There are a lot of elderly people and others that are so poor it would take them a very long time to "stockpile". Not realistic.

I grew up the middle child of 13. I don't feel comfortable or food safe unless I have what most would consider a major stockpile. In reality for me it's making sure no matter what I can feed my loved ones even those who don't live with me. I have routinely given a week worth of meals to friends with kids who were in a bad spot,

Thru savings apps /coupons / store sales /clearance items and food pantries even when I had under $60 a month of total income I still maintained my pantry enough to be able to feed myself my roommate (who covered rent and utilities but had zero extra after as our total income was about 500 a month)

When I brought it up to my husband months before the C-19 lockdown. He wasn't totally against it but really wasn't on board either. Then after the store shelves emptied he did the same thing. He was trying to figure out extra storage so we can stockpile things in the garage, 😂 He too changed his tune pretty quick!!

Stockpiling comes naturally for me because I grew up in the shadow of parents and grandparents who lived through the depression. I recall my mother saying the depression was horrible for many people but she and her brothers, as kids, didn't realize any difference from any other time. Her dad worked at many different jobs besides being a farmer (with horses), from mail carrier, to farrier, to making cedar roofing shingle6s and molasses. My grandmother canned, raised chickens and sold the eggs, milked cows, sewed for people as well as her own 6 kids. My mother continued those practices. She sold milk and eggs and raised a HUGE garden every year and canned hundreds of cans of meat and produce and processed and froze meat as it became available. Now, I'm 71 years old and preserve what I can from my own little garden or the gardens of generous neighbors. I buy meats on sale (usually chicken thighs) and can it, for me and my dogs -- I have a tiny freezer and no room for a deep freeze, so canning and dehydrating is a big plus. My stockpile isn't as organized as it should be but I'm working on it. Last week, I organized some cans of food that I'd been collecting and just sticking them where I could. Turns out, I had 14 cans of salmon, 17 cans of hominy, and so on. Just thought I'd throw out these thoughts.

That and other examples in the very same Bible. These days plenty of people don't even own the Good Book. If they own it, how often do they read it ?? Do the kids ever read it, ?? it starts with the parents reading to them, and telling them the stories .

I had a friend that her in-laws and her husband both would not let them buy food more than a day's worth. They didn't believe in stocking up it was really saddening and they both had large families. It later came out that both the men had abusive behaviors towards their wives and family. So I do think not being able to have a pantry like she was talking about there's bigger problems going on

@@grandmasewhappyhomestead187 I have always bought food for at least 1 to 2 weeks, even when I was younger, because I don't like going to the grocery store that much. It seems like it would be an awful waste of time to have to go to the store every single day to get everything you need for a large family for 3 meals and snacks. It would take just as much time to shop everyday as it would to just get those same items for a week's worth. Plus people typically don't get paid daily; they get paid weekly or every other week. If my husband expected me to go to the grocery shopping every day, there would be a divorce! I wonder what they do when there is a bad storm.

I was already stuck home due to quarantine 2ndary to my gdaughter's other gmother tested positive and she had spent nights with both of us. I was stir crazy by the time I could get out of my driveway. But I had plenty of food. Years ago my husband.left us with no money in the bank and very little food in the house. I returned a suit he bought me for my nursing graduation and bought food. My house has always had at least 3 months of food every since that time. And that was 1994. I've stockpiled for years. Being a single mom, of three boys, it came in handy more times than I can count. It doesn't hurt to buy an extra can or two when you shop. One year I was able to take the summer off and only had to buy essentials (eggs, milk, etc) Then I restarted my food storage.

I am 72 and grew up with a family who always kept a supply of food ahead. People did not go to the store more than once a week and if you ran out of something, you just went without and substituted. When I get down to one item, I buy one or two more. We don't have any extra room in our tiny apartment, but totes fit nicely under the table.

