WOW! 300yrs later and I finally know the whole story! I always thought it was solely about the tattoo line, but it was actually a lot deeper than that. I remember being a teenager and thinking that LL won, but after hearing the back story, I have to give the W to Canibus! How was the young new guy more classy and more mature than the veteran? He showed respect, honored LL's request, was patient, got stabbed in the back and did what any young hungry rapper would have done after being lied to.

LL Cool J smashed canibus and canibus career flop his album didn't do what the label expected and they moved on. Canibus couldn't make hit records. Outside of his battle with LL he ain't known for nothing really Else industry wise. Canibus lost as a industry artist. Plus LL diss was more personal and truthful. I mean if they had met in person and fought I see LL stomping canibus out. Canibus would probably just take it too he looks up to LL too.

Honestly, Canibus won. He said he would flip LL with a .45 and he did with his own mic the moment he got Iron Mike to get on the mic. He basically went to get a bigger name, who still holds title in the ring. Having Mike speak on it was more than enough to rip the Def outta Def jam. I'm a fan of both but while LL got the star power, Canibus definitely knew he had to get someone with more and where he won at, was he knew everyone loves Iron Mike so he made LL's deepest fans love him more vicariously without them even knowing; even if they ain't hear his diss. Basically, he used a silent bomb and blew up his camp using the greatest champ in boxing. After all, he let be on the track where he dissed him and the album sold, that's cold. So, yeah he won without having to bite the hand that fed him hands down. Understand, it was Iron Mike who referenced def not Canibus think about that for a second.

First of all, great video and coverage of the rap beef and diss tracks between Cassidy and LL Cool J. Honestly, IMO, so far in my life, of all the rap beefs I've heard, this one takes the cake of being THE MOST CORNIEST RAP BEEF EVER!! My god, all this started because of some corny microphone tattoo on LL Cool J's arm??? Christ, if I was Cassidy, I'd just keep the conversation short, ask about the meanings of the tattoos, and do my thing, or just STFU, small talk anything other than that, and just do my rapping part and leave. Holy hell! I actually cringed that this was a rap beef. Is this real life?! Was that an actual thing?!🤣 From my understanding, tattoos originate from native tribes and tribalism of the early history of humanity. Tattoos are a symbol of a warrior's achievement of either killing and hunting an animal, or a killing of a rival warrior of another tribe, a part of the coming of age ceremony for young boys and girls, a part of animal worship and nature worship of nature based deities, and finally certain strange tattoo markings like those jagged lightning like markings are also based on visual hallucinations off of say psilocybin mushrooms or other types of psychedelics, which when that tribesmen is under the effects and sees the patterns onto their body, they then tattoo and try to imitate and embody what they saw upon their bodies. Fast forwards past ancient civilizations, empires and imperialism, the medieval dark ages, colonialism, and finally onto the 80's up to today, tattoos have gained far more additional meanings. From a person/group mostly at stage blue of spiral dynamics, tattoos which symbolize their nation and country are acceptable, or even national iconography, although some percentage of traditionalists and conservatives might actually have more negative than positive views of tattoos in general. Those who have more stage orange values may have reasons that are individualistic and personal to that person's ego, that the tattoo they gain is a sign of some achievement, or a lover's name, or some other reason that's individualistic to that person, and even the tattoo industry and business providers who's stage orange/green are giving these tattoos in exchange of currency and money, a transactional relationship of the customer and tattoo artist, which vastly differs from the stage purple tribalism of giving tattoos as a coming of age ceremony, or related to nature and animal worship. Finally in context to the video, in terms of the black community, of black culture, gang culture and some overlap of mafia and cartel cultures in this timeline of Hip Hop including gangs off of the streets, the ghettos and projects and that type of culture, which is mostly based around stage red in values, typical values range from dominance seeking, power struggles, power dynamics, boasting, show boating, conquest seeking and so on, the egotism is far more higher and emergent off of the stage purple tribalism, when a few members gain more self awareness and selfishness to desire their own tribes and their own groups to lead. At stage red motivations to get tattoos are to symbolize the number of murders(tears for example), number of thefts or robberies, maybe to symbolize a gang initiation, which some do echo back onto tribalism, and to symbolize gain of power to other members to show them you actually did some criminal acts and that you are worthy in that group. I do think that LL Cool J's tattoos are less stage red but more stage orange, to symbolize his achievements so far as a rapper unless there were a few tats that did symbolize a criminal act of some kind. IMO it's alright that he tattoos a microphone just to symbolize his skills as an Emcee, but it's just weird to me. My understanding of the following modals and history for the above: Spiral Dynamics stages of development(Don Beck), cognitive and moral development, personality types/traits(Myers Briggs and Big Five personality traits modal), 9 stages of ego development(Jane Loevinger), Architypes(Carl Jung), Integral Theory's other lines of development in personal life to societal domains(Ken Wilbur), ideological beliefs indoctrinated and gas lighted by social and cultural programming, family upbringing, information ecology(social media sites like Tik Tok, Twitter, KZbin, mainstream/alternative news sources, TV programs, radios, books, education system, communities et cetera...) and metanarratives that shape and influence our worldviews, and somewhat leveraged by companies to manufacture consent(Noam Chomsky) of the population and consumers.

