What a frustrating ordeal Liz, I’m so very impressed and proud of your persistence with locating your bike and reasoning with the police. My son had a hit and run by a drunk driver that he met for a video interview earlier in the day. When he called the police he gave them the drunk drivers business card. They called him left a message and that was it. When we contacted the police station they said it was assigned to an officer. We called back a few days later and they said officer was on vacation. We called again they said it was reassigned to another officer. We went down to station and officer said they are busy with meetings and dont have time. We went to the persons home and he would not answer door. We gave info to insurance agent and he got connected with hit and run persons attorney and the attorney said that the man was sorry I will pay for everything. So Liz I truly feel your pain but thankful things turned out well

As a resident of st George, I am very sorry that happened to you. Lots of good people here, but there’s a growing number of undesirable cretins. The Marriott is a locally known bad area. Very nice footage of the drive over Foremaster hill! There’s a growing e-bike community here too. This is good information for anyone!! I used a hardened cable and security padlock in conjunction with a bicycle Club lock on my ebike…and kept it in the garage! We’ve had a half dozen kid bikes and scooters disappear since living here. Skateboards too. I’m embarrassed and ashamed of the community for your experience. I enjoyed the video! Well done and evenly delivered.

St. George has grown so much that there are all sorts of people there by now. In her case the police actually cared. You can see plenty of videos from cities like New York or London where the police could care less. In a video from London (think it's titles "bike thief caught red handed"), a crowd confronted a bike thief who stole a bike with his friend with an angle grinder in the very well trafficked inner city. The police actually let the thief go, he got to keep the stolen bike and was given the angle grinder back he had used to steal the bike. If you don't believe it I could even send you the video. Police literally never cares about bike theft.

So if you take the batteries in the room, the tracker is disabled? My state laws make an ebike dangerous. You MUST drive it in traffic only. So i'm going electric honda CL360. Rather have tires that can handle driving 70mph in traffic. $1500 for motor and batteries.

This video "lesson" is worth paying for, even though it's free. Many, many years ago I decided it would be better for me to learn from other people's mistakes and then, very recently, I decided to make it my motto to never be too lazy to double check for safety. Absolutely. I had stuff stolen from my hotel room (Chicago Marriott) and it was after I forgot to lock it in the safe and a hotel employee (room cleaner) had scoped it out. Wow, What a story, Liz. You paid a price but learned a lot. Glad you got your bike back! Thieves have gone to extremes to get these bikes. Nothing is 100% security. I bought an ABUS $200 D Lock for my ebike, and I use that, along with an older D Lock when I have to leave it in public for a short period of time. To my amazement, I've watched videos of people defeating seemingly heavy duty locks with large bolt cutters. I learned that, whether by chain or by D Lock, a large bolt cutter cannot defeat a lock that is 16mm thick, hardened steel. Of course, the "professionals" may use an angle grinder, which, given enough time, will defeat any lock system. My bike also has a rather loud and piercing alarm that I always turn on when leaving my bike. It's maddening, I tell ya! All the best to you, going forward!

So glad you got your bike back! I just got back from a 4000 mile vacation in which we took both of our EBikes with us. At a hotel in a small-ish town in Montana, we weren't able to take our bikes with us to our room. That is something we did every night. This hotel didn't have an elevator, and we were on the 3rd floor. To top it off, there was a major lightning storm going on when we arrived. We decided to leave our bikes, also chained to the rack, just outside the front door of the hotel. It all worked out and our bikes were there in the morning, but I sure didn't sleep very well. I decided that night that as soon as I got home, I would be ordering a couple Air Tags and holders for them. After seeing your video, I'm glad I made that decision.

Don’t drive 750 miles in a day. It can be hard on your back, for starters. You need to take care of your overall health. Try not to break your hand or anything else. You’re an active, vibrant person. It’s good that you run and bike. Try to meditate just a little each day. Praying is speaking to the universe. Meditation is listening to the universe. My mantra is: Travel safe, Do well, Be proud. Thanks, Liz! Even though this post is over a year old, the information is timeless! There are a few good air-tag holders that can conceal the tag on your bike. No security apparatus (lock, chain, etc.) is bulletproof. All locks can be picked, Some just take longer. However, thieves seldom try to pick the lock. They use bolt cutters (6 seconds) and battery powered angle-head grinders (less than a minute).. The "top rated" most common name brand chain locks are only an inconvenience to the thief. Leave them in the store unless you use five of them! You first want to make your bike inconspicuous (a cover) and then use multiple security devices so that the thief will avoid the bike because it will take too much time to defeat all of them. As of this date, I only know of two D-locks that take more than 2 minutes to defeat with a grinder and they cost about $300 each.. If you add a disc lock and a thick hardened chain along with an alarm to one of these two D-locks, you are probably going to be safe. If carrying your bike on a hitch rack, remember to double secure the rack to the receiver or vehicle frame. Try to position the key cylinder of any lock so that it is difficult to get too. A sticker that says "WARNING ALARM!" is a good deterrent if you can place it in an obvious place on the vehicle or bike cover. Be sure to read the fine print if you buy a device that promises to pay you if your bike is stolen using their device. Yes, all this is inconvenient, but so is having your bike stolen!

