I read the manga about like 50+ times and watched this scene with many reactors more than 20+ times, but I never shed a tear on the Karupika's nen blade secret reveal scene before, until I watched this with you. In a story full of characters who make sure to act in as purely a logical manner as possible, and especially a character like Kurapika who does so more often than others, it's so heartwarming to have a moment where he purposefully chooses to act in an illogical way in order to thank his friends.

Kurapika is logical? someone who choose revenge as a goal is logical? Kurapika is emotional. He is a strategist but he also has immense impulsiveness and recklessness. He is not logical at all, he is extremely intelligent and knows how to use it to accomplish his objectives, but he's also organic in the way he achieve them. He has goals but the ways he goes about them always depends on how he feels too, intuition and all, not just intellect. Kurapika is someone indestructible and flawless in the world of HxH where everyone is corrupted ethically. his only flaws is wanting revenge but we already side with him on that. He is in my opinion an emotional character, very noble and self destructive and not at all logical. He is pragmatic when he needs to but that is to serve his emotions and desires. He is rational on decision makings in split seconds but that also is for the benefit of his emotions. My point is he uses his intelligence to assist his desires. He's anything but logical. I mean I guess we could say that he follows his own logics, like any character in HxH.

The beginning scene is actually so interesting on rewatch. The questions chrollo askes are not with the intent to get an answer. Its to look what he "will" answer To understand what's happening . The first questions were about why he can't answer. Based on hisoka's answer "it's not that I will but i can't" he quickly understands he's being forced. Then he asks about the troop and hisoka gives an direct answer. Now he knows he can answer some questions. But then he askes 3 questions back to back regarding the chain user and hisoka refuses to answer all 3. Meaning that he can't reveal any information about the chain user

I mean I definitely appreciate it, based on the other comments I definitely don't find it as crazy as most people though XD Like for me it seemed like the logical thought train to explore, so the fact Hisoka was so impressed about Chrollo figuring out what his new poem meant seemed ridiculous, like none of the eleven there could think of that or test it's limits. Upon every rewatch it feels to me like Hisoka is treating the troupe like none of them can implement critical thinking (even though we know some of them are smart, this scene - again, just to me - feels like the troupe lost their brains for a second) T-T

From the troupes perspective the poem said he betrayed them and there's nothing insinuating he was forced (the sword of law etc could only he figured out with the questions chrollo asked) and he was refusing to explain himself and said he would fight to defend himself. Its a normal reaction for anybody to immediatly antagonize him. I mean, that's why he was so impressed, its not something obvious. Chrollo just showcases his superior deductive skills. The show doesn't undermine the troupes intelligence, I mean.. most didn't even say anything and just observed the situation. The show just shows how intelligent chrollo is

@@kc_h7h I mean it might be different in Japanese, the reason it feels so odd to me that Nobunaga got mad in the first place (well maybe not him since he's a hothead, but everyone else not second guessing), was the English wording. It said " *use* sword of law upon you" and " *take* the secrets with him" that wording makes it pretty obvious it was not a consensual transaction. I saw a funny meme while trying to find the exact quote that had Nobunaga on the abnormally dumb side of the IQ scale saying "We should kill Hisoka" then Chrollo right on the average in the middle explaining the poem, and way on the abnormally high side "we should kill Hisoka" again

I say this often, but I love how smart people in this show aren't omniscient gods. Chrollo is one of the smartest guys in the whole show, he sure as hell isn't less smart than Hisoka. But he gets fooled completely anyway. Hisoka changed the prophecy, but none of the spiders suspect it because the new prophecy he made presents Hisoka in such a poor light that they would never expect him to have created it. While if Hisoka had just created a nice prophecy that just said "don't leave York New", even if they don't know the details of how texture surprise work, Chrollo in particular might have gotten suspicious of the fact that it says the opposite of everyone else's prophecies. And that's something that happen a lot in this show: Incredibly smart people coming to the completely wrong conclusion because they're missing critical information, or actually coming to the correct conclusion but being tricked anyway... I like that. It's a much better representation of what intelligence actually is when even the brainy super-analytical bad guy can get tricked if he lacks some context or intel. Literally every arc we have (sometimes huge, arc defining) moments that completely rely on a genius misunderstanding a situation. And sometimes, people who aren't as smart as them have stroke of geniuses. That's why even though Killua is as strong (or stronger at this point of the story) as Gon and smarter than him in most ways, they can still stand as equal. Very often Gon is the one to size up a situation or understand something first (it happens a lot in the next arc, Greed Island).

