I'm delighted that Tubbs and Edward found their way "Inside No 9" and that they were happily reunited in the follow up live show. "Edward, Can You Hear Me?" is both entertaining & touching. This was an excellent tribute to the most lovable serial killers on screen. (I vote for The Dentons next.)

Won't lie, I was delighted to see Tubbs and Edward together again on the live DVD (I couldn't believe the series left Tubbs trapped in the wife mine and just ended there). It's weird how attached you get to these characters, isn't it?
@di77704 жыл бұрын
What I love about LofG is, anyone watching this video without seeing the show will think it's more disturbing and horrific than it is. I think it's Reece and Steve's (and Mark in the other sketches) performances which help to present these scenes as really funny. It's a good balance of Comedy, Surrealism and Horror. I look forward to the future videos in this series, especially the ones for Pauline and the Job Seekers, Benjamin, Harvey and Val and the plasticwork trio.
@WeeLin4 жыл бұрын
I agree, you'd definitely get the wrong impression of the show from how it looks on paper (or how it sounds in this video). "My favourite characters are a pair of inbred serial killers" does sound pretty weird! Much as I tried to capture the emotional moments these characters give us, that's nothing compared to the gents and what their acting skills can accomplish. The series 2 finale and that last dance in the fire always get me, and it's all down to the nuance of their performances. Not many actors could take these crazy characters and make them seem so human.

Love your videos, League was one of those watershed programmes that totally changed my perception of what a comedy show could be, and I'm always happy to find more people who appreciate it. Benjamin is the first character we meet in episode 1 and the last to appear onscreen in the anniversary specials, after all.

That's one of the many reasons I picked the Dentons as an option - they were the backbone for most of the TV series (minus series 3), as well as the radio show. One thing that could be used as evidence that Tubbs and Edward are immortal is that by the time of the anniversary specials, Edward would be over 100 years old. I know the timeline and ages aren’t always precise (Pauline in series 3) but I like to think it is a way to show they’re immortal due to how energetic he is. Also not exactly related but I love how we learn of the squatters in flat 9 when on screen, the characters being told are on the moors outside the local shop. Yep, I'm Scottish, but sadly I haven't been able to get back there since the pandemic. And yes, these storylines are surprisingly complicated for such a weird comedy show. The Christmas special is interesting - it's more like a horror anthology series than a festive special, so it works quite well at Hallowe'en too. I feel like I've encountered a few "Paulines" myself in past jobs - she was actually based on a real person, which will come up in the next video. A few folk have said Les McQueen now, so I might add him to the list as well. Thank you, fellow Scot!

@@WeeLin Ah ok, thanks. I'll maybe watch the DVD along with re-watching the Psychoville Halloween Special and Dead Line in late October then!. Sorry to hear you've encountered some Paulines - women can be so bitchy, at work or otherwise(!) (I try and stay out of things (not as easy as it should be)). Yeah I heard the character (Pauline) was based on people Reece came across while signing on I believe(?). I hope your keeping safe etc and your welcome :)

I wonder if Tubbs' full name of Tulip is taken from Blue Tulip Rose Reid. TLOG are known fans of her documentary.

I wouldn't be surprised - they do love their references and in-jokes. I also like that she's really named after a pretty flower, but her husband/brother just calls her "Tubbs". Just another way for Edward to keep putting her down.

Great stuff. Out of curiosity, do you prefer the show with or without laughtrack?
@WeeLin4 жыл бұрын
That's a really good question. Generally, I prefer comedy without the laugh track. However, the League started as a live show, and when they were starting out for TV it probably helped doing some of the sketches in front of a live audience, so they could get that feedback. Some of the reactions, especially in scenes like "Nude Day" at the Dentons, were pretty good to hear, and maybe helped add a little something! Personally, the League didn't need a laugh track for me to enjoy it, but I imagine it helped other people get into the show a bit easier - it is pretty weird, and there's often that feeling of "should I really be laughing at this?"
@FTZPLTC4 жыл бұрын
@@WeeLin - Interesting, hadn't really thought of that. I remember it being a bit jarring when the third series started; but then after Psychoville and Inside no 9, going *back* to a laughtrack seems jarring.

I wondered what others would consider the darkest scene or character. For me , it would be the polo mint crunching Doctor scene. And a large Hawaiian pizza!. Still funny though, despite it's darkness.
@WeeLin4 жыл бұрын
You know, I think I might be the only person who actually cracked up when the doctor started crunching on a polo mint, and I've still no idea why! For me, I think one of the darkest characters is Pop. Most of the really foul characters have some redeeming quality, but not him. Wouldn't go near him for all the Maverick bars in the world!
