You really went above and beyond . I was sceptical about the garage stating that the clutch was okay . How can they know without removing the gearbox ? The clutch plate might have been okay but as you have seen for yourself , the pressure pate and the throw out bearing were shot . And when you were that far that you removed the gearbox , the above and beyond was the welding of he fork and the rod . The O ring replacement can´t hurt and the little O ring to take away the slack was smart . The little bit of pitting on the reverse gear won´t be a problem , You did a splendid job by willing to understand how the box works and a perfectly compatible repair . Me ? I would have changed the clutch , corrected the kissing point and changed the oil but to be fair , with getting older my ambition to dive into the deep end like you just did has gradually disappeared . Perfect job Luis . Respect , really .

Completely fascinating, really. I started out thinking it was the same as a Citroen EGS gearbox, but the hydraulic accumulator is at the bottom on an EGS box. I sold my EGS because the gear position indicators (in mm) started to change and my Autel MD704 did not have the relearn clutch and gearbox feature. Consequence of the gear indicator moving is that the computer waits for the gear indicator to match before engaging the clutch, and eventually times out, engaging the clutch slowly, with considerable clutch slip on uphill gear changes. Clutch was taking a real beating.

I took the clutch travel sensor out to see if this is my issue with a P2915 (very ambiguous code with generic scanners). Same as you, my pin is far over to the left rathe than to the right. Which would indicate worn pressure plate fingers or a collapsed release bearing like you have here. Noted in the live data was the fact at rest, the clutch pressure plate position was sitting at 16mm in neutral, then when I went to change gear (all with engine off, ignition on) it would drop to 9mm then back to 16mm. It would select gears fine with engine off, no errors. But as soon as engine running it would grind and not be able to select. This video has been so helpful. I thought it was going to be the robot needs replacing. Thanks

A very well explained and informative video. An excellent source for seals (and bearings) is your local bearing factor. Most seals in automotive are a standard size to reduce costs. My experience with my local factor is their price is usually fair however they're items are usually of a better quality than a lot of the stuff I've had before from ebay.

Hi I’m a fiat specialist in stoke on Trent and I specialise in these Selespeed actuators The issues I see with what your showing is a certain seller on eBay offers a new push rod and crappy 3d printed boot Now I see a lot of the units he’s done come to me as the rod he’s making is not long enough or he’s not locking them correctly when sending them out when I make my extended rods I make them so the minimum the will retract is to the original fiat spec so they can never but under the value required

Hello there I have a 2011 fiat doblo van 5 speed semi auto box and the other day it flicked out of gear so I shut the engine of restarted it and it was fine.a couple days later I started it and it just wouldnt drive in any gear but it was selecting them but just grinding like a bitch! So I left it to be recovered.i am taken it to the garage tomorrow[friend owns/slash take advantage of his time lol] I will get him to plug it in and do every thing you have show in this great video! Then I will replace the clutch kit And the bearing and give it a once over for any other worn part that might needing replacement! Mine was always a bit clunky when I would put it in gear so I will be given that clutch rod actuator a once over if it’s out of calibration but if it’s not to bad out I will leve it or maybe do a little quick fix to get it a bit smoother! Wish me luck that this is just a clutch kit with bearing and oil and and easy clutch rod actuator quick adjustment! 🙏 I will let you know how I get on👍 This video was great thanks mate well done. Fiat should do a re call on all fiat vehicle's regardless of age and fix this common faults with either dual or standard gearboxes. Also should do a recall on the the crap hand brakes system.

i noticed in these hydraulic units when they build pressure too fast (about a second or less), there's a damaged accumulator, because there is no resistance from the accumulator internal diaphragm, so pressure can be not sufficent when we try to "stress" the unit changing gears rapidly.

@@LMAutoRepairs yeah, all adaptions have been done multiple times. I was thinking flywheel because the old clutch was in such a bad state but the mechanic said it looked OK. Also when you warm the clutch up the judder goes away, I would expect the judder to remain all the time if it was the flywheel?