@ToxicallyMasculinelol5 жыл бұрын
the battle extends to their entire lives once shit starts getting personal. they're not just trying to make music at that point or hurt each others' feelings, they're trying to destroy each other. so yeah it is a battle over careers, that's why there's a separate section for that. as for just the music, i don't think it's a battle of lyricism. hip hop is about more than just lyrics and flow. canibus is great in that sphere but his voice is still painful to listen to and his beats are always trash. it just doesn't sound good, it's hardly even musical. it's like pure rhythm, his voice is monotone and the beats are just not good instrumentals. at least LL's music sounds like music. the reason eminem is so legendary is because he has it ALL down, he doesn't neglect the melody and harmony. same with 2pac, he was one of the best lyricists of his time but his voice was also incredibly musical and most of his beats were just beautiful instrumentals in their own right. that's canibus' problem, his voice is not musical at all and his beats are soooo bad
@ToxicallyMasculinelol5 жыл бұрын
which is too bad because he can't really change his voice much, his vocal range and the quality of his voice are not really in his control. but he could at least meet up with some decent producers. i think he just has bad music taste, he actually thinks his beats sound good

I still revisit this beef on occasion and Canibus always takes my vote. I give LL props for coming strong on the Jack The Ripper track bc his style is not only aggressive but comes with punches too, way different from his other material. Unfortunately, everything before and after that track is the same boring style -it’s like LL is forcing ideas / storyline. Plus, he let his ego get the best of him and unnecessarily exaggerated the whole situation that was never there to begin with.

This tarnished LL’s legacy a bit, to be that emotional about an obvious fan admiring your tat and shouting you out on your own record to be seen as a diss? Clearly LL took advantage of a moment to get his “Street” credibility back as when he took shots at Pac no one cared. Canibus was in an odd predicament being that he was asked to feature on a record which ultimately became a diss record at him.. almost like it was planned by LL because why feature a rapper known for battle-bars? It was as if he needed a mark to make his mark which he sort of did with mixed results. Good vid!

I feel like the situation was wrong on both of their parts. Canibus had a verse about borrowing a microphone from LL Cool J and he felt offended when Canibus was being respective and playing the competitive role so he asked him to change the verse, and he promised. Canibus asked LL Cool J if he can verse, he said yes but he never changed. LL told Canibus that they’ll work together on a song and not to get hectic. A few moments later, he dropped 2nd round knockout. LL came back and got him. Rasta Imposter was the hardest diss song aimed at Canibus. It was very lyrical, which proves that LL didn’t lose his edge as some may say. This song kind of hurt Canibus’ career in my opinion. Either way, one of the best diss songs from 2 best rappers.

These guys have long since ended their beef and performed together. That’s great. LL is dope. Canibus is dope. Second Round K.O. I think- was better than LL’s comeback. But even if some think LL won, Canibus is a much more intricate lyricist than LL. LL is no doubt lyrical and versatile but Canibus is lyrical on a different level. You can tell he is well read and breathes, eats and sleeps lyricism. He reads a lot. That’s the way a lyricist should be. Guys like him were raised on LL and others’ lyricism of that era. He is where he should be in hip hop lyricism. Can’t take that from him. He is a better lyricist than LL and rightly so. If a teacher is good, his students will do even better than him Doesn’t take anything away from Uncle L. Shout out to Mr. Smith and Rip the Jacker. Peace

I don't think there were anyone that unironically thought LL did better in this regard, and that's a lot of different personalities from all walks of hiphop (from the underground Philly and NY scene to people in the Nordic countries).