I'm just now coming across your video a year late! I really do appreciate your honest account of the whole situation and I'm so glad that you were able to get your bike back in the end. Also, I can sure relate to being in a situation where circumstances we're going through strongly affect our judgement. Over 20 yrs. ago, my daughter (in her 20's) and I had to live with my mother for a time after my 30 year marriage ended (husband tried to kill me). Not only was there the trauma from all that, but as part of the divorce agreement, I had to return the car. We ended up using using 2 old bikes as our means of transportation. We rode them to work, store, bank and anywhere else we had to go. And to be honest, they were just regular bikes, but we were thankful for them! One day we rode the bikes up to the library to check our email because mom didn't have internet. We locked the bikes up safely right in front of the front door. When we left not 15 minutes later, the bikes were gone, not even the locks remained. Oddly, the security guard who was standing in the front lobby just a few feet from the door, saw nothing. We felt like we'd been punched in the stomach. Unlike your bike, ours were not worth much to anyone but us, and now we were back to walking everywhere. Thank the Lord, our story had a happy ending. Though our bikes were never found, a family member felt so badly for us that they offered to let us use their spare car until we were able to get on our feet....and that was an enormous blessing. All that is probably too much information, but just saying that we can sure relate. Thank you for sharing your story! Sometimes it's easy to think everyone else has the perfect life, but the truth is, sometimes bad things happen even when you're trying to do everything right. Also, thank you for everything you do to help others! God bless!

Geez Liz, I guess Happy Birthday to you! Really glad you got your bike back and that Juiced is taking care of you. Having something stolen from you is really tough. Had home broken into years ago and it felt like a huge violation of privacy! One thing to have your things stolen but then knowing some creepy person(s) were in your home just goes right through you. I’m always a little nervous about our ebikes and that’s why I don’t use them just to run to the store down the street because I just know they’d be gone because the bad guys these days are so doggone bold! Neighbor across the street just had his catalytic converter stolen off his care at grandkids soccer game a few weeks ago and even with people filming them they just kept at it and were gone in about 2 minutes. Everyone wants what we have I guess. Keep up the great videos and looking forward to seeing what your next rig is. Stay safe…

Hi Ed, nice to hear from you. WOW about the catalytic converter, what a story. And so sorry you had thieves in your house. It definitely is a violation feeling. I do sometimes worry about someone trying to take my bike while I'm on it. But it does go fast! And I do avoid sketchy areas. As you can see, the thieves live in a VERY nice house. I don't know if I'd be safe riding my bike on their street, unfortunately. It pains me to think about all the stolen merchandise that must be in that house. So glad you found your bike. We recently had our 28' pull behind camper stolen. We moved into a neighborhood that doesn't allow them so we were excited to find a neatby covered storage unit for it. I wish I had thought of hiding an Apple Airtag in it but didn't and it has not been recovered. The storage facility was of no help at all. Cameras and a locked gate proved to be useless. We now have two eBikes and will be vacationing soon but thankfully they are folding bikes so we will keep them inside our vehicle and inside our room at the lodge. They and everything else movable we own now have airtags.

Well, truth is, she was going to get it back no question, because of that GPS. The question really was, in what condition? Thankfully, it wasn't damaged too much, or the damages were repairable. The lesson learned, is to really have a highly valuable bike like hers more secured with a steel bike lock or on your person, like in your hotel room or office. Most people can't carry or even roll a heavy bike into the building so heavy duty bike locks are a must. Have two different kinds of locks for extra layers of security. GPS is a layer of security that is needed because it will get your property back

I've stored my bike in my truck bed on numerous occasions in some fairly sketchy areas (urban/city). Always cover it! I also use multiple locks. Plus I strip it of the valuable parts - battery, seat, front tire. Between the lack of parts and multiple locks I've never had a problem.

