Join us as we start the renovations on our 1-bed maisonette flat in Slough, near London. We started with the living room... First job was the rip out the carpets and see what was underneath. The retro electric fireplace had to come out too.

Renovating old houses always gives surprises. Layers of history lays hidden underneath the surfaces. I've been renovating flats in Copenhagen that were from around 1890-1900. The living room and the dorms are the easiest. It's the toilet and kitchen that's going to be the hassle and cost a lot of time and money.

We are definitely leaving those till last hoping to get that done professionally because we are to scared to deal with electrics and water haha

I know the project is probably completed by now. I have seen you guys go to work before so I know the end product will totally exceed prior projects. Look forward to the unveiling. Even Lola is curious. Would be interesting to find out the history behind the open floor door. Txs,

I sanded my floor years ago, I used a darker red stain. I really should have put about 2-4 coats of varnish though, my mistake! Your flat is great and it will look awesome when you get done.

The fireplace with an electruc fire behind the glass would look amazing, can't believe people covered up that flooring. You can have it sanded down and stain to whatever colour you want.

Since I live in Sweden, I know how important insulation is. Your wooden floor doesn't seem to have any insulation at all?! Here there had been at least 30 cm of insulation, and then the wooden floor. The insulation was the canvas and the carpet, incredibly little. The floor should be cold and drafty in winter. Have you thought about it? It doesn't feel like the wood floor was meant to be exposed. But I agree with you that it is much nicer than the dirty carpet. Good luck with the renovation!!👍😎💥

Yes, the UK is and especially was amazingly nonchalant about insulation under floors. The space underneath is probably even ventilated to the outside, so windy winter nights could be brutal. Adding that is essential for comfort.

I swear, I lose more weight watching you two work than I do from making a three-mile hike to and from my local Co-op. You seem to be making all the right design decisions, too. I'd say 'Keep up the good work', but as there is a time-lag between you making the videos and putting them on KZbin, I assume all the good work is done by now and you're at the stage of seeing something you missed, narrowing your eyes, pursing your lips and wondering if it's worth the effort. 🙂

I was talking to my 23yo son while deleting emails on my phone, when the alert popped up. 😂The annoyed look on his face when I exclaimed, “Oooohhh! A Naomi & Jack video!!!,” and immediately clicked on it. Now that I’ve watched it, I can’t remember what he was trying to tell me. Whoops, lol. I better go find out. Can’t wait for the next one! Btw, not having a vapor barrier under the house (right on top of the dirt) increases heating costs. That’s a super low clearance crawl space. I suggest asking Jack’s dad for advice on the one, too. The fireplace has def seen better days.
