Thank you for sharing Massimo 🙏🏻 (I would agree with others, this performance took place in 1987 not 1984) In 1984 looked a lot different than she does here (around 1984 Liza was starring alongside Chita Rivera in ‘The Rink’ and she wasn’t as focused and ‘clear’ as she is here) Liza had gained a some weight by 1984 and was suffering from some substance issues. That same year she went to Betty Ford clinic and cleaned up, by 1986 she was performing a comeback at London’s Palladium, a concert that HBO filmed for their ‘Standing Room Only’ series. That was the start of her return to form. She was still carrying some weight, but by 1987 Liza had returned to absolute top-form, lost all the weight and looked prettier than she’d ever looked. This is the year she performed her extraordinary 1987 return to Carnegie Hall (the first being 1979) and by 1988 her hair was shorter and lighter in color and she had lost even more weight for her filming of the movie Arthur 2. So I would definitely date this performance by her appearance and her voice as 1987. I love Liza’s deeper voice in the 90s, and her later ‘eras’ and even Minnelli On Minnelli and her wonderful Liza’s Back have special places in my heart… But her voice in 1987 is unmatched. It started to sound a bit tired during her 1988-1989 ‘The Ultimate Event’ tour with Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jnr, much darker in tone for her 1989 released Pet Shop Boys album, by her first and second engagements at Radio City in 1991-1992 her voice has lost a smoothness that would never return. In 1987, we still have the flexibility of her youthful sound but the richer deeper notes that comes with maturity, it was the perfect balance in my opinion. The perfect year.
