It's really regretful to see so many people in this draft league experiencing hardships in their lives - you Uzi, your friend, Mefesto, Joey and Elly are those that I know about, if there are more then that's some terribly bad luck. Wish you all the best!

people go through a lot of hardship in life. if not them directly experiencing it, it will be a friend or a family member, or maybe a co-worker.

I questioned that Destiny Bond play instead of the third layer and was instantly humbled. Great move man.

no need to question it, if it "fails", you can simply put spikes on the next turn, even if they switch into something faster, the destiny bond is still active if they strike before the spikes

Well played, Uzi! This league honestly looks like yours to win, you’re playing so well and your draft is insane - you got this! I really hope your friend is able to get the treatment he needs, it truly is one of the worst feelings to know there’s a way to be treated, but one just doesn’t have the money to go about it; society is extremely cruel in that regard. I really do wish the best for you all.

I wish I could donate, but I’ll pray for your friend. That he can get this surgery. The game was great. You had the entire back half planned out perfectly, and without inaccurate moves to screw you over. Matthew being classic Matthew cracked me up.

Well played, Uzi! Like many, I got into your channel via Joey, but I'm rooting for you to go all the way. On the one hand, I am SO sorry to hear about your friend and I'm also very angry that the price of a lifesaving surgery is so prohibitive... but on the other hand, the lengths to which you're going to save his life speak incredibly well of your character. I donated some money to the campaign and I'm looking forward to seeing you take home the championship!

Wishing the best for you and Sazid. No words can match the severity of the situation. How awful that an insane amount of money is necessary to justify a life, and I really hope that the money can help somehow even if the target isn't reached.

Unfortunately I'm a bit broke atm as I just chenged jobs and am trying to move (too expensive to live where I am now) and need to save for that, but contributed what I can even if it's just a little, I wish this could have happened at a time when I could do more. Really wishing the best for your friend and that the doctors do the best quality work they can if/when the surgery happens, I'll definitely keep him and the situation in my prayers. Good luck with the rest of the league and hopefully you can continue to play clean games even through these tough times, we're rooting for you!

Spikes either should be 1 layer or 3 generally. second layer only adds ~4% damage and the third adds another ~8% "Spikes can now be set up to three times, each increasing the damage done to the opponent upon switching in. One layer of Spikes will damage the opponent Pokémon by 1/8 (12.5%) of its maximum HP, two layers will deal 1/6 (16.67%), and three layers will deal 1/4 (25%)." - bulbapedia

Generally and statistically over the course of a thousand battles, you'd probably prefer setting 1 or 3 layers. But would you have played the opening turns differently than 2 layer into D-bond, given the sequence of moves and outcomes?

@ufailowell Fair point. However, consider that my statement was made because of the mocks I had and the information I acquired from it. For instance, these 2 spikes were what ensured Ogerpon's demise upon the third entry. They're what put Diancie in range. Same with Swampert in a way. My point was that in said mocks, the calcs more or less started leaning towards my side once these two were set up. What you said was current under the context of a general Pokémon game? Absolutely correct. But in draft league? It becomes a case of what it is under the specific matchup. In this case? 2 spikes were what was needed. Hope this explains!

Damn, I’m sorry to hear about your friend, Uzi 😓. I hope he’s able to get the money he needs or something else works out in his favor. I suffered a heavy loss around a year ago and I hope you don’t have to go through that. Wishing y’all the best 💗 As for the match, g fucking g. Most people may go for the third spikes that turn but you navigated the risk vs reward and made a play that really gave you a lot of early momentum. There was some hax, but this was a much cleaner game than last week and I’m glad you get to keep going on to semis. GL next week and again, I hope all works out for you and your friend!
