In 1968, Lloyd Reynolds was selected in the Men Who Teach series to make 20 half-hour TV programs on italic calligraphy and handwriting for the Oregon Education Television Service (later to became Oregon Public Broadcasting). He redid the series in color eight years later. Footage courtesy Oregon Public Broadcasting.

This guy has the kind of voice and style that could keep me engrossed for hours, and probably could teach me anything he cared to talk about.

You've been a great inspiration to me since the sixties! Wouldn't have studied -or taught Calligraphy if it weren't for you!

Thank you for posting these. I've read syalutsa's comment and Wow, I would have liked to be in his class. At 48 I desire to enter into the art world through letter writing. Lloyd mentions a book, can anyone tell us which book he is referring and / or which is a good book to begin with please. Kindest regares, Nina xx

I'm left-handed and trying to learn calligraphy for the first time. It's very difficult being a lefty. These videos are highly helpful. Where's the 2nd part?

How clever to start with the larger nib...then work down to fine. That's what I'm doing wrong (maybe because I don't want to "see" my mistakes?)

What pen did he use? It looks much different from the wedge nib I have. The big one in the beginning.

He is using a simple bamboo pen. He cut these himself, carefully setting the angle of the tip then sanding it to avoid any roughness as it moves over the page. You can also find and purchase a meal version that holds a bit more ink at arts supply stores. It's called a steel brush and comes in various sizes.