When my husband finishes up one of his products, he leaves the empty out for me to see. I then do two things: 1) go to my stockpile and get another one out for him, and 2) write it down on my list to replace the hole in my stock. I usually have more than one in storage, so I can watch for next time lowest price comes around.

I have a stockpile room in my basement. Always kept at least 1 yr of TP, paper towels, laundry detergent, cleaners etc. My husband complained of my “hoarding” tendencies and wanted me to keep only a few extra of things. So ok I started using up my stockpile. Then Covid hit. We had 1 nine pack of TP and 4 paper towel rolls. And not my normal levels of food. Now he happily supports my stockpiling. I have 1 year worth of canned goods and 2 yrs worth of TP, thanks to my husband having to use dollar tree TP until we could find his preferred brand.

I’ve never thought of putting food back as stockpiling. I grew up in the Midwest and we didn’t have money for food. We grew and canned everything for the year ahead so we knew we had food to eat. We picked what grew wild as well. My mom made all our friends aware that we would take what they didn’t want from their gardens and fruit trees. We never went hungry.

Our great grandparents , 100 and more years ago who lived on farms went to town once a month sometimes twice a year to stock up on a little sugar, flour , coffee etc. because they worked 7 days a week in the farm. We in 2021 are spoiled to literally shopping every day, and the majority of todays wives do not cook. We tend to grab junk food items. Everyone needs to learn how to at least cook simple meals and bake biscuits or sour dough bread. Do not buy items you do not eat normally, keep it simple. ❤️

God wants us to use the common sense He gave us and to be prepared. I try to have about 3 months worth of extra groceries stocked up especially when winter is coming. I always start buying extra in the summer for my winter stock up, but the rest of the year I try to have extra stored for emergency. God will provide for our needs, but He gives us the ability to plan for emergency situations.

Funny to see this in my feed. I just texted my two sons-in-law encouraging stocking up for their families, if they haven't or are hesitant. My third SIL already thinks about these things. ;) Something told me it was wise to address it to the men, because it appeals to their desire to protect. I think the girls will go along with it, if their husbands bring it up. I opened with noting the rising prices. I gave them a few specific suggestions of why, a few specific suggestions to store and how, and encouragement that it is not hoarding nor a lack of faith, but taking care and acting on wisdom. Hopefully they will hear it. Saying a prayer that they do. Hopefully they were already thinking this way, but I know it's been a busy time for them all, with one moving house and the others dealing with med school.

There's nothing worse than running out of something mid cooking, we don't drive so we can't run out and buy stuff especially in our winter's. So I have certain items in my back bedroom closet, my daughter lives in the bottom apartment and also uses my closet store..if something costs retail 2.99 I paid 1.99 a month ago so we save for not buying only when we run out.

i taught my hubby to stay out of my kitchen, stock piling is my business, garage is his years ago my hubby threw away my favorite roaster, 18 qt beauty we were having a big family picnic and i needed to make a huge amount of corn on the cob and bbq chicken i went nuts looking for the roaster finally i called my hubby down to help me look to which he said i got rid of that last year when i cleaned the basement. OMG hell broke loose, so the following week i decided i was going to teach him i took his snow blower to my dads and asked him to keep it housed for awhile for me well long story short 1996 back to back snow storms we had to climb out a window to shovel and open our front door, hubby comes running upstairs in a panic the snowblowers gone wth how could someone steal something so darn big, all beside himself i began laughing uncontrollably i completely forgot about the snowblower. finally i said on that sillything, i got rid of that a year ago (it was literally a few months) why would you do that he asked unbelievably do you know how expensive that was, i said well you didn't use it for a year so i figured you didnt want or need it anymore, kinda like my roasting pan. lesson learned kitchen is my domain, garage and basement are his without my stockpiling for winter we would have starved being snowed in for days on end. btw my dad was very grateful i forgot the snowblower, he actually needed it to get out of his driveway lol he brought it back to us and i got a brand new roaster that year for christmas which i still have to this day and we will never be hungry for sure