Hello. I have a fiat punto evo 2011 duologic car. After driving about 1 km in cold weather, engine fault and transmission fault lights are on. Hill holder is disabled and there is no gear shift. I can continue my journey after stopping after about 10 minutes. gearbox was serviced and oil changed. Clutch pressure pad changed, robot maintenance was done, but the problem still persists. What do you think could be the problem? no one can find the solution

Thanks for the video, I myself have one alike. First it would jump to N sometimes while driving, but rare. And only on some drives. Tried to change, flush and bleed the oil. More smooth but didn’t fix it. And no faults. Then someday it decided to throw a light and code and wouldn’t even change. So took it apart, fault said sensor. Bought all three sensors new, rebuild kit. And getting at it now😅 Did you use the Selespeed oil or ATF? Cause it’s hard to find the original oil here, and post takes a long time😅

I bought seals from soviautoricambi, a site in Italy, around 200 euros. I own a lancia delta 2009 1.6 diesel with this type of gearbox , car and engine ok but that gearbox , repaired it 4 5 times and still having some errors and moody behaviour. Fiat dealer just replaces actuators, pumps and computers, might easily reach 2000 euros only for these parts. Anyway love my Lancia, a little diversity in an ocean of Golfs😁

Found on you tube a Brazilian mechanic who repairs fiat robots and found a Russian site very detailed about what goes wrong , same faults as in your video, and values for the stroke. Still my gearbox it's moody, maybe my mechanic has to check the fork which develops a very hard to see crack near a welding spot and the rod. Last repair I ve done was replacing some seals and a cracked hydraulic body. I'm not a mechanic and also not English native speaker, also I don't know how to translate all technical notions .

I brought it as a repo but however there's a old clutch in the boot and looks like there is a new one in it. I have not removed the gearbox yet to check. But my Symptons are all the gears don't change what's so ever with that error code. I did try that bit of plastic to pretend the clutch has been changed and it will get rid of the code however it still has no gear response???

Found this on a Russian site and he's an expert. When really cold temperatures set in (-20 C and below), and even during the warm season, the driver starts following the pattern: start the engine, get out of the car and then - there are options - have a smoke, shovel the snow, go round the car, thumping on all the four wheels, etc., with only one goal: to warm up the car. Anyway, the client violates the manufacturer’s recommendation: “You shouldn’t warm up the engine when the vehicle is parked…”, stated in the User’s Manual. Usually it only affects the engine lifespan and the overall fuel consumption. In cars equipped with an МТА, however, it can lead to the following: after starting the engine, the control unit of the МТА “prepares” for immediate breakaway and releases the clutch (which does make sense!), but this may not happen for another 10 minutes. Which means that for quite a long time piston 2 is under pressure, the leaks into chamber А are great (proportional to the time, besides there’s a factor of the loss of elasticity of the piston seals because the engine is still cold). The service fluid is accumulated in chamber А, due to its high viscosity and great volume it can’t all get drained through tube 3 and flows into chamber В of the rod position sensor case 5, there it reaches the level of breather С - an orifice with a diameter of 1.8 mm - and leaks outside. As a result, the MTA’s operative parts run out of service fluid - the vehicle ceases to respond to commands.

I have taken the box back off but everything seems to be okay bearing still attached and no damage to clutch the motor system was low on oil when trying obd and system fail so topped it to maximum with gear oil and tried agen and failed plus after failing it will only start in gear. Befor I did the job with no obd and it started in neutral so mechanically that tells me I did my job properly. I'm just so lost

Nice long video for the bank holiday weekend! It kind of shows that computers and hydralics/motors can't really replace a human when it comes to changing gear on a clutch based car. I would still go with a traditional manual rather than this attempt to automate the process and then there is the driving experience of a manual. I was kind of thinking at the beginning of the video it was a worn clutch setup. Admire your patience and diligence to get this fixed; alot of time and effort.

Hi all. New here.I have a Musa 2006 diesel automatic. Sometimes when driving in auto it gives me an error"gearbox failed" for 2 sec on the screen and then disappear. The car moves and work's normal even during this message pop up. This error happens once a day or more days. Does anybody know something? Thanks in advance.

After some days watching the problem i see that message pops up when car is in 2nd gear and wont go to 3d until message disappear. Then it works fine. Same when car is in 2nd and going to 1st.

I think it's a clutch or something that move's the gear stick if it's struggling to change gears especially at a stop how could the outher garage lie and say you don't need a clutch it reminds me of when I forgot to engage the clutch fully before driving in the field

I have a fiat doblo same similar fault but what i noticed is that it was chattering noise when softly on and off the throttle at 80km or so. Then the van faulted to Neutral and check Transmission light engine light. It started and drove home with no problems until it cut out changing down gear. Now it wont select any gear just natural

The amount of gearboxes people must have went through when those automatics roamed the earth but how and why would people choose to drive with a gearbox sounding like that is crazy how much are those gearbox it doesn't look like that car was well looked after

This gear box tech is actually the same as the original Ferrari f1 technology back in the 70’s made for them by magnetti Merelli Alfa Romeo called it selespeed fiat dulogic I believe even renult used it too In Alfa Romeos they gave you paddles to change it on the steering wheel
