I think it’s also duo to Apartheid spatial planning which was unfortunately designed to keep Black people far away from the city, this makes commuting very long and therefore for safety reasons it’s best for malls to close down early enough to enable employees to commute home

The coal factory you were referring to is actually a coal powered generating station and one of the biggest in South Africa(I presume that’s Kusile). It has an installed capacity of 4000MW and just to put it into perspective, most African countries don’t have an installed capacity of more than 4000MW (4GW), Kenya has an installed capacity of 3300MW and Tanzania 2000MW. Some of the Power stations (like Kendal) you saw were actually one of the biggest dry-cooled in the world (at the time of construction ) in the 80s, in Fact Medupi Power station(4500MW) @Lephalale was referred to as the biggest dry-cooled coal powered power station in the world at the time of design in 2007.

Perhaps the most under appreciated aspect of South Africa is the road infrastructure. South Africa has the 10th longest road infrastructure network in the world beating most Western, Eastern and middle Eastern countries which are said be wealthy. Over 800k of road network. @luthovellem86525 күн бұрын
@@bongamkuyana3741 Yeah Bongs. When we talk about road network infrastructure we are only referring to tarred or paved roads. South Africans hardly drive on dirt roads except for deep rural areas but we travel on tarred surfaces across all of our 2000 towns and cities. Well done SANRAL. And yes guys SANRAL is black managed. It's state owned. The majority of the staff both engineers and administrators are black South Africans at over 90%. Also 40% of the current road network has been built in the past 30 years. On the road infrastructure front SA is easily a first world country.