From the time I started stockpile in 2020 , I have already noticed prices rise, shelves empty again, and limits on products again. I am not feeling stressed or rushed through the store, I only have around 3-6 months of food in the house , but I can easily make it stretch 9 months. I don’t need to buy fancy jars or food drying machines. I already had a food saver so a few things I did seal, but mostly it has been easy to prep. For me it’s a large pantry I can easy grab from especially if the weather is bad or I am too busy to get the the store. Buying all the canned goods in large loads also makes it easy when putting food away, I don’t have to haul heavy bags around, but one weekend of a hour of work to put away and label/ mark cans and I am done. I rent and use half of my hall closet as a food pantry. It’s clean, organized, and doesn’t take space up from living my normal life.

A little food, some paper towels, a few cleaning supplies, etc. We got a smallish freezer awhile back so we could store some of the food we grew and things from a local farm, but we'd like another one now. We have been lucky a couple of times now that we buy our meats from a local rancher and don't have to worry when bacteria outbreaks or shortages happen because we buy directly from her. If you have a minimalist husband like I do who doesn't want to buy anything that doesn't have a dedicated space to store it regardless of whether you are stockpiling it or not, then encourage him to work as a team to develop storage solutions for the normal amounts you buy and then build up to working on storage solutions for stockpiled items. Some men are more worried about the sheer volume more than the money no matter how affordable the stockpile items may be.

My husband doesn't say no but he does tell me, there is no way we will ever eat all this food. The thing that he seems the most irritated with is when I am canning. I was just talking about my husband with why I stockpile. I remember my mother-in-law (German) saying they had no oil for cooking after the war and her own mother got so desperate because her husband was growing so thin that she used motor oil and almost accidentally killed everyone. Also, I heard other German women talk about how they foraged in fields and woods and what they found was literally what their family had to eat day. Also I remember watching a BBC show about farm life in the war in England when supplies were so hard to come by that even KIDS were excited to get a flipping bar of soap for Christmas. One flipping bar of soap was a BIG deal. Those were advanced, industrialized countries in that time....also read Clara's cookbook (the one from KZbin) and some of those things they were foraging and eating weren't just because of tradition. My own mother was young during the Depression here and had to participate in a special feeding program because her mom just wasn't able to provide for her. Sounds like my grandma didn't have a stockpile! We have a place in the country and I have quite a haul to go to the store so it is way better to have our own little "deep pantry" in our house.

I tried to tell my family members to stock up but they thought I was being over dramatic. I've been stocking up slowly but had to keep in mind that I need enough for my daughters and grandkids too. It's not been easy because I'm on a low income but I've managed a fair bit just by buying a few extras each week. I think the biggest worry for me has been how I'm gonna look after my health condition if the power goes off as I have severe breathing issues and use a nebuliser and also ensuring my family have things they'll need. Thankyou for all your wonderful advice it's more appreciated than you know :)

He relies on me to know prices so we know what to stock up when. Been married 46 years. FYI - we finally got our more powerful dual propane/gas generator. Just waiting on the electrician to install the transfer switch so we won't need a bunch of extension cords. Will have power for a LOT - yippee 😊😊. OK - now on to your video. Love you guys!

