Out of the 25 or so places I've spent time in Mexico, Oaxaca is my favorite, followed closely by Puebla and Guanajuato

Enjoy your videos and always to the point and yet very informative. (tried watching a KZbin today on a another city but the presenters spent too much time kissing one another and showing things that were not exactly supporting the title of their KZbin.). No kissy kissy for me! I had decided on an exploratory trip to another city- but now your video has convinced me to explore Oaxaca. I like how you present the temperatures, show rentals and prices, and cover all that living entails, but explore several locations as a walking tour. Great KZbin Channel!

Definitely on my bucket list. I live in Morelia, another beautiful colonial city …but have yet to get to Oaxaca. The food culture there seems so much more interesting than here in Morelia. A friend of mine lives in Oaxaca and has recently been concerned that it’s become way too touristy.

I pay 8,500 pesos a month(about $500) for rent on a nice apartment in Oaxaca city about five blocks from the Walmart. It is a nice place and quiet most of the time. However, there are no parks that I know of near me.

This was a very informative video. I’m going to spend 4 months this winter in a town called Soledad Etla. About 12 miles from Oaxaca center. I don’t know anything about it really but I just took a chance and booked it. It was cheap, and the host seems really nice. (Homestay) I didn’t want to spend much money sleeping as I’m really going for the food and laidback Mexican culture.

Very informative video! The moment I thought "yeah, but what about..." you were covering it. Looking forward to seeing more of this community. This region has been on my must-check-it-out list for a while and I think you just bumped it up a notch or two. Quick question on rentals: if I'm looking for something for 1 - 3 month trial residency, is it best to talk with a local real estate agent, walk the streets looking for private rentals, check out airbnbs? What's your recommendation?

Great video. However it would be nice if you could share the names of some of the places you frequented. For example the name of your favorite coffee shop, that cool rooftop restaurant with the spiral staircase. I will be in Oaxaca in a month and would love the opportunity to support these locally owned business that you recommend (in addition to finding many of my own discoveries) I just need to know the names so I can try the places you praised. Would be appreciated.

At just past the six-minute mark, you enter a three-story restaurant (coffee shop on first floor) with great view and interview a couple having breakfast. What’s the name of this establishment? Street? Also, elsewhere you visit a business where you can chose a vinyl album to be played on the stereo: what’s that places called? Thanks so much. Enjoyed your two videos. Have visited Oaxaca once during Day of the Dead during a two week birding trip that included many other places including Huatulco, San Jose del Pacifico, Tehuanteoec, Teotitlan, and various high-elevation areas near Oaxaca City.

@@jackbaldwin3649 Many expats LOVE it here but I dont. It's way too hot and humid for me. I got stuck here during covid and it was better than other countries to be stuck in. The main benefit is the one year retirement visa. Very easy and no proof of a certain income. They assume if you have money to get here that you have money to live here. I have not left when i wanted to due to health issues. The doctors here are good(read reviews before going to clinics or hospitals as quality can vary greatly)and i had 3 hernia operations that were excellent and ~$700. There really is not much to do but i dont drive. My western apt is $300pmo with electric and food is cheap and healthy. I cook in. Cheers

I don’t know anything about it, but i booked a Homestay room in Soledad Etla for 4 months this winter. It’s hard to find much about the town, but it’s a rural town of about 4000. The ad for the room said, “non tourist” town. I took the chance and booked it. I’m an American, but I’m not going to Mexico to hang out with Americans or Canadians.

@@dennisconrad6124 How was your stay? I like to visit the centros but also prefer away from very tourist or expat areas. Same reason not going to Mexico to be around like. Want to enjoy the culture, ppl, dogs barking, music and mezcal lol.
@dennisconrad612412 күн бұрын
@@cjd5255 Here’s what I discovered. All these KZbinrs that brag up the tourist spots, do that because that gets people to watch their videos. But here’s a fact. None of those people drove into Mexico. They flew in, and then used public transportation. It’s a TOTAL different picture when you drive into Mexico. Take Oaxaca Centro for an example. You have to park 15-20 blocks away and then walk in. God help you if you didn’t remember exactly where you park! In my opinion, Oaxaca Centro is over blown. If you never went there, you wouldn’t be missing much. I put 5000 MILES inside Mexico. Almost all of that was in non tourist areas because I wanted to see the real Mexico, not a tourist trap.
@dennisconrad612412 күн бұрын
@@cjd5255 One city that has a pretty cool Centro is Puebla. I’m talking about the Historical Centro. I could park fairly close. But if you drive, figure out how to pay for your parking. I didn’t do that and got a $13 ticket. But it wasn’t the price of the ticket, it was a hassle of paying it, and getting my front license plate back. Yes, they take your plate off and keep it till you pay.

I've lived in Mexico too, $1900.00 is alot of $$, I lived way cheaper than that and w a large family, too. I had my kids in private school (academic school, not daycare). Costs for all day was $125.00 8am- 6pm, includes fresh food from scratch cooked by teachers themselves, breakfast, lunch, snacks, and materials, and potty training. Reg medical, my doctor visits cost under $3.00 US $$, no wait time, includes a physical. My older kids tuition (bilingual education) was $225 per month 7am-7pm, food is included, tuition covers karateTae Kwan Do 2x wk and ballet 2 x wk. My rent for a very large apartament was $400. It was the happiest time of my kids lives, 2 yrs of cultural emersion and every summer we go back. We just returned from Oaxaca, 1 wk ago, I took my kids on all the tours we can get, we visite archeological sites, mercado, textile rug shops, natural springs for swimming (hierve el agua), churches, artesans, etc. Next summer they're trying a robotics summer class and a summer program focused on art & academics. When my son fell and cut his head open & needed stitches (happened off school premise), the student insurance (included in the registration), paid for all the medical costs.
