Very interesting. Especially the fuel consumption. In South Africa we use them mostly for offroad trips and about 95% of vehicle have bull bars and roof racks. Performance mods are uncommon. People mostly concern themselves with recovery gear, high air intakes, roof tents, interior storage, dual battery systems, water tanks and so on. In England they seem to be used more as street cars. Not a very comfortable choice but okay haha. We also had a factory option of a 2.8 liter straight 6 petrol over here. I think you would like that one. The M52 engine from BMW.

They are mostly workhorses in the UK, most spend their life on farms, they just don’t all need bull bars and lots of add in bits that rarely get used.

I recently had my 2.4 remapped. Intercooler upgrade. Straight pipe and replaced the suspension with an airbag system. I also fitted a Moto-Litan steering wheel just like yours. Its a whole new vehicle now.

Sounds like a great transformation! I’m looking to swap out the intercooler soon for a much larger one, excited to see the difference

@@ScoutTheDefender Congrats on the intercooler.

I struggle with the performance of the brakes on an unmodified Defender. I am carrying a rack and a heavy roof tent full time along with gear inside, so that doesn't help. But I'd like to upgrade my brakes regardless of a remap, and the general approach I've taken with stuff like this is when it comes time to replace any bits on the Landy, I tend to fit upgraded parts in their place. And that's my plan for the brakes as well. Excellent video!
@Jabber-ig3iw Жыл бұрын
Brakes are fine on my 130. Brake upgrades are pretty pointless unless you up power massively or a vehicle is under raked from the factory, which you could maybe level at the defender. Like I say I don’t find my 130 under braked in any way.

I did the same to my 2007 2.4 including egr and speed limit delete. Better in every respect including mpg, and I don't get any more engine management lights and limp home crap. However, I picked up 3 tons of sand, which I do a couple of times a year, and noticed it struggled quite a bit more than previously. And cold starting isn't as good.

I want to look into getting an EGR delete - seem to be having a few issues with mine atm.

Got a stage 2 on my TD5 and works well. Uprated my brakes to slotted discs & better pads and even with the extra power, extra weight of a roll cage that’s a cost effective option. Love the lof brake kits but at £2k place that’s never happening 🤔
@ScoutTheDefender3 жыл бұрын
Nice! Definitely considering it, although I know the TD5 is far more tuneable. Will look into break kits too, as you know the standard brakes are like sponges 😂

The first gear in my puma is pretty much none existent, literally gets me to 4 or 5 mph. That's what I find most undrivable about the car

Mines very similar, often pull off in 2nd

When are you doing the Stage 2 remap?

Fingers crossed early next year!

The power you have now is pretty much the same as my stock Freelander 2 which I think is a lighter vehicle, that's pulls great in gear. I may consider a stage one at some point but honestly don't feet it needs it. The Defender 110 on a Stage 2 will be great. i do wonder if the transmission and running gear can cope though.

A lot of people with a stage 1 say they are thinking about a stage 2, I am thinking of remapping my TD5 and am wondering whether to just go stage 2, I have all the other modifications done for it
@ScoutTheDefender2 жыл бұрын
Definitely tempted to take it to the next stage too

Great video, definitely going to consider this for mine after watching this. Who did the remap for you?
@ScoutTheDefender3 жыл бұрын
Definatley worth considering! I got mine remapped at LR Motors based in Thirsk, a great bunch of knowledgable guys there 👍

Hey there I’m planning on doing the stage 1 Remap for my 2.4 Puma. Does the engine wear out much faster with it ?
@ScoutTheDefender3 жыл бұрын
Hi, if you get a quality map then it shouldn’t do any extra wear to the truck 👍🏼
@MrGromart3 жыл бұрын
Does stage 1 affect top speed? How fast you could go before/after (with optimum load, not redlining it)?
@ScoutTheDefender3 жыл бұрын
It probably has affected the top speed for sure, not that I’ve tested though!!In general, it now sits more comfortable at 70/75 mph on longer drives 👍🏼
@Kalamazoom3 жыл бұрын
Hi, what mpg do you get? Or how many miles to a full tank do you get? Thanks 🙏
@ScoutTheDefender3 жыл бұрын
Hi, it can vary drastically. At best, it’s around 25/26 mpg 👍🏼

I have a remap on mine, not this one but with similar improvement in horsepower and torque (about 20%). The resultant fuel economy has improved by about 10%.

Does the Stage 1 engine remap have side effects on the 2.4 engine ?
@ScoutTheDefender3 жыл бұрын
As far as I'm aware, there are not any negative side effects. Generally makes the car much more drivable and slightly more fuel efficient.

I'm a 23-year-old defender owner. How much do you think my insurance will change if I get the stage 1 remap
@ScoutTheDefender3 жыл бұрын
My insurance increased minimally, so well worth the upgrade. May be worth checking with your provider though before going ahead with it.

I've noticed quite a bit of black smoke with some remaps, is that an issue with Stage 1?
@ScoutTheDefender3 жыл бұрын
This was a worry for me too, but no signs of any black smoke. Usually, black smoke is due to an imbalance of fuel vs air, so increasing the intercooler has probably helped this issue too.