I love the idea of being thrifty and frugal and since I am Mormon, I was raised with food storage and hygiene storage, thrift store shopping and buying on clearance. For me it is normal to look for the deals. I keep a five year supply on hand. 1 year or food in freezer and fridge and everyday pantry. Portion control is important in everyday life. My second year and three year preps are canned/dry goods. My long term preps are my dry goods/long term food supplies and heirloom seeds, spices and long term water purification items. My hygiene and household preps are stocked for five years as well, think bidet, and your tp goes longer. Shampoo soap, instead of bottles, etc. I have gone through job loss, waiting on disability for over three years to go through and currently I live in a 1 bedroom low income apartment. My savings paid my rent for those years of waiting, 10 percent a month every month, in an envelope is all it takes, to build your savings long term. My grandparents taught me, if you don't have cash on hand, you don't have money. They lived through the great depression bank closures and lost their money. When I moved into my low income apartment, I downsized into a one bedroom 500 square foot space. I bought 8 sets of metal shelves and heavy duty black covers with zippers when I moved in, so I can keep my preps out of sight out of mind when people come in for repairs or inspections. I loose a grand total of 12 feet long and 18 inches wide along two walls but I have a security that I can wait to shop sell items, and not get robbed paying retail. I like to shop once a year for major restock of items, and then once a month for fresh items. Noah was a prepper, he listened to god, ignored the neighbors taunts, built a boat, supplied it with food and seed and he and his family repopulated and restocked the earth. Joseph prepared a nation, Adam and Eve had to till the land and raise their food. History is full of people who got prepared in advance. My preparedness is very organized, I write down what I take off the shelves each day, so I can be prepared when I shop yearly to restock my supplies. I am trying to get seven years back up, but so far what I have I use, nothing on my shelves goes to waste.

If he is having upper respiratory illness, look into getting off of pork. My brother got pneumonia three times in 4 months when he was a toddler, Doctor said he just had to go out of it. My mother looked further into it try a couple things and we figured out that he's allergic to pork. My mom and myself are also sensitive to it

My husband and I through our marriage have always had a food storage. Now that my husband has passed and our children have grown up. I find I still shop and look for the specials on foods that I know that I will eat. I know that I will have enough to help my daughter and her family should something happens.

Watched 3 days later, good information. - I'm still eating myself through condiments my late husband piled up after 4 years since he passed away. We had to learn for thing like hurricane season and earthquakes what 'cycles itself' and what doesn't. The recommendations of what you should have don't work for everybody. Boxed cereal here would be gotten into by termites or ants in no time (I'm in Hawaii and not on Oahu but at the very end of the supply line), and a spare freezer at $0.38/kwh or thereabouts is just about prohibitive (never mind that it would take months to get one unless you're very lucky and get one when a shipment comes in). The best thing we can do here is grow food for ourselves and if possible acquire some hunting skills (we have rather large pigs here).

My husband hears stockpiling and bullets & batteries go in his brain. So I had to explain why I wanted 6-12 months of food on the shelf. (We are down to 3 -6 months depending on items right now.) I gave him the instance of his stroke with no paycheck for 3 months, then half a paycheck for 3 months. Thank goodness for our “stockpile”. He says Oh you mean a working pantry! So that’s what we’ve named ours. We’ve always had the 3 months earlier in marriage and worked it up to more. It takes time

Yes, that would be a very helpful video. Last October my family started eating primarily from our prepper food storage with the intent to replace with fresh supplies later. I was feeling pretty smug thinking that we had at least a year of food stockpiled. When we started to eat only what we had on hand I realized that we could probably survive on our stored food between 3 to 4 months before it ran out. It disappears much quicker than we think it will. And for anyone with teenage boys, good luck.

I have a "second pantry" in the basement so a) I don't have to go to the store any time I run out and b) I have somewhere to store things when I buy it on special. And things that are cheaper at the store an hour away, I buy enough for 3-6 months (4 packets of cocoa) then I don't have to make extra trips, buy a worse product, or pay more for the same thing.

We literally bought our house because it had a breakfast bar next to the kitchen for my husband's two favorite food groups, cereal and coffee. We both love Great Grains cereal, but we don't normally keep it on hand because it is pricey. My husband recently found it at a great price on a month long sale. All month he has been picking up a couple of boxes every time he goes in for our weekly staples. I found my husband is more likely to stockpile an item if we stockpile it incrementally when it is on sale, especially if that price is below our buy price.

