2024 Introduction to Biophysical Techniques
The LMB Biophysics Facility houses a wide range of state-of-the-art and in-house built instruments that enable the molecular characterisation of macromolecular size, shape, mass, stability, binding affinity, dynamics and interaction kinetics.
The facility is primarily intended for hands-on research by students, postdocs, and group leaders, who prepare samples and make measurements. Biophysics supports users in advice on experimental techniques and results, training and in collaborative research.
In this video, Stephen explains how different biosensors technologies can be used to understand the binding affinity and kinetics of biomolecular interactions. He covers the basis of the different detection methods, immobilisation strategies, experiment set-ups and how data can be analysed. Several applications of each technique are shown.
The Biophysics Facility is headed by Stephen McLaughlin, supported by Chris Johnson and Chris Batters.
