Boris Johnson was urged by scientists to take a Swedish-style approach to the pandemic rather than more lockdown, an Oxford University epidemiologist has told the Covid Inquiry.
Professor Sunetra Gupta has suggested that if the former prime minister listened to the view of a Swedish expert then lockdowns could be avoided by implementing less restrictive rules.
TalkTV’s Kevin O’Sullivan and Alex Phillps are joined by political and social commentator James Melville to discuss the latest evidence being given to the Covid inquiry.

Literally nobody under the age of 40 died and very very few under 60, not enough to even lock a pub down let alone a whole country. More people have died since on waiting lists. Lockdowns do not work period.

@straightouttacornwall Yeah, but nobody was going to the pub anyway, even before the lockdowns started. In fact landlords and restaurateurs were begging the government to shut down in the hope they could claim off their insurance. My local had just had a complete refurbishment and was enjoying a surge of popularity when COVID came and then the place was empty. It's all very well saying "nobody understands the age of 40 died". Firstly its not exactly true and secondly you have a lot of younger people looking after elderly people and the sick that simply couldn't risk spreading the disease to their loved ones for fear of the family branding them as " the one that killed granny".

The death toll would have gone through the roof Sweden is sparsely populated the elderly could basically debunk to their Cabins, it also has a well maintained health system and most Swede's acted by adopting a level of social distancing depending on age and circumstances. Were not as bad as New York but you can see the mortality rate in the early days before restrictions as to what would have happened.

The first confirmed deaths in the UK occurred in March 2020, Prince Charles tested positive in March 2020.
