@@majy1735 No - that she didn't destroy everyone's expectations - at least one commentator expected her to fail spectacularly - it depends on what you mean by "everybody's expectations" I guess; I imagine the Tories who voted her into power were shocked (although I doubt that they realised quite how stupid they all were to have voted her in, even then), and at least some of the public didn't seem to realise how awful she had been and how much damage had been done to the country, even when they were questioned after the event; but ,without wishing to sound too smug, I remember thinking - and I expect I wasn't the only one - "hmm - that sounds about right, seeing how inept she has looked and sounded up to this point" - so, sadly, the fact that she was so brazen in her greed was not a surprise to us all; I remember being questioned by a relative at the time, and replying that I thought that she and Kwasi Kwarteng had decided there was no point in being subtle - they knew the Tories were heading for electoral disaster and this was just an attempt to win favour with bankers and oligarchs, and feather their own nests whilst they could. So many people in this country are spectacularly stupid - just think how difficult it is, even now, to get a lot of brexiteers to recognise that brexit might not have been the best thing the country might have done; there is always a tendency for people to cling to their stupidity, even when it has reached the point where any sane person would have realised they'd made a mistake - probably a combination of stupidity and pig-headedness ( if the two aren't the same thing). We've made so many mistakes about important or crucial matters, and show no sign of learning the lessons we need to - I'm glad I decided not to have any children 30 years or so ago. Forgive my pessimism - I'm all out of optimism. As far as Trump is concerned, I don't thnk he's the brightest button - but neither is Biden, who could yet end human, animal,o or all life on the planet. If you haven't already seen them try and find the latest posts from Colonel Douglas McGregor re Ukraine, who I think is sound on Miltary and some geopolitical matters, but pretty unsound on other, more internal US affairs (he was a Trump advisor on Military matters - the one bright spot in his presidency; if Trump had been able to take his advice re Afghanistan without it passing through the filters of 8 or 9 months worth of 4 star generals they might have got out at a better time of year. Also if you're not already doing so watch Jeffrey Sachs, who is sound in every way - former advisor to a long list of people on Economics and Geopolitics - John Mearsheimer ain't bad, but I think JS is better - 'shame Biden isn't listening to him; the most recent post - only a few hours old, is excellent, if worrying. cheers.

Writing from the Continent, I can say that BoJo, ReMo and Lizzie have finally convinced me that Brexit is a good idea. What a nightmare to think these people could sit in the European Council and have a say on the life of EU citizens! What I do regret, though, is the fact that the freedom of movement for them and their fellow Brexiteers has not been curtailed.
