My dad was born in kirkton in 1948.

The Architects who designed the old houses could not conceive that working people could only afford to heat one room. People breathing in unheated bedrooms will eventually lead to damp. When I Lived in Coniston Tce we had ice on the INSIDE of our bedroom windows.

Glad to say standards of insulation are now much higher. Fuel poverty still a problem, though.

So did most people. I was brought up in council accommodation in Carnoustie and it was the same. Coal fire in living room and nothing else. House was riddled with damp. Got central heating when we moved in 1980 and it was heaven!