Knowing how to shut off and drain pipes and a way to prevent things like toilet traps from freezing is exceedingly important. There are empty bladders that fit into bathtubs that you can fill if you have an emergency headed your way, but you still have power and evencity water when you first know you are about to be hit with the need. God reason to kep the tub squeaky clean.

I ask my husband if he would make a list of things he usually buys like batteries, light bulbs, etc. that he usually buys. He actually came up with a better price on bulk battery packages than I did. I also asked him to develop a price book on the computer for me. He is good at remembering who has the best price and approximately what the buy price it is and which store has it at that price. I need a computer spreadsheet. I tried to create a price book spreadsheet and I made it so detailed it was overwhelming and not useful. LOL

When I got married to my husband, it wasn’t long before we had our first discussion about groceries and how much should be spent. I came from a home where my parents would ensure there was enough food in the house and buying extra was important. In my father’s mind that he never wanted to see where there wasn’t enough food or run out of any food. My husband came from a home in the country where money was tight and feeding a family of 9. His mother canned most of their food and they had a smaller budget for food. Any money leftover was spent on the next need in the household. My husband felt strongly about too much money spent on groceries. With not knowing more about this woman’s situation and hearing the husband’s side I feel calling anyone a “jerk” is unfair. I also have seen where people will use their other half as an excuse. You have to put the time and effort to have a good pantry that is sustainable in any situation. I do love your videos and your recipes that are simple and budget friendly.

I'm so glad my husband and I are on the same page. Have enough food stock piled. We only buy what is on sale that we need to replace what we use. Now, we are starting to restock shampoo, soap, etc. We don't usually shop for clothes, shoes, etc. Our kids give us gift cards or clothes for special days. We are retired and are by no means poor. We just don't see a need to be going out all the time, and we take care of the clothes we have.

Butter, flour, boxed milk , for biscuits and canned fruit at least. I'm elderly and on s.s. and I use a salvage grocery store to put up lots of food. This food is discarded by high end grocery stores and the food sells for penny's on the dollar. King Arthur 1.00 anyone? Ten pounds sugar 3.00 ? From Publix. Oh yeah! .60 tea from pg tips? Uh huh.

Stocking up when food is cheaper or on sale just saves you money, time and trips to the store durning a plandemic or storm or shortages so it's just smart. Don't scare him with huge emergency examples that the thought of it overwhelms him. Maybe some situations that already have happened. If you have the "thing" then you should not go out so that's 2 weeks right there. What if you need a set of tires...so if you had a months worth of food then that expense won't hurt you because your prepared. Use normal everyday examples that usually is the situation anyway.

I am on social security and I receive commodities each month from the food bank. I also take advantage of the 4th Saturday commodities they give us each month. When I get extra vegetables or fruit I clean and process that food. I also cook what I have. I am also given $19 on an EBT card. I use everything I have. I really enjoy your show. I am also going though my house and selling things I don't use. That money can also help you extend your money.

It was kind of funny; I was semi couponing for a little while about 6 months before Covid. We had a spare bedroom I used when our daughter moved out (two down, two to go 😉). He never really complained, but he would be like why do we need more 🧻 tp? I am like, as long as it fits in the “room”, we are good. Well, a few of my elderly neighbors needed to when Covid hit. For once, I was accidentally prepared. I really only would do it for my paper goods & laundry detergent. Although, Mike-I did just pick up more cinnamon tonight (I use it in my coffee, so I go through it quickly)-and only cinnamon, so it was funny 😆 you used that as an example.

You need to determine if your husband's problem is a stockpiling problem or a shopping problem. My husband loves Walmart's prices, but he hates physically shopping at Walmart. He has physical problems that make it hard to stand or walk for extended periods of time. I use their app to make my list. I run the list by my husband to make sure we are in agreement on the items to purchase and that the total cost is within our budget. We then decide if we are going to shop in person and/or whether or not we are going to pick-up indoors or outdoors. We also shop during the week so my husband can avoid standing in long lines on the weekend.
