could settle his mind was,

Hey mr fixit cool your jets. My wife and I have been four season boaters longer than we’ve been married (35 yrs). What a Debbie downer you were at you wife’s gallant efforts to provide some holiday cheer for your return to the boat. I would think a return to a beautiful boat with warm loving arms and a cheery attitude to greet you would put a smile on your face and a glow in your heart. But nooooo! I quest you like it better in plasticsville. And after you rip the decorations down a mute apology to repair and relent some is so weak of an apology. You have what others dream for but seem so poor of spirit and cheer. Shit man cheer up life is wonderful if you let it. Appreciate your wife and show her you do! You didn’t even push her on the swing; are you nuts. Romance boy! The purpose of life is to nurture life. Start with those most important to you. Good luck. I’ll be watching for public displays of affection.

I just watched both vlogs about the lights. Elisabeth worked so hard to not only surprise Shawn but also to actually hang the lights and she was so proud that she did it by herself, to bring holiday to the boat and some happiness in the time of Covid, which is hard to come by. Shawn drained it right out of her and it was so unnecessary. I have noticed by watching these vlogs that Shawn shows little warmth and affection except for the dog. He walks ahead of Elisabeth all the time I have never seen him hold her hand or put his arm around her. She is sweet and seems like she is always trying to not piss him off and trying to do everything right on the boat. Shawn seems like a boat Nazi. Elisabeth you need to remind him that boat is half yours, and if your half wants the damn light then so be it! He came around eventually but by then the joy was gone.

Hi Shawn. I've been watching your videos on the tv for some time now but just had to go PC so I could smile with words on this one. Too bad about the differences over the decorations, but hey man, that is, sadly, a function of two great thinkers co-habitating. I'm not surprized you acquiesced in the end once over the travel blahs. If you guys did not show the bad with the idealic lifestyle, it would be fake. Good question about the engine hours. In fact, all good questions. Rebuilding the boat engine, as you said, can be done on the spot, and in the trucking industry at least is called an 'in frame'. I have just a few years big truck experience. It's not abnormal for a well looked after big truck engine to last over one million miles. From my experience, most engines have a sweet spot. Truck engines have about a 300 rpm sweet spot and probably the same with all applications. That is fuel economy and torque. You probably know that gas engines and diesels are far different cats. Over-reving a diesel often just throws fuel out the stack, clogs the rings, valves and injectors, and ... damages your pocket book. Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit and others all do have optimum rpm., mind you varying. I guess the prop is adjusted to hit that spot. Varying the engine speed avoids wearing grooves in the sleeves, same as any engine. You may have already known this, but so much for my two cents. I enjoy watching you two and envy your work on board lifestyle. I'm retired so that adds other complications, including the better half's wishes. Be safe. Hi, from one hour north of Toronto, Canada. John. BTW ... Merry Christmas to you both.

Many people watch your channel because of their interest in your boat and trips around the PNW. Which I enjoy watching as well. What amazes me most is the relationship you two have. Living in a relatively small space with very little private space would stress many relationships. You two have found a way to beat that challenge. On the surface it would appear Elizabeth does much to accommodate Sean’s idiosyncrasies and OCD tendencies. But you two are obviously in love and in simpatico. Love has a way of making coping with difficult traits feasible. We all have our down days and this video shows Sean having a real cranky day. Which I’m guessing he regrets. You found ways to make amends and move forward without getting too hung up with your bump in the road. Many a couple could learn from this. It takes a lot of courage and confidence to document and broadcast a difficult moment in a relationship. But it’s insightful to see the good, the bad and the ugly and how you guys navigate a rough patch. Sean I’m sure you know just how lucky you are having Elizabeth in your life. And Elizabeth you obviously love your guy and he brings you much joy. We all learn as life goes on. You two have a very Merry Christmas and keep those lights shining throughout the holiday season.

Lady you are too nice. Words like approved and disapproved have no place in a couple's vocabulary. No I would never show more affection towards any material possession than my wife. He needs to grow up.

So you surprise him, when you know he doesn't like surprises and when you know he is always a little crabby when he is returning from a trip and you are surprised he's not happy???? 10's are shocked when he's not happy. You bear the vast majority of responsibility here, IMO. As my wife loves to say "You plant peas, don't be surprised when you get peas."

I really enjoy the short hops you make to different locations vs a long drawn out sail. There's so much to see along the US/Canadian coast lines east & west. Thank you for your commentary.

Well well well. Im glad you guys found some resolution. I love dynogate.. I can remember getting upset over something like that. As I've gotten more senior I appreciate what people do for me a lot more. Even if I don't fully enjoy it. The boat looked great Elizabeth. Another great episode..Stewart island probably has septic tanks with drain fields. Not a city thing but very common in rural areas.

Sewage is generally handled via septic tanks and a drainage field. Usually you can tell where the drainage field is, its the green grass in the deep of summer.

Elizabeth, thank you for your spirit in dealing with hubby's hormonal rant.. He has unfortunately dropped in my estimation somewhat, especially knowing you were recording and were genuinely excited. Obviously he hadn't the best trip at work, and still does not know to leave it all at the dockside. Anyway you both took the vows and know how it works. Hopefully you both didn't "let the sun go down on your wrath"...stayed up and argued all night!. Lol. Greetings from North Ireland.

I vote for the Christmas lights. I get the Shawn on the lights and etc. , BUT it is Elizabeth home and 1/2 her boat. I put up lights for many years for the wife in rain, snow, sleet. Elizabeth did it herself (good on you girl!!)

Good on you, Elizabeth, for standing your ground, and good on your husband for doing the honorable thing and taking the time to fix the lights he cut and putting them back up, and then meeting you halfway. I got the vibe that he realized that he was wrong, and realized how lucky he is to have such a fabulous wife. Even in the best of friendships/relationships/marriages, people occasionally get annoyed at each other and have fights. It's the way we humans are wired. I'm so glad your rough patch passed quickly. I admire your patience and obvious respect for one another (non withstanding the expected occasional turbulence), and your love for Mr. Sully. :-)

Nice video work! The light house is also the most Northwestern part of the continental United States. :) I like the island as well. Enjoyed chatting with you at Roche. You're both as nice in person as your videos. I noticed Dino went down Friday morning at Roche. I'm guessing the winds prevailed. :) Keep up the good work!

Not one to take a side in a couple’s argument, but since it is public, I must agree with Shawn...Every year I end up with more house maintenance chores as a direct result of Christmas lights. However....Shawn, dude, Happy wife=Happy life!

Obviously Shawn was cranky from his trip, give him a break, he was wrong but he came through in the end. If he gets out of hand again, just throw him overboard. LOL. You guys are great! From Toronto.
