Use a UV coated, stranded wire made for burial grade. Usually 14 gauge works best but you and use 16 GA also.

@@gtinteractivedesign Thanks. It seems like Petsafe provides 20 gauge wire. Is that not good to use?

Hi, 20 is too small. When I install a petsafe fence kit, I through out the wire it comes with and use something better. It breaks easily and will not hold up long term. Use at least 14 g.

Thank you for the idea of testing the surge protector. Unfortunately, your camera shot was above what you were doing...so when you said "I hope you could see this", I can't. I am in a wire problem hell right now, but thank you for the surge protector idea. Its one I hadn't come up with on my own.
