I’m considering Chester’s with leather sole for work in the summer. I have some Rivingtons but the crepe sole is wearing out quick. I’ve got some mahogany brogues (badminton), but I just think tan is a great summer colour.

I don't have the Loake Chester (yet) but I do have a pair of Loake Burfords on the same last and I think the shape of these shoes is a little bit smarter than the likes of Barker or even Trickers. The other aforementioned brands often have quite a distinct bump shape whereas Loakes on this last seem more chiselled
@emilthomasgАй бұрын
How do these compare to Trickers or C&J quality wise ?
@theshoemandoncasterАй бұрын
Everything for a reason Sir. Whilst Loake and Barker represent incredible value for money, some of their products are made wholly overseas, and some part made overseas. Loake still have a clicking and closing room, so their premium collection is made in England still.......I am told. Tricker's and C&J, both brands we work with are kind of next level in terms of quality. This though probably in the material quality mostly, to include the leather Uppers, Linings, Footbeds etc. Tricker's and C&J are made start to finish in England and again, if well cared for and maintained, could be 'shoes for life', so again represent excellent value for money if you think long term. All of the brands we work with, might be considered much more of an investment than a one off quick purchase.

Great video - anyone have any sizing advice on the Loake Chester? I'm a 9 on the capital last but apparently the 024 is larger to allow for a thick sock. I'll be wearing a thin/medium sock so should I size down? Thanks in advance!
@theshoemandoncaster11 ай бұрын
Hi Adam, thank you for your question. First and regardless, the one way to be sure how well a shoe fits or not, is to try them on. No amount of information or advice can guarantee a perfect fit but I am always happy to try :-) Working with thousands of customers over the years, and considering all of the 'averages' I don't usually find customers needing to change sizes between the Capital Last and 024 Last. Some may find the 024 slightly more generous, but not enough to be able to change size. Hope this helps and if you require more help or information, please feel free to call me in store on 01302 360985 and I will be more than happy to help with a potential purchase of the Chester :-)

Are you sure that’s the Bailey? I look at the Bailey on their website and the sole isn’t that thick and that back tab isn’t there. What am I missing? This video is only 5 months old. Did they change the design? Help, help!! I want that shoe in the video.
@theshoemandoncaster Жыл бұрын
Hello Opie, than you for your comment. They are the Bailey for sure. For a very short time, Barker produced the 'Bailey 2' which didn't have the little pull tab on the top of the heel counter. There is now only the one version (Bailey) and it is made without the Pull Tab. The Sole thicknesses are the same though. Hope this helps :-)

Hey guys. I'm wondering what the Indian made Loake's are like for quality? I know they're probably not going to be as good as the English made ones but they seem to offer a lot for the entry level money. Any advice would be appreciated.

@@carlmoulton5719 99% + of the general public don't care about quality shoes. Of the people I know that do care about quality shoes will tell you that the Indian made Loakes are not of a high quality.
@wayneelliott7011 Жыл бұрын
@rapidswgoh3632 The problem with the Indian made Loakes is they use a lower quality leather mostly corrected grain which will crease and even crack compared to a better quality Calf leather. If you are only using the shoes for an occasional wear then sure they will be better than purchasing a cheap cemented shoe. If you are going to be wearing a dress shoe a number of times a week, then my advice is to spend a bit more on a Goodyear welted Calf leather shoe. A Loake 1880 or Barker Duxford Oxford will be money well spent and you will get many more wears and a better looking shoe. I have heard there also some affordable ok quality shoes from Portugal & Spain, do a search. If you are wearing regularly you will need a few pair of shoes as they need to be rotated daily. Use shoe trees & clean & polish regularly and they will last years. Your cost per wear will be cheaper over time than a lesser quality shoe.

Am I correct in assuming that Loake are now using compressed cardboard for the heel stacks in their shoes ?
@theshoemandoncasterКүн бұрын
I believe Ian it is 'Leather Board', which is made up of offcuts of leather, ground to a fine dust and mixed with a solution. This is then rolled into sheets, and cut in the same way that leather soles and heels are. I am actually planning a factory visit sometime early in the New Year, so I will be sure to check and confirm then :-) In the meantime.....don't believe all you might hear or see, from someone with an axe to grind, for having their account with Loake closed ;-)

Loake 1880 use compressed cardboard heel stack Barker Bailey , pure leather heelstacks
@markfletcher49848 ай бұрын
I'm thinking you may have been mis-informed N91.........Some models made by Loake and Barker actually use 'Leather Board' in Heel Stacks and Mid-Soles. Leather Board, is made up from waste leather cuttings that are ground, and mixed with a resin, which is then rolled into sheets, and cut for mid-soles and heel stacks. You are correct though, that the Heel Stack on the Barker model Bailey, is cut from the same leather they use for leather soles. That said.....everything made to a specification for a price, there is a reasonable gap now between the Loake Chester, and the higher priced Barker Bailey. There is a £66 (rrp) difference between the Chester and the Bailey now. Considering the actual finish of the shoes is virtually same or very similar, the difference in justification of price has to be found somewhere, and that is usually in the materials, in quality of the Upper, Lining, Insole, Mid-soles and Heel Stacks.
@byN917 ай бұрын
@@markfletcher4984thanks ,appreciate your clarification. Actually, I was wondering what is the insole made of. Yes, there are tiers of quality (reflected on price) with Barkers, just as loake