Thanks for the video Liz. I have a Rad Rover. I carry it inside my E250 van or in an enclosed trailer only. Displayed on an external bike mount, it's just too tempting to thieves...no matter how many locks, chains, or cables secure it. It *will* eventually be stolen. A sad commentary on today's world, but it is what it is. Edit; Thinking I'd seen something similar from you in the past, I reviewed channel videos. So this is the 3rd time you've had an e-bike on an external rack stolen. Wow! Just more evidence that what I say is 100% true. If you have it in the open, they will steal it. A $40 cordless grinder from Harbour Freight is all it takes to defeat whatever locking 'solution' there is. Enclosed in a vehicle or trailer that has an alarm is my choice, or leave the bike home.

Hey Liz, just ran into this video. Love your videos on the RV industry. I currently don't own an RV but I plan on getting one in the future, probably a Class C or a campervan. I've been biking for about 40 years and I've had about 4 bikes stolen from me. I'm a bike/pedestrian/public transit advocate in my city (Fremont, CA). My last stolen bike was a nice full suspension mountain bike I had left inside my car overnight in front of my house because I was too tired to bring it in. Big mistake. I woke up the next morning to find someone had broken into the car and stole the bike and about $500 worth of bike gear. They took nothing else. I'm glad your bike had an active GPS tracker on board. In my neck of the woods, the cops see bike theft as prevalent and low priority unless there was physical injury involved somehow. They usually will not pursue your case unless they witnessed the theft themselves. If what happened with your bike happened here, I'm not sure any effort would have been done to recover my bike as it might be against policy. Just a thought but with the metal bike chain you bought, a bike thief will be able to cut it in about 20 seconds or less. If you bought a very expensive, steel U-lock, thieves can probably break it in 1-2 minutes with a tool that works like a car jack. It just slowly expands until the lock is snapped. There are nice hitch bike racks with good locking mechanisms though. Overall, I would recommend assuming your bike is something easily stolen and there are bike thieves everywhere as it's an easy crime with lots of chop shops around so never let it out of your sight if possible, especially with something as valuable as your e-bike. The bike locks only slow down a bike thief from a few seconds to 1-2 minutes. My personal strategy is to minimize the risk. Whenever, I bike to a public event like a festival, I find where the cops are I and I lock up my bike as close to them as possible or in a very public place where there is lots of people around. Even then, I've heard stories of bike thieves brazenly coming with bolt cutters and stealing a bike in front of everybody. I hope everything has gone well with your bike in the past year. Coming back to RVs for a moment, after watching most of your recent videos, I think we need Congress to pass a lemon law for RVs and perhaps do a Sherman anti-trust investigation into the RV industry (both Congress and the DOJ) and either break up some of these companies or heavily regulate the industry or allow more foreign competition. Thanks!

Hello Liz, I realize this video is now a year old, but thought I would respond as well, in that we too take our two e-bikes with us, using the Hollywood bike rack/carrier! Right off the bat, I didn't trust the locking mechanism of the carrier, and I always cover our e-bikes as well, BUT, I never have less than FIVE locks, some locking the bikes together, and some locking the bikes to the carrier itself, of which the carrier is locked to our motorhome! Two of the locks are of the type you use, with hardened steel, which would take a great deal of time, effort and noise to deal with. The other locks may be easier to get through, but one locks the two front wheels together. One hardened steel lock, is a folding lock, locking the two bikes together, and my fat-tire e-bike is 75 lbs without the battery, and my wife's is about 65 lbs, so even getting through the locks, The Kryptonite New York lock weights another 10 lbs. which would add to the e-bikes, and trying to carry the bikes would be difficult even for two individuals. Our bedroom is no more than 3' from the back of our motorhome, so having the ability to 'quietly' take them is pretty well impossible as well. So, these days, I say 'the more locks the better' in that thieves might just pass your bike, and more on to an easier theft? Adding the air tags or one of the other gps choices is a great idea, and I 'always' take my battery off, when on the rack/carrier, making using the e-bike difficult and expensive, because as you know, these batteries are very expensive! Thanks for the video Liz, as I know you've been through this before, and appreciate you explaining how you got this e-bike back!

Liz, just a suggestion when parking your truck with your bike on the back, try to back into the parking space not pull in. When you pull in it allows traffic passing in the rear to see your bike, the thieves crusing the parking lot can easily see. And yes I agree with the other reply the the Motel employ was in on the theft, convincing you that there was plenty of lighting and security cameras. The lighting just help the thieves...