​@@Arkayjiya I agree it's one of the best parts of the whole manga. Being smart and critical is important but many situations can only be won by thinking in a simple manner, or having more heart. My favorite example is at the end of this arc, when the whole Troupe almost falls apart because they believe some members are being manipulated, when the situation is as simple as Paku wanting to save the boss, then Franklin calms down everyone by saying "hey, if some members are being manipulated we can kill them", a purely rational solution. They also believe they are being watched and cannot try to make a move, even though Melody's hearing isn't THAT good and they could perfectly try something But when Paku comes back, she points her gun at all of them, and instead of looking at the situation critically again, Nobunaga says "let's have some faith, it's Paku" and let themselves get shot, which isn't "rational" at all but it's the correct choice

There was no guarantee that Paku wasn't being manipulated and that the bullet could have killed them all, but they still took the bullet for her. And only Nobunaga and Kortopi knew about the memory bomb ability. Paku saved them all from the infighting by sacrificing herself.

He didn't know. He just made that shit up and predicted something very close. It's probably from his experience as a fighter, that such conditional ability that can kill you like a sword of law exists and so he used it.

I put two and two together, and it looks like Shalnark's prophecy fits perfectly, or at the very least, that's how I see it. I could be very wrong since I've only seen that particular manga panel. If what happened in that panel wasn't what this prophecy foretold, what could it be? Are there any specific events that the prophecy mentioned? Or perhaps the Phantom Troupe was just delaying the inevitable?

this episode shows a script failure, the boss could order Pakunada to check Hisoka's memories and learn all the truth that Hisoka actually knows leaving all that dialogue utterly pointless (and this wouldnt kill hisoka even if he had a sword pointed to his heart) but Togashi chose to overlook this edit: at the very least it could have been explained with no pakunoda check, like she could say ''i can check his memories'' (because she interfered before) and then chrollo could explain the reason why not.

Chrollo clearly assumed that breaking the sword of law could be fatal to Hisoka. And him ordering Pakunoda to check Hisoka would make Hisoka to fight back which Chrollo was trying to avoid in the first place. He literally teleported Nobunaga away from Hisoka just a scene ago.

That's conjecture. It could count as him giving away the secrets. He could refuse being searched by her on those grounds. Kurapika had to amend the rules of his ability because he wasn't sure of using his own chains on himself would count as attacking himself thus breaking the contract of only attacking troupe members. There's some ambiguity to how nen works in universe even among hunters and nen users. A better example would be in chimera ant arc where knuckle puts Apr on Pouf while hidden by god's accomplice but the king, Pouf and Youpi see it anyway. It could've been a distance thing (Apr stops counting when it's a certain distance away from knuckle + Apr appeared on his real body not the clone. Maybe god's accomplice has a similar distance restriction) but still. It wasn't explained why they could see it whereas the narrator specifically explained that they tried to see if they could make Apr invisible with god's accomplice.

I thought about that last episode but realized that, depending on the wording of the condition, then allowing someone else to check his memories may count as intentionally revealing that which was forbidden. Even if Chrollo didn't believe that, or if he simply assumed that wasn't the case, Hisoka wouldn't have allowed it to happen, since it would threaten his life, and he was already prepared to fight anyways.

The way you word your thoughts or feelings doesn't necessarily portray your true intensions or state of mind. Personally, I would call Gon's honesty "blunt" or very direct more then psychotic because he *really* felt sorry for losing control, just like he apologised to the Zoldyck's gatekeeper for thinking selfishly and almost causing him needless trouble.
